Dear Friends, we have an important update which I feel sure we can report here we full.

The Avalon member whose serious problem we shared on this thread is Hym, a member here for 15 years since 2011 with over 1,000 posts to his name. They are very often highly spiritual in nature.

He is now in hospital, and overnight the mods received a message from his son, logging in on his behalf on his account.

Hym has lived in the US for many years, but he is of Indian descent and his name is Saat Pursha, as can be seen in his son Ahtmah's newly launched GoFundMe below.

One of the most important things to say is that the many replies on this thread urging him to get himself to hospital immediately may yet prove to have saved his life.

My Dad is in the hospital and awaiting to be transferred to a specialized care facility. He currently has no access to the internet so he wanted me to write this on his behalf to let you know his situation.

My Dad has metastatic adenocarcinoma. He got this diagnosis on August 31st. He is receiving treatment to beat the cancer and he wants to live. My Dad has survived life threatening events before so I believe he will beat this and be okay somehow, but he needs all of the support emotionally and financially as possible. My Dad is poor and can barely afford to survive as it is, financially speaking.

I made a GoFundMe to help my father raise money to support him in his fight against his cancer and for any specialized care he may need in the foreseeable future. Please, if you or anyone on this form can donate or share this GoFundMe with someone who can help my Dad then please do so immediately:

My own comment: as best I know, metastatic adenocarcinoma is a Stage Four cancer and is treatable. (In Hym's case, his son Ahtmah refers to it in his GoFundMe as prostate cancer.)

I am on edge trying to do all I can for my Dad to get well as quickly as possible but it isn't easy as I live in Brazil and he lives far away from me back in the U.S. I renewed my passport recently but I am struggling to find the money for a plane ticket to go back there and see him. I earn pretty poorly in Brazilian currency as an English teacher here working 3 jobs and it still isn't enough. Whatever I can do for my father though is my main focus.

The monetization of the medical system, is the most revolting and disgusting side of humanity... When money is what determines whether someone lives or dies? It shows just how vile some humans can be. When "for profit" companies decide whether you get medical care or not, based upon your ability to pay? Humanity has taken a turn towards something very ugly. While those working in the system, need to earn a living, the powerful organizations set up to determine who gets what, need a major overhaul.

We are awaiting further results on a biopsy they did of my father to see if he has potential bladder cancer in addition to the prostate cancer. Most likely these results will come in sometime next week. I will keep you updated as soon as we know more.

Hopefully the more visibility will help raise the funds needed to get the family where they need to be, and moreso, the tests and treatments the insurance may not cover. I am sure we are well past the matter of whether it will cover the hospitalization.

Swallowing one's pride to reveal a situation that is life threatening, to allow for some help to come your way, is a difficult thing to do, and we are glad you have chosen to do such a thing... You are worth it.

Many prayers and hopeful wishes of a good outcome are coming your way. Every donation helps as well... I do hope thst by moving the thread, it gets more visibility, and reaches the goal quickly...

Hello Bill, Ahtmah here.

My Dad was transported from a hospital to a specialized care center where he has been since Tuesday. He is eating more and better than he was at the hospital. We are still waiting on more follow-ups from Oncologists and hoping he can get a PET scan soon to make sure the cancer isn't anywhere else in his body.

One of the hospitals my Dad went to (the first he entered where he went into the ER) is demanding that he pays the $8,150.80 I mentioned in the GoFundMe I created for him now by the deadline of September 29th.

Even though the amount raised so far from the GoFundMe isn't sufficient to pay the large debt the hospital is charging him, I am very grateful for everyone who has taken the time to give whatever they could to it. Hopefully if we are lucky this will continue.

The biopsy the hospital did last week of my father as far as I could read said that his cancer was of prostate origin, not bladder.

People sometimes get confused with thinking my Dad isn't an American due to his Sikh name, but he like myself was born and raised in the U.S. and have been U.S. citizens our whole lives, just to clear any doubts there.

An Avalon member, someone we all know but who has asked to remain unnamed, has spoken at length with Hym/ Saat Pursha and intends to go visit him today in person. She asked if I could please post a synopsis of her impressions which she shared with me in great detail.

She describes Hym/Saat as strong willed and dynamically intelligent with a tremendously loving heart. He was full of stories and wisdom, with a vibrant energy and care for others that clearly impacts those around him — including the nurses there who have all grown to admire him.

He's most deeply grateful for all the concerned thoughts shared by the members here. He greatly appreciates Avalon and the high quality of our community. But he is weak and not eating well, because of the limitations of the hospital diet, and one scheduled biomedical test had to be canceled simply because he'd not eaten enough. She and her husband will be bringing him some good vegetarian food, which may start to help a great deal.

Hym/Saat is a profoundly spiritual person who knows and fully understands the value and power of prayer. He has specifically asked if members here could pray for him, in whatever form of spirituality they themselves feel comfortable with. (He himself never judges whatever anyone else's personal religious or spiritual beliefs might be. Prayer is prayer, and he knows that its miraculous power transcends every cultural norm.)



I want to just add that I myself am also so continually impressed by Avalon's members. They amaze and humble me every day. This most extraordinarily gracious and kind person who is now in touch with Hym/Saat personally and is determined to do everything she can to help is just one instance among very many of the very loving community that we're so blessed to have around us.

The GoFundMe is standing at $871, which Hym/Saat and his son Ahtmah are so thankful for. Quite a lot more is needed before the deadline that is looming at the end of the month. I know that times are tough for many of us — but please, if it is possible, do whatever small thing you can.
