🚨 Shallow M5.8 Earthquake Strikes Western Iceland 🚨

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake has hit western Iceland around 15 km northwest of Akranes, with the quake recorded at a shallow depth of around 5 km. That shallow depth is the worrying part, as it can make shaking feel much sharper close to the epicentre. The quake struck near Iceland’s populated west coast, with the wider Reykjavík region further south, and aftershocks are possible.

The Supreme Court Puts the EPA Between Patients and the Jury

Much of the reaction to the Supreme Court’s recent Roundup decision has focused on politics. Many supporters of the Make America Healthy Again movement viewed the decision as a profound betrayal. During the campaign, Donald Trump promised to clean up America’s food supply, while Robert F. Kennedy Jr. built much of his public career questioning the safety of glyphosate and other agricultural chemicals. Then, in one of the administration’s first major Supreme Court cases involving pesticide regulation, the federal government supported Bayer’s legal position. To many, that appeared to be the end of the conversation.
I think it is actually the beginning.
The more I have studied the Court’s opinion, the Solicitor General’s brief, and the broader legal framework, the less I believe this case is really about glyphosate. Nor is it simply about Bayer. It raises a much larger question, one that should concern conservatives, libertarians, environmentalists, trial lawyers, physicians, and anyone who cares about the relationship between science and government.
Who decides when science has changed?
That may sound like an odd question. After all, don’t scientists answer scientific questions?
Not entirely.
Science produces evidence. Regulators decide whether that evidence justifies changing policy. Courts decide how the law applies. Juries determine disputed facts. For most of American history, those institutions operated as overlapping checks on one another. None possessed complete authority over the others, and that was largely by design.
The Roundup decision may have shifted that balance in ways that extend far beyond one herbicide.
The legal issue before the Supreme Court was not whether glyphosate causes cancer. The justices did not weigh competing epidemiological studies or review animal experiments. They did not decide whether the International Agency for Research on Cancer or the EPA had the better scientific argument.
Instead, the Court answered a much narrower legal question: when EPA approves a pesticide label under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, can state courts later conclude that the manufacturer should have included stronger warnings?

A New York City landlord has gone viral for dragging Marxist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani after he announced a massive rent freeze last week.

As The New York Times reported, a New York City panel voted on Thursday to freeze rents for nearly one million rent-stabilized apartments. This fulfilled one of Mamdani’s prominent campaign promises.

The Rent Guidelines Board approved the freeze on both one- and two-year leases in a 7-to-1 vote. Increases were thus paused on more than 40% of all apartments across the five boroughs.

The Times revealed that this includes high-rise luxury apartments, deeply affordable subsidized units, and 150-year-old walk-ups.

Mamdani posted a video on X bragging after the Board rendered its decision, noting that more than 2 million NYC residents will be affected.

“New York, the Independent Rent Guidelines Board just froze the rent,” Mamdani says while grabbing an ice cream bar from the fridge. “That means if you’re one of the more than two million New Yorkers who live in a rent-stabilized apartment, your rent’s gonna be frozen next year.

But NYC’s Jude Jean Paul Bernard, who is a landlord, real Estate Broker, and investor, was quite unimpressed. He posted his own video to roast Mamdani and his supporters.

Bernard opens by sarcastically congratulating renters on having their rent frozen, then pours out a cold reality that neither they nor Mamdani wants to hear.

You guys got the rent frozen, and for the next two years, there will be no increases. Perfect!

Now, that doesn’t mean that expenses have gone down. That doesn’t mean that taxes, insurance, water, energy….None of that went down.

So, I’m not sure if we were struggling to make the numbers before, I’m not sure how we’re going to fix that boiler, fix that broken elevator, and do all those things that you tenants deserve.

If there’s no money, how are we going to do this?

And conveniently, the same city that just passed this rent freeze has also said that they will be taking distressed properties from bad landlords.

So, you don’t have the money to fix the properties, but if we don’t fix the properties, you guys are going to take it away.

BREAKING: Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi appears to have launched a coup d'état against elements within the Iraqi government in an effort to purge and arrest government officials with ties to the Islamic regime of Iran. Iraqi news media are claiming that the U.S. government is behind this coup d'état.

Tens of Iraqi government officials, politicians, and influential figures believed to have supported Iran have reportedly been arrested by Iraqi Special Forces and the Counter Terrorism Service (CTS), allegedly with the support of the United States. The operation is widely claimed to have been backed by the U.S. government.

Reports indicate that tanks from Iraq's Counter Terrorism Service have entered Baghdad's Green Zone and sealed off all access points. Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service units have also reportedly clashed with the 4th Regiment assigned to the Government Palace inside the Green Zone.

Heavy arrests have been reported inside Baghdad's Green Zone, including:

FBI infiltrated Gavin Newsom’s inner circle by convincing governor’s ally to wear a wire: lawyer

The FBI had a mole inside Gov. Gavin Newsom’s political orbit before the agency’s corruption probe expanded into the governor and his wife, The Post has learned.

