I feel I have to share this personal story. (Forgive me!)

I once visited a Nestlé Ice Cream Factory, in my long-ago previous-life days as a consultant. The moment I arrived, the giant machine malfunctioned and spewed vast quantities of ice cream all over the floor until it was over a foot deep wall to wall. (I was quickly ushered out!

Oh my gawd - the future looks bleak

This video brought back memories. I can almost smell the rubber still. During my senior year of high school, I worked third shift manufacturing oxygen masks for aviation and other silicone rubber products. I had few scars on my arms for awhile from accidentally touching the machinery.

Finding work wasn’t easy. I was limited not only by my age but also by my schedule, and I didn’t have a driver’s license. Fortunately, a position opened up at a textile mill that was within walking distance of both school and my apartment. When I went in for an interview, the manager was hesitant to hire me because I was still in school. I was so determined to prove myself that I offered to work for free for the first week to show him I was a hard worker. He hired me and got paid for that week.
