    Update other areas:

‘‘There is no threat to the Australian mainland,’’ he said.

Russian authorities on the far-eastern Sakhalin Island and nearby territories have evacuated some 11,000 residents from coastal areas

The PTWC has issued a warning for the Hawaiian islands, where sirens have been sounding along low-lying areas. ‘‘A tsunami has been generated that could cause damage along coastlines of all islands in the state of Hawaii,’’ the warning says. ‘‘Urgent action should be taken to protect lives and property.’’

Indonesia has warned people living in its eastern areas - including Papua, Maluku and North Sulawesi - to be on guard.

"The arrival time of any waves that may be generated is expected at 8pm local time (10pm AEDT),’’ according to an official SMS alert.

I keep trying to make a post but the ground keeps swaying.. I keep darting out the house. OK maybe I'll get this in..

I was on chat with a guy from Christchurch and talking about the earthquake that I avoided by 2 days when it hit here.
I darted out the house with my wife grabbing my P.C. I threw my P.C. down on some grass and we ran to open space
where we huddled and watched in horror the shaking that seems to be never ending. I helped some old guy in a wheelchair
struggling to get out of his house. Then we had a gap.
I then got my P.C. and made this thread and then shaking started again.. It's still shaking from time to time as I type this.
Then I ran into my room and switched on the T.V. and turned it around and opened the window and from there we watched
what was happening. The neighbors also joined in to watch as everyone was out in the street.
They were saying a 7.9 and I was here with you amazing people getting better updates.
Thanks a lot for all the well wishes, we are fine and my wife who was dubious of this site was asking for more info from me.
In which I had to chip in " Told you it's not a bloody ET site"

Then ... whilst everyone was in the street the rubbish men came.. yes they were acting like nothing had happened and was collecting
rubbish from everyones house lol... unbelievable. Just now whilst writing this I hear a 'ding-dong' the door bell, my door is left wide
open so I thought it might be the police or something and it was the gas man coming to collect this months gas bill..
I said to him " are you serious" he replied " sorry but it's my job " He then continued to tell me that he was collecting money off someone
down the street and he spilled all his loose change everywhere and he laughed. I told him to return tomorrow UNBELIEVABLE !!

Anyway things seem to of calmed down for now. Seriously everyone thanks for all the love and good energy you sent my way.
This is the 1st time I have experienced your energy and believe me it's powerful. And this is with just a small bunch of you.

This is what Avalon has ... This is what makes this site the center of the spotlight.
This is why we should never let anyone or anything destroy this wonderful place.

Thank you all from all of my heart..

You had me laugh out loud with that one, Ski. But you should have said - "It's not JUST a bloody ET site."

I'd been watching some of the videos of the earthquake from yesterday and marvelling at how calm the people on the street seemed to be. Everybody continued walking calmly as if the ground wasn't shaking and everything was perfectly normal - I was amazed. I even wondered if it wasn't faked and someone was just moving the camera to make it look like an earthquake (I question much, these days)
But your telling about the bill and garbage (same thing, really) collectors had me agog. Talk about cool, calm and collected.

Thanks for checking in and letting us know you're OK.

The barriers of your belief will form the bars which imprison your mind.

This feels so personal. As Ski said, the energy from this little gathering is pretty overwhelming, it takes a lot for this old chap to shed a tear, but I'm not doing a good job of holding 'em back (I know I shouldnt).

Ski, you are so right - this is why Avalon rox! in times of trouble people - our thoughts alone can do wonders.

Quote Tsunami warning issued for Hawaii, Pacific
Watch issued for California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska

HONOLULU — A tsunami warning issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii after a large earthquake in Japan was widened beyond East Asia late Thursday to include Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Central and South America and the rest of the Pacific Ocean.

The warning was issued Thursday at 9:31 local time. Sirens were sounded about 30 minutes later in Honolulu alerting people in coastal areas to evacuate, and the first waves were expected to arrive at 2:55 a.m. local time (7:55 a.m. ET) Friday.

About 70 percent of Hawaii's population resides in Honolulu, and as many as 100,000 tourists are in the city on any given day.

"A tsunami has been generated that could cause damage along the coastlines of all islands in the state of Hawaii," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center's bulletin said. "Urgent action should be taken to protect lives and property."

Victor Sardina, a geophysisist for the center, told the Honolulu Star-Adviser that 12- to 14-foot waves could hit the town of Hilo on the island of Hawaii and the town of Haleiwa on Oahu.

Residents in Oahu were lining up to get gas, the Star-Adviser reported.

A tsunami watch was issued for California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska from the California-Mexico border to Chignik Bay, Alaska.

The Oregonian newspaper said any wave which reached the coast could hit just before 7:30 a.m. local time (3:30 p.m. ET) Friday.

    Southeast Asia braces
In the Philippines, officials ordered an evacuation of coastal communities along the country's eastern seaboard in expectation of a tsunami following the 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan.

Disaster management officials in Albay province southeast of Manila say they ordered residents to move to designated evacuation sites that are at least 15 feet above sea level.

In Guam, authorities advised people to evacuate low areas of the U.S. territory and seek ground higher than 50 feet above sea level and 100 feet inland.

The Northern Mariana Islands, another U.S. territory, was also under the warning, and the Hyatt Regency in Saipan has moved guests to three highest floors of the seven-story hotel.

Hotel spokesman Luis Villagomez said the hotel had received about three tsunami warnings in the last year but no serious damage.

Tsunami warnings are issued due to the imminent threat of a tsunami. The coast of North America is not included in the warning.

This is a breaking news story. Please check back for updates.

Looks to me like a fault opened up , and the water is running down into it under the plate. Id like to know if it stops or not naturally.
