(Darwinian natural selection here? Not a chance. Lamarkian evolution? Conceivably, at least in part. Some kind of 'intelligence' involved? Certainly.)

'The woodpecker’s tongue is one of nature’s most astonishing adaptations. Far longer than its beak, the tongue extends back into the skull, wrapping around it—sometimes even looping over the top and around the eye socket. This isn't just to catch insects buried deep within tree bark; it's also a vital piece of shock-absorbing anatomy. As the bird slams its beak into wood at speeds of up to 20 times per second, the tongue’s unique path acts like a biological seatbelt, distributing impact forces and helping to protect the brain from trauma. This remarkable design, supported by a specialized structure called the hyoid apparatus, allows the woodpecker to perform its relentless pecking without suffering concussions—a feat no human could match unprotected.'

Another example, I'd strongly argue, of a 'self-defense' survival mechanism that could not have evolved through 'natural selection'.

The thynnine male wasp is the sole pollinator of.... Drakaea livida below.

Now here is the female thynnine wasp, pictured next to her mimic.

The female cannot fly, she climbs to the top of stalks to be accessible to passing males who would be attracted by the pheromones she releases. The problem is the nearby flower releases very similar pheromones confusing her potential lovers.

The flower flips over and pushes the back of the wasp onto the stamen where the pollen is deposited.

The Fibonacci sequence is really important too I think. It demonstrates how basic recursive rules can generate complexity, efficiency, and beauty in the real world.

Genetic codes are another hint at intelligent design. Codes as far as I know do not occur naturally

The other night, I watched thunderstorms building in the distance, swirling all around me in a 360-degree circle. I was at the center, but there was no rain, and the distant thunder was barely audible. Still, the sheer power and beauty of those storms were awe-inspiring. It made me realize that nothing about this that was accidental; it’s all by design.

It made me think back to a tiny, remote island in the Philippines, where I once stayed to go scuba diving. The sky was so dark that the Milky Way was crystal clear and memerizing, with shooting stars streaking across the sky every few seconds. We were diving among some of the most stunning marine life I’ve ever seen. These creatures were more beautiful than they needed to be, their beauty wasn’t designed just for survival; it seemed purposeful. All of this points to one thing: the incredible complexity and beauty of our planet and universe suggest something beyond random chance. It’s impossible not to feel awe and understand that there is so much more if we take the time to think about our world and the universe.

This video titled "Three Scientists on the Origins of Everything" is an episode of Uncommon Knowledge hosted by Peter Robinson, featuring mathematician John Lennox, philosopher of science Stephen Meyer, and chemist James Tour. If you have the time, this is a wonderful discussion that makes you think about things that we rarely have time to consider, but are exceptionally important. Time investment 60 minutes

Here's an AI overview to get you started:
Central question: Does modern science support a universe arising through undirected natural processes, or does it suggest intelligent design?
    Three Paragraph Summary

The discussion centers on whether recent discoveries in cosmology, physics, chemistry, and biology are more consistent with a purely materialistic universe or with the existence of an intelligent creator. Stephen Meyer, John Lennox, and James Tour argue that three developments—the Big Bang, the apparent fine-tuning of the universe's physical constants, and the information-rich nature of DNA and living cells—collectively point toward intelligent design rather than undirected natural processes. They contend that the universe had a finite beginning, that the laws and constants of physics appear extraordinarily precise for life to exist, and that the origin of biological information remains unexplained by current origin-of-life research.

In discussing the origin of life, James Tour argues that decades of research since the Miller–Urey experiment have not brought scientists close to producing even the simplest living cell. The panel emphasizes that modern biology has revealed far greater cellular complexity than scientists appreciated in Darwin's era, especially the digital information encoded in DNA. Meyer and Lennox argue that information, codes, and language are consistently associated with intelligent minds, and therefore they infer that the best explanation for life's information content is an intelligent designer. They also distinguish between empirical laboratory science and historical sciences, arguing that inference to intelligent causation is legitimate when investigating past events such as the origin of life.

The conversation concludes by moving from science into philosophy and theology. The speakers argue that science can point toward a creator but not, by itself, establish the personal attributes of God. Lennox maintains that questions about God's character come from revelation rather than science alone. All three reject philosophical materialism as an adequate worldview, asserting that recent scientific discoveries fit better with theism than with the view that life and the universe arose solely through unguided physical processes.

    Main points

    Big Bang
    • The panel argues that evidence for an expanding universe implies a finite beginning.
    • They contend that a beginning raises the philosophical question of what caused matter, space, time, and energy to exist.
    Fine-tuning
    • Physical constants (gravity, cosmological constant, electromagnetic force, etc.) are described as existing within narrow ranges compatible with life.
    • The speakers argue this fine-tuning is better explained by design than by chance.
    Origin of life
    • They argue the Miller–Urey experiment demonstrated only limited amino acid production, not the creation of life.
    • Tour repeatedly states that scientists remain far from explaining how living cells originated.
    • He argues that increasing knowledge of cellular complexity has made the problem more difficult rather than easier.
    DNA and biological information
    • DNA is described as a digital information storage system.
    • The panel argues that information, codes, and languages are known to originate from intelligent minds.
    • Therefore, they infer that biological information points to an intelligent cause.
    Time as an explanation
    • The speakers reject the idea that billions of years alone solve the origin-of-life problem.
    • Tour argues many biological molecules degrade over time, making time an obstacle rather than a solution.
    Historical science vs. experimental science
    • Meyer distinguishes between:
    • Experimental science, which studies present-day natural processes.
    • Historical science, which infers past causes from present evidence.
    • He argues intelligent design belongs in the second category.
    Critique of materialism
    • The panel contends that materialism cannot adequately explain:
    • The beginning of the universe.
    • Fine-tuning.
    • Biological information.
    • Lennox argues that information itself is not reducible to matter.
    Beauty in nature
    • Meyer introduces the idea of "gratuitous beauty," arguing that many beautiful biological features exceed what survival alone would require.
    • He suggests this is consistent with an artistic creator.
    Science and faith
    • The speakers maintain that science can indicate an intelligent creator but cannot determine God's personal nature.
    • Lennox argues that theology and revelation address those additional questions.
    Response to critics
    • The panel claims critics often dismiss intelligent design philosophically rather than engaging its scientific arguments.
    • They argue that debates over intelligent design are ultimately disagreements about competing worldviews.
    Context

This summary reflects the arguments presented by the interview participants. Many of their conclusions—particularly the inference from fine-tuning or biological information to intelligent design and critiques of evolutionary and origin-of-life research—are subjects of ongoing debate. While the Big Bang and fine-tuning are widely studied scientific topics, the claim that they constitute scientific evidence for an intelligent designer is not the consensus position within mainstream biology, chemistry, or cosmology.
