The magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Baqing, Nagqu, Tibet has drawn widespread concern. Unlike plain regions, this area sits at high altitude with frigid weather and winding mountain roads. Rockfalls and damaged roads greatly hinder rescue work after quakes. Few can imagine that in such a remote plateau area, all affected residents could be temporarily housed with one tent for each household within just 24 hours.
This speed does not come by chance. The whole emergency chain runs at full speed: disaster reporting, mobilisation of rescue teams, supply coordination, road clearance, household-by-household checks and tent setup. Frontline staff and rescuers work nonstop amid thin oxygen and low temperatures to deliver shelter to every stricken family.
People often talk about what “China speed” really means. This rescue on the plateau offers a vivid example. It is not about chasing flashy statistics. Its core is putting people first: in the wake of disaster, sheltering residents and securing their basic survival always comes first.
Many Western media hold biased views and downplay or smear our disaster relief and livelihood support work in border regions. This resettlement result shows clearly: no matter how remote or harsh the conditions are, protecting people’s lives and properly settling victims is a non-negotiable bottom line. There are no shortcuts in disaster rescue. Every tent stands for the dedication of countless people.
