--Peter Fenwick (1935–2024) was a neuropsychiatrist and neurophysiologist who is known for his pioneering studies of end-of-life phenomena.

In this interview he talks about near-death-experiences (NDE), death-bed-visitors and how we can achieve a good death.

NDE research is at the cutting edge of consciousness research and offers a convincing model for the understanding of what happens when we die. Peter Fenwick describes the different transitional phases of the dying process and highlights the importance of letting go at the end of ones life.

He offers fascinating insights into common phenomena at the end of life, such as premonitions, seeing a light, death-bed-visions and coincidences.

A Not ‘Very Elegant’ Coup In Poland

Late Friday the neoliberal-centrist government of Poland under Prime Minister Donald Tusk attempted a coup against the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland. The two leading judges of the court were suspended and police surrounded the court’s building:

Poland took a step toward removing the president of the country’s top court, kicking off a showdown with the nationalist opposition ahead of a parliamentary election next year.
Police entered the Constitutional Tribunal’s premises late on Friday as its president, Bogdan Swieczkowski, and his deputy were served with a one-month suspension. Polish President Karol Nawrocki returned to Warsaw after ordering his plane en route to Senegal to be turned back, he said in a post on X social media platform.

Nawrocki, who was elected in 2025, is on the side of the conservative-nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party.

In previous years, when PiS had controlled the government, it had changed the procedures for installing new judges:

[This] date[s] back to the political takeover of the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS) by PiS in 2018. PiS stacked the judge-appointing body with judges elected by the parliament, which the party controlled at the time, while earlier KRS members had largely been chosen by judges themselves.

The European commission in Brussels has disliked the process and had punished Poland under PiS for hampering the ‘independence’ of its judiciary.

The current coup is part of an attempt by Brussels and the now ruling Tusk government to revert the process.

The Constitutional Tribunal of Poland is tasked with reviewing whether laws comply with the constitution. Its judges are elected by the parliament but need the confirmation of the president. President Nawrocki has rejected five of eight tribunal judges proposed by the Tusk government.

The Tusk government issued ‘motions to waive immunity’ of five judges of the tribunal. There seems to be no legal basis at all for issuing such ‘motions’. The Tusk government also declared that a judge, who had not been confirmed by the president, would now lead the court. The court’s website was taken down and police surrounded the building.
Prime Minister Tusk tweeted:

Restoring the rule of law is our duty. After years of PiS-led lawlessness, this is a difficult process, sometimes painful, and it requires decisive action. There is no other way.

Having arrived back in Poland President Nawrocki joint the first president of the Tribunal as they push their way through police lines into the Constitutional Tribunal building.

The coup now seems to hang in balance. PiS is likely to activate its followers to protest against the government.

There are claims that the government is calling up more police forces:

LEAKED: Polish police ordered riot units nationwide onto full combat readiness, one day before the Tribunal takeover?
A document allegedly signed by Deputy Chief of Polish Police Tomasz Michułka has been published by the PiS-aligned outlet wPolsce24 and shared by its journalist Samuel Pereira. Confederation leader Sławomir Mentzen has also posted it.
The letter, marked “VERY URGENT” and dated October 29, allegedly orders all regional police commanders and Warsaw’s police chief to keep riot units ready for immediate deployment from November 2 to 8, citing “the operational situation in the country.”

If genuine, the order was issued the day before Tusk’s camp moved on the Constitutional Tribunal.

I find it doubtful that Tusk will get away with this:

Last month, parliament appointed Maciej Berek, top legal adviser to Tusk’s government, as another judge to the Tribunal in a bid to break the impasse. Nawrocki refused to swear him in.
“I need to be sure that our judges will walk into that building and that everything will be in accordance with the law,” Tusk said last month. “Maybe it won’t be very elegant.”

If Tusk really wants an independent judiciary he should refrain from pushing “our judges” into it.

The New Yorker, is now interested to study the Brazilian working class. They look at André Janones and "Lula’s Army" and call it a "tech-savvy" miracle that reversed the far-right surge.

But they are missing the profound civilizational shift that just took place.

Let us look at the material reality of those three weeks between the first and second rounds.

For years, the empire and the domestic oligarchs treated the internet as their private property. They used Silicon Valley algorithms, dark money, and decentralized right-wing troll farms to isolate, exhaust, and manipulate the public.

When Flávio Bolsonaro took the lead in the first round, the left didn't just buy better ads. André Janones digitized the physical solidarity of the streets. He organized millions of ordinary Brazilians into "Lula’s Army," synchronizing their messaging to manually overpower the algorithm.

The strategy was so devastatingly effective that the Global North is now begging the Global South for the blueprint. Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has requested Janones’s help, and in France, activists are studying "Janonisme" to fight the far-right.

Why is the institutional media in New York and Paris suddenly looking to a Brazilian politician to learn how to survive the digital age?

Because for a decade, the empire believed the working class was too atomized and too exhausted to fight back online. They thought the digital realm was permanently locked behind algorithms controlled by right-wing billionaires.

But Brazil proved a beautiful, undeniable truth: when ordinary people—the nurses, the bus drivers, the students—synchronize their dignity, no algorithm can contain them. The left didn't just "hack" a social media platform; they broke the empire's digital enclosure.

The Global North spent billions building a digital cage for the world.
