    🚨 Deep M6.1 Earthquake Hits Afghanistan 🚨
    Saturday, 27 June 2026
A strong magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan today, near Jurm in Badakhshan Province.

The key detail is the depth, around 199 to 201 km below the surface.

That depth may reduce the worst surface damage, but it also means shaking can travel across a wide area, with reports from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kashmir and northern India.

Afghanistan remains vulnerable because of remote mountain communities, weaker buildings and landslide risk.

This adds to an already busy week for large earthquakes around the world.