Democrat insider Alexis Podesta, 45, secretly recorded conversations during the criminal probe into Newsom’s then-chief of staff, Dana Williamson, 53, who pleaded guilty to federal fraud and tax charges in May, according to Williamson’s attorney.

The revelation she was wearing a wire as far back as June 2024 explains why a swath of Sacramento political insiders and lobbyists were stunned to receive FBI letters last fall informing them that their phone calls had been intercepted during the investigation — despite many having little or no connection to Williamson.

“Alexis wore a wire, and Dana did not,” said McGregor Scott, Williamson’s lawyer and a former US attorney for the Eastern District of California, which is now investigating the Newsoms.

The disclosure comes as Newsom announced last month that he and his wife — whose nonprofit has been burning through money in recent years — as well as members of the governor’s inner circle are under federal investigation.

Within hours of that announcement, Newsom blasted out an email to raise money for political action committee.

Assemblymember Josh Hoover (R-Folsom) told The Post he was among those who received one of the letters even though he had never spoken with either Williamson or Podesta.

“A lot of people received letters essentially informing us that there were certain periods of time where the FBI was given access to follow phone calls,” Hoover said.

“I don’t know how these investigations work, but it sounds like they cast a pretty broad net across the Capitol community to see what they could find.”

A separate source with knowledge of the matter said they knew of four Sacramento insiders who also received FBI notifications confirming they had been recorded.

One recipient told the source: “Dude, I got this f—ing letter. I never even met with Dana Williamson!”

“Their curiosity was that they never even met with Dana Williamson, so they were wondering what this is all about,” the source said.

“And now you have the answer.”

The governor publicly accused President Trump of directing the Justice Department to investigate him as political retaliation ahead of a possible 2028 presidential campaign.

Trump had previously called for Newsom’s arrest.

But sources familiar with the matter told The Post that federal investigators have spent the past year digging into not only Newsom, but also his staff and his wife’s taxes, leading Siebel Newsom to accuse Trump of having “no boundaries.”

Whistleblowers reportedly tipped off the feds to launch the probe into Newsom, and Williamson’s attorney told The Post that his client declined to cooperate because she had no information on Newsom.

Podesta, a longtime Democratic power broker, remains on California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund board — where she receives annual compensation of nearly $61,000 — after Newsom appointed her in January 2020.

She previously served as secretary of the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency and held senior positions in Gov. Jerry Brown’s administration.

She also worked for PG&E, Disney and the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Podesta has not been charged with a crime, but her attorney, Bill Portanova, has identified her as the uncharged co-conspirator described in the Williamson indictment and confirmed she has cooperated with federal investigators.

The governor’s office declined The Post’s request for comment on the circumstances involving Podesta, saying it is a personnel matter.

Podesta and her attorney did not respond to requests for comment.

Williamson pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, filing a false tax return and making false statements to the FBI.

Federal prosecutors alleged Williamson and others orchestrated a scheme to siphon roughly $225,000 from a dormant campaign account belonging to former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, who’s now the Democratic frontrunner to succeed Newsom as governor.

Williamson disguised payments as legitimate consulting fees while routing the money to benefit Becerra’s former chief of staff, Sean McCluskie.

Podesta’s attorney has said she inherited responsibility for overseeing Becerra’s dormant campaign account after Williamson left private consulting to become Newsom’s chief of staff in late 2022 and did not know the payments were improper. Campaign finance records show Becerra’s committee paid Podesta Company mostly $10,000 monthly installments during 2023 and 2024.

According to court filings, Williamson, while serving as Newsom’s chief of staff, shared confidential state government information with a co-conspirator — who has since been identified as Podesta — regarding a corporate client that reporting has identified as Activision Blizzard.

Williamson’s plea agreement states that she was captured in a June 2024 wiretap strategizing with the co-conspirator about how to respond to a Public Records Act request involving the state’s litigation against the company. Williamson and Podesta exchanged text messages on the issue, according to court records. Podesta has not publicly commented on the matter.

A spokesperson for the US attorney’s office that charged Williamson and is investigating the governor declined comment Thursday.

Hoover said the growing investigation has only deepened public skepticism around Newsom and the way the governor’s office conducts business.

“All of this stuff just raises so many questions,” he said. “What is going on in this administration? What types of conversations are being had? I think the entire case should be really concerning for the general public. It’s really raising a lot of mistrust.”

He added: “I think it underlines how problematic this current administration is. [Newsom] is someone who wants to run for president of the United States. It’s really disappointing to see that this is the level of our politics.”

Assange fought the Big Brother from the most horrific dystopian novels, and he paid the price. For twelve years he was deprived of light, stripped of a normal life, and denied the right to fully practice genuine journalism.

Assange and I have known each other for a long time. I visited him a few times at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
