I watched live, from T-10 min.

Good launch, with a brief heart attack pause less than 60 s from T, Tim thought it would be a scrub. He was overjoyed when it lit, and was enthused at how quickly it accelerated. All 33 Raptor version 3 engines remained functional throughout the stage 1 boost phase.

On replays, I counted 3 or 4 shock diamonds in the aggregate rocket plume, each dozens of meters long. I compare that to the usual example from night pics and vids of fighter jets (and the Blackbird, back then) in afterburner. Mad thrust.

Booster had a problem just before splashdown near Starbase, came in too hot, hit hard and failed that portion of its testing. Tim said they didn’t attempt a tower catch because the new engines, so different, were an unknown. Good choice here, and Tim thinks they won’t try that next flight too.

Top unit reached the sub orbital goal trajectory, popped out 20 new version starlink satellites, which all activated. The last few shone “flashlights” back on the mothership and took vid of it for study of the condition of the heat shield tiles, as it rolled to present the vulnerable/important underbelly before the harsh re-entry.

Made a spot-on splashdown in the Indian Ocean, even flopping down with the most-heated tiles up, videoed by a drone’ cam. On board cams continued sending, until the SpaceX feed was cut, notably cams in the aft edges of the moveable ~fins, dunking in and out of the water. I felt like I was swimming in that ocean!

SpaceX is about to launch their second V3 Starship as well as a deploying the first operational V3 Starlink satellites! It will still be a sub-orbital mission with similar objectives to Flight 12, but an important step towards orbit and full reuse.

Only a few hours ago, SpaceX posted new angles of Starship's landing burn and splashdown in the Indian Ocean. In addition, they shared updates on the recovery team which is still actively following and gathering data on the floating stage. It's now been nearly 4 days since the stage contacted the water and it is still floating. This has given teams a unique opportunity to follow it as it drifts and capture some great images.
