Powerful moment in Lampedusa today as the Pope Leo climbs to the highest rock overlooking the Mediterranean where thousands of migrants drowned while seeking a better life.

Pope Leo in Lampedusa: "Today I am here to tell you that the Pope continues to walk with you, to support you, and to encourage you. We have gathered here to draw from Christ the love that only He can give us, so that the world of today and tomorrow may be more human—more human for everyone."

“The sea has claimed the lives of others — those who did not manage to reach their hoped-for destination. Yet we feel their presence, which challenges us no less than that of those who have landed in need of attention and aid. Indeed, before any intellectual consideration or ideological conviction, the encounter with those who lie before us, stripped of everything, calls us to be close to them.”

“It is time to recognize and affirm that religious affiliation must never become a reason for discrimination, as if faith had boundaries rather than being a universal call to salvation. Where there were walls of separation, Christ broke them down. There is no love of God without love of neighbor, and there is no neighbor if I do not draw near.”

Pope Leo in Lampedusa: “Indifference to the common good and corruption in migrants countries of origin; a global economic system that generates poverty and exclusion; fear that fuels prejudice and contempt; the belief that such problems do not concern us — all are present-day echoes of the haste to ‘pass by.’” http://vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/en...usa-messa.html

Vatican expresses serious concerns over Israel-Lebanon framework implementation
    ——
Following a private audience between Pope Leo XIV and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the Vatican, the Holy See voiced serious concerns regarding ongoing difficulties in implementing the US-brokered agreement between Israel and Lebanon.

During the thirty-minute meeting, President Aoun urged the pontiff to support Beirut's push for a complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from southern Lebanon.

Despite the established framework of the deal, Israeli strikes continue to impact civilians while heavy demolition operations targeting residential homes persist across a strip of territory stretching roughly ten kilometers deep inside the Lebanese border.

In an official statement, the Vatican welcomed the initial signing of the document while pledging its active support for diplomatic efforts to resolve implementation hurdles, following discussions with high-ranking officials including Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Paul Richard Gallagher.

Pope Leo at conclusion of Angelus address: “Two days ago marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks in the United States of America. I renew my prayers for those who lost their lives and for those who continue to bear the wounds of that tragic day. At a time when conflict and violence afflict so many of our brothers and sisters, I invite everyone to pray that the Lord will bestow his gift of peace upon the world. The memory of the tragic event that took place twenty-five years ago prompts us to renew our commitment to peace, first and foremost through prayer, which we entrust to the intercession of the Virgin Mary.”

This is just incredible. The Pope is absolutely loving this.

At the Prayer Vigil with the young people of France, they reenact the incredible history of the Church of France, from the arrival of Lazarus and his sister Mary Magdalene, the martyrdom of St. Denis, the baptism of Clovis, the purchase of the Crown of Thorns of Our Lord by St. Louis IX, St. Joan of Arc, the countless Saints of the eldest daughter of the Church, the martyrs of the French Revolution, all the way to the great St. Thérèse of Lisieux.

It was one of the most moving moments of Pope Leo XIV’s Prayer Vigil with young people at the Stade de France.

Hundreds of actors represented France’s more than 1,700 saints and blesseds, creating a striking image of a true “army of holiness.”

Pope Leo XIV was deeply moved and, in a moment that touched everyone present, even wiped away a tear.

The moment culminated in a grand fireworks celebration.

In Notre Dame, and for the first time in his pontificate, Pope addresses liturgical disputes;”… the liturgy remains a reflection of life. Eucharistic joy takes root and spreads wherever harmony is restored, wherever dignity is renewed, wherever authority becomes service, and wherever freedom is able to flourish again. This is the greatest gift we can share. Therefore, place communion with the successor of Peter and with the Church before your personal preferences, so as to foster the unity of God’s people. Thus, together, we will bear prophetic witness to the possibility of a reconciled world.”

Tonight in Lourdes, we are witnessing something we must not forget.

Pope Leo XIV led the torchlit procession. Not from a platform. Not blessing from afar. He walked. Behind the statue of the Virgin Mary, a candle in hand, right in the midst of everyone.

It had never been done like this before. John Paul II and Benedict XVI had taken part, but they hadn’t walked the path with the pilgrims. He insisted on doing it for real.

