Thank you loveandgratitude for starting this wonderful thread and all the time and energy to find such wonderful feel good videos. It is like stopping to sit under a shady tree after being out in the sweltering heat and noise of the city....Also, all the others who have contributed to this thread. Today is my first day here and this is the second of your posts that I have read and I want to thank you for providing not just more fuel for the fire of my creativity but also hundreds of sparks . . . I am presently working on a book called "The Upward Spiral Method". It is specifically for heroin and opiate addicts of all kinds who are clean now and are in "recovery" . . . it is aimed at helping them use various aspects of what I term "The Power" of this type of addiction to help them stay clean and raise their consciousness to higher levels so that they might ultimately contribute toward raising the overall vibration on the planet and help move us forward in our evolution. What you speak of so expressively concerning the different aspects of where we are at and where we may be going is music to my ears. Thank you a million times. I look forward to reading every word you contribute to this forum and only dream that I can say what I need to say with a fraction of the same eloquence that you possess.

The only thing that can truly make me feel good is my commitment to the truth.

I see my life through a tunnel. I'm way back in the dark, and there's a source of light in the end. That source of light is within my power of choice to move toward.
Even in the darkest hour I know there's great bliss to be found. I believe that. And no one can forcefully take that away from me. No one can deceive me into disbelief.
If at most a temporary push away, it's nothing but temporary.

We make the choice. We make the choice to be positive.

I had a flash of what seemed to be a profound insight into the human experience of living in Duality (which may prove not to be so profound at all, not because it wasn't true necessarily, but because it wasn't really original and I have encountered it before though it never registered in the same way).
It may prove in the end to actually be somewhat similar to what is described in the following:

"The author William James told the story of Mrs. Amos Pinchot, who in a dream thought she had discovered the meaning of life.
Sleepily she wrote down what she believed to be a profound poetic statement.
Fully awake, she saw she had merely written:
"Hogamus, higamus
Man is polygamous
Higamus, hogamus

In other words, stating the obvious (though I included the above mostly just because I've always found it to be very funny )

Overall, my insight was about the human quest for understanding and wisdom, beginning with three common states of mind which I've observed in myself, but which are very common, are misleading, and keep us in ignorance.
...And ending finally with a fourth stage of conscious resolution.

First: We assume that we are simply incapable of understanding the true nature of this bewildering corporeal existence, and therefore a part of our mind remains in a kind of stasis. So we may allow it to remain dormant, going about the business of everyday living resignedly, as we can see no alternative. We risk very little so as to remain "safe".

Second: We assume that "thinking positively" is the best practice, and we seek whatever we think can assist us in identifying with the Light, however that may manifest to us. But we are still threatened with negativity due simply to the many hazards inherent in living. There is a continual, at times desperate battle to replace any perception of negativity with a more positive POV. (Again, we do this to remain "safe".)
Yet at the center of our being, we sense there is still a frightening void which must be avoided at all costs, which can bring about a state of despair and fear that we might fail and end up in a state of negativity.

Third: We cynically embrace negativity in the belief that that is the only way to be realistic, and that any who attempt to avoid that truth is a fool and is lying to themselves. We may still make efforts to succeed in life, not necessarily because we think that is a worthwhile endeavor, but because we are in fear of that inner void which threatens to swallow us up if we are not constantly on guard against it.

Fourth: Finally, we realize that duality is not a threat and the void we have been avoiding is simply the place where the positive and the negative meet. We begin to see the seemingly endlessly shifting between the Light and Darkness as a kind of dance instead of a battle. But by coming to terms with impermanence and the state of constant change, we can begin to find some balance, acceptance and inner peace. We face and accept our Shadow as being natural, instead of resisting and being in denial about it. We arrive at a state of being that is, although "nothing special", as a Zen Master would describe it, yet for that very reason, is acceptable and above all, authentic.

Perhaps not such a profound realization as it seemed in my moment of insight, and certainly not an original one, but one that I think I can live with after having spent quite enough time experiencing those other states of being.

(It was not my intention to contradict the content of your post, Antihero, but after looking at length for a good thread to post my recent realization on, this was the best one I found.
I lived for a year at a Zen Center/commune back in my hippie days, and always resisted the "Nothing special" koans, so it's ironic that I've finally arrived now at what that has always pointed to . )
