Bill, I agree with your assessment of the environment. Sorry, I did not make my point very well.Posted by Bill Ryan (here)
Richard, I disagree so absolutely and profoundly that I truly don't even know how to respond to what you say you feel.Posted by rgray222 (here)
Bill, I feel just the opposite; I don't believe that we are gradually but systematically destroying Earth's ecosphere.
I could spend half an hour or more amassing images, videos, and statistics, but I'd find that too depressing — an honest statement from me there. So I'm not going to do that. However, if you sincerely want to check out the truth of your assertion yourself, I'd support that fully.

What I was trying to emphasize is that we have only just begun to take this issue seriously. In the past 25 years or so, we have made great progress, and I believe that in the coming years and decades, the improvements on all environmental issues will be even more tremendous. We have seen significant progress in many areas I mentioned in my comment above, and I see no reason why this progress won't extend to the environment, especially since it affects every human on the planet. Even though it may not always seem obvious, humanity continues to make meaningful improvements, such as reducing poverty, combating child labor, increasing access to education, and advancing minority rights. I believe that AI will only enhance our ability to make these improvements even faster and more effectively.
