Travel Videos can be great for showing an inside look at various countries and cultures.
Here is an excellent one, only 3 months old, that really show us what it is like inside Iran - the people, their daily habits, and the pressures they can face there, like everywhere.

In particular, I noted that there are not a lot of cell phones evident (yet), and it sure seems like a happier place without them.
Also noted, that the younger women are not all covering their hair, as most of the older women are, and the young seem to be embracing modern ways a bit more. But there appears to be no "Look At Me!" crazy, attention getting culture at all, like is so rampant now in the west. Community and family seems much more valued in Iran still, although like everywhere, there is a large contrast between urban and rural life.

The photo you chose is interesting? Do you see the way those women are dressed as being advanced? Because Iranian women are very well educated (percentage of women post grads in hard sciences etc. far exceeds that of the US), and in private settings (at a restaurant or at home), they have strong opinions and express them confidently. That they do not take a public role in their work, does not mean there are no Iranian women scientists, engineers, etc.

And, after the revolution, the new government focused on development of rural areas, and the education of women was another major focus. The hijab is no longer compulsory, but all women will completely cover up in black when going to the mosque (underneath, a young woman may be wearing jeans!). Can't remember what they were called, but after the revolution there were 'moral police' checking that women were completely covered in public, all the time. They are in the past. But women in Iran still choose modesty.

Iran is a very large country with a huge population (bigger than the US). It would be odd if there were not differing opinions about all things in life. (In my country, complaining about the government is common, but very very few want American/Western imposed regime change and/or war ... it is our government and we have the right to complain about it and mercilessly fact check and investigate it!) Repression of free speech with regard to Israel is common in the West, and in the US, Trump is now calling anyone who disagrees with him a communist (I doubt that him and many Westerners know what communism actually is).

Perhaps you should fact check your beliefs that Iran was an advanced country under the Shah and went backwards after the revolution?

This woman's name is Zahra Hadad-Adel, and she died with her father-in-law, the previous Ayatollah. I am surprised the above post doesn't mention that fact. The current Ayatollah, her husband, did not even attend her funeral.