The rite is simple, and it is very ancient. Every evening at 9 p.m., from April to November, people gather at the Grotto. They light their torches. They follow the statue of Our Lady. They recite the Rosary, mystery after mystery. They sing the Lourdes Ave Maria, each in their own language. The procession leaves the Grotto, follows the Gave River, climbs up to the esplanade, and stops in front of the basilica. At the end, they exchange the peace.

That’s what the procession is. A crowd moving forward in the dark with a small light, because Mary asked that we come here in procession.

Tonight, the pope was in it. Not above it. In it. With the sick in the front row, the families, the people who say nothing and simply hold their candle.

I don’t know how to say it any other way: it’s deeply moving. To see the Bishop of Rome walking like any ordinary pilgrim, in this river of flames, sometimes in silence, sometimes singing.

Lourdes has always been that. Not the scenery. The people moving forward together in the night. Tonight, the pope chose to be one

The eldest daughter of the Church is awakening.

Today Paris lived a day that few imagined seeing this century. Pope Leo XIV celebrated an outdoor Mass with the presence of nearly one million people.

The scene is paradoxical. France is one of Europe's most secularized countries. More than half of adults declare they have no religion. Catholic identification fell from 85% in the 1960s to much lower levels today. And yet, something new is happening.

At Easter 2026, more than 21,000 teenagers and adults were baptized in the Catholic Church in France. It was a record. Adult baptisms grew 28% compared to 2025 and more than tripled in ten years (they were just over 4,000 in 2016). The largest group among adults now is those aged 18 to 25.

It is no longer just the faith inherited from the family. It is a chosen faith. Young people who were never catechized, or who drifted away, knock on the Church's door after a personal search, a crisis, reading the Gospel, or encountering Christians.

Pope Leo XIV said today that the phenomenon surprises precisely because it occurs in a deeply secularized society, and he recognized in it the action of the Holy Spirit.

France has not returned to the past. Something new is being born. And today the whole world saw it in the streets of Paris.

    Mark Lambert

    “You are not a burden.”

Four simple words from Pope Leo at Lourdes today, but in contemporary France they carry enormous moral weight.

Only last month France enacted its new law establishing a right to aide à mourir.

And today, surrounded by the sick, disabled, frail and suffering, Leo confronted the anthropology behind the euthanasia debate head-on.

Human dignity, he said, “cannot be measured or debated”. We must reject causing death under the guise of “false compassion”. “What is legal is not necessarily moral.” And to doctors and nurses: Your vocation is “to care for a suffering person, not eliminate that person.”

Then he turned directly to the sick: “You are not a burden. You are the beating heart of our humanity and a precious treasure for the Church.”
That is the Catholic answer to the terrible fear which haunts so much of the assisted-
dying debate: I am useless. I have lost my independence.

My family has to care for me. I cost too much. Perhaps everyone would be better off if I were gone.

No. Your value does not diminish because your body fails. Your dignity does not depend upon productivity, independence, cognitive ability, youth or health. You do not become less human because you need someone else to feed you, wash you, carry you or sit beside your bed.

And compassion does not mean eliminating the person who suffers. It means refusing to abandon them in their suffering. That is why Leo's call for proper palliative care matters just as much as his condemnation of assisted death.

Christianity's alternative is not: you must suffer it is: we will suffer with you. Perhaps nowhere could that message have been more powerfully delivered than Lourdes, where for generations the sick have not been hidden away as an embarrassment to human autonomy but brought quite literally to the centre of the Church. “You are not a burden.” France so needed to hear those words!!

Pope Leo XIV to the sick in Lourdes:

"Dear brothers and sisters who are sick, I want to tell you that you are not a burden. You are the beating heart of our humanity and a precious treasure for the Church. I carry in my prayers the trials you are going through. My thoughts are also with all those who cannot be here and who, from their homes or hospital rooms, are united with us in this gathering. I entrust all of you to the maternal love of the Mother of the Lord, asking her to obtain for you the consolations of her Son Jesus. May God bless and protect you."

    This is BIG.

Pope Leo has just told the bishops of France that laïcité does NOT mean Christianity should retreat from public life and that the answer to France’s secularisation is the public evangelisation of Jesus Christ.

