Tsunami hits Taiwan, no damage—weather bureau


TAIPEI – (UPDATE) Taiwanese authorities said Friday that minor tsunamis set off by a massive quake in Japan reached the island's coastline without causing any damage.

Waves around 10 centimeters (four inches) high hit Taiwan's east and northeast coasts in the evening, the central weather bureau said.

The bureau said it did not expect more and bigger waves but will only lift the warning when the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center does so.

Taiwan's central emergency response center told AFP that the waves had caused no damage.

Earlier on Friday, schools and offices in several coastal cities were closed while coast guards patrolled ports instructing fishermen to take shelter on land in preparation for the tsunamis, officials said.

Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou voiced concern over quake damage in Japan and pledged to send rescue teams if necessary.

"We need to stay vigilant. Disaster prevention is better than disaster relief," he told reporters.

Taiwan's foreign ministry issued a travel warning against four Japanese cities, as the death toll from the massive 8.9-magnitude quake reached 32, according to Japanese press reports.

The tsunami should of made it here in the Philippines by now and i haven't heard of anything as of yet so maybe the main damage from the tsunami might be restricted to west of the quakes epicenter.

Australia was definitely mentioned, now its gone so why is New Zealand mentioned?

Aus is south of Indonesia and PNG, the Kiwis are much much further south. What about the North East coast of Australia?

All i know is 10km depth seems to be a favorite of HAARP and you say there was weird colous in the sky?Definitely suspicious IMHO. And i heard earlier in the thread that HAARP spiked before the quake !!

Just looked at the USGS 3D map and it's the quietest it's been in ages - only 2 places registering over 3.5 . One of them being the area near Japan which is still registering a lot of 5's and 6's.

This is so horrible ! Keep safe all ! I must say I suspect Haarp ! As there is the air fenomena !
This wave is going to hit other places ! People in this area ! Get lots of safe water and food NOW and prepare to move. Blankets, clothings, medication.
Knife, saw lighter/matches someting to boil water and food in !

Just went to the shop and although everyone seemed to have a brave face today.. this has all changed now as everyone looks worried. ALL the food was gone.. ALL the water was gone. The traffic is at a stand still and Tokyo City everyone is stuck. All trains have obviously stopped. The Super Arena in Tokyo is going to open for everyone stuck. Buses will run all night..

We are expecting a black out in all of Tokyo so if I go offline for hours then that'll be why but these are just rumors flying about.

The nuclear plant is apparently on the verge of leaking (although news says otherwise) but people are twitting about it, and people are being evacuated. They have shut down the plant.

The aftershocks are a right royal pain, can't relax for one minuet.

I'm tired but the TV keeps bleeping and tsunami warnings keep coming... more 6 plus meters ones coming.. 10 meters..

I hate TV but I'm stuck with it on because of warnings coming in.

My (very good inside-connected) source says one block of the ***ushima nuclear plant is out of control, cooled by backup batteries (diesel generators being down), said to last for about an hour now.
Also the top of the Tokyo Tower has reportedly fell off.

A 2 km perimeter of the nuclear plant is being evacuated, US army has issued a memorandum of co-operation, national emergency now declared (sorry if this was already posted, didn't have time to read all the posts so far)