Speaking at Lourdes this morning, Leo insisted that the Church has “every right to be heard in the public square” and possesses, by her very nature, a “prophetic authority”. Then he became remarkably explicit, he told the bishops to defend the Church’s freedom: “to evangelize, to educate about true freedom, and to worship publicly, so that charity may be exercised visibly in the name of Jesus Christ.” Read that again in the context of modern France. The state may be secular. The Church emphatically is not.

Laïcité cannot mean that Catholicism is permitted to survive only as private spirituality, safely contained behind church doors and forbidden from attempting to convert, educate or influence the culture around it.

And Leo went further, he told French Catholics to “reclaim their heritage of faith”. Christianity, in other words, is not some foreign intrusion into French society. Leo reminded the bishops that the Church helped build France, profoundly shaping its culture, art, education and understanding of the human person. So what should the Church do now that France has become one of the most secularised societies in Europe? Leo’s answer could hardly be clearer: “There is only one ‘roadmap,’ which is always the same: to make Jesus Christ known and loved, authentically, passionately, again and again.” That's a really powerful sentence!

And then at Mass in Lourdes the language became even stronger. “Today, not tomorrow,” Leo said, is the time to repent. He recalled Our Lady’s words to Bernadette:
“Penance! Penance! Penance!” And, in a France currently wrestling with profound questions about assisted dying, he warned against attempts “to redefine the value of human life in illness, suffering and old age”.
There are still subjects I want to hear Leo address more directly: abortion, euthanasia, marriage, demographic decline, Islam and the enormous challenge of integration. But the direction of this visit is now unmistakable: reclaim France’s Christian inheritance, defend the Church’s place in public life, call people to repentance and proclaim Christ without embarrassment. Not a strategy for managing Christianity’s decline, a roadmap for reversing it.

VATICAN: “This afternoon, Pope Leo XIV received seven victims of clerical abuse in France (4 men and 3 women) at the Episcopal House of Lourdes. The Pope met with each one privately, listened to their stories of pain and suffering, sometimes aggravated by the complicity or silence of those who should have helped—and gathered their proposals to ensure that this does not happen again. He also dedicated moments of prayer with some of them. The Pope thanked them for their testimony, reaffirmed his commitment that the evil suffered will not be repeated, and expressed his closeness to all victims of abuse. He asked for prayers for himself and imparted his blessing to them. The meeting concluded around 7:30 p.m.”

NEW: Pope Leo XIV called on the Catholic Church to face the wounds of the sexual abuse crisis and repent on Sunday, hours before a private meeting with seven survivors in Lourdes.

Preaching to 150,000 pilgrims, Leo said the Church “must have the courage to begin with herself” to heal “the deep wounds, infidelities and painful errors that have occurred within her.”

Last October, Leo became the first pope to sit down with an organized survivors’ group, Ending Clergy Abuse. His predecessors met victims one by one and kept such groups at arm’s length.

    Pierre Barnérias

    Translated from French
I just received some information from a friend in the military intelligence service: there may have been up to 1,200,000 people in Paris. I don’t want to reignite the numbers war. That’s not the point. Because in the end, whether there were fewer or more changes nothing about what just happened before our eyes.

For several days, immense crowds gathered in Paris, then in Lourdes. And what strikes me isn’t just their number. It’s what happened in the midst of those crowds. No broken shop windows, no cars set on fire, no violence, no excesses. Families, young people, men and women who smile, who pray, who gather in reflection. People kneeling to confess. And in Lourdes, that heart-wrenching torchlit vigil, with that immense crowd plunged into silence.

So I’d simply like to address those who lead our country. Look at these images. Look at these faces. Look at this crowd. And ask yourself just one thing: what can still bring together so many people in an era when we spend our time opposing one another?

What president, what political leader today is capable of gathering more than a million people in peace, in joy, in silence, without pointing to an enemy, without calling for hatred, without breaking anything?

For four days, something happened in France. Immense crowds came together. They prayed, sang, smiled, sometimes wept. They simply stood together.

And I believe it would be a grave mistake to see this only as a religious event or a story of numbers. Because behind this crowd, there are human beings. People seeking meaning, hope, peace, something greater than themselves that brings them together.

So, to those who govern us: look at them. Really. And ask yourself what they came to seek. Perhaps the answer to that question says far more about the true state of our country than all the polls, all the speeches, and all the statistics.

Because a France capable of bringing together so many people in silence, peace, and joy is also a France that does
