My mother's side of the family is English, German, Dutch and her father was 1/2 Cherokee and her mother 1/4 Cherokee (both born in East Tenn.).
My father's ancestors are Scottish and Irish (they settled in East Tenn. [around the Clinch mountain] also).
There was a "black" Uncle John Ogen so I have a smattering of African as well.

I have only managed to find out partially where my family line extends. I plan on expanding this knowledge further when I have the time, energy and money for it lol.

Generally, I consider[ed] myself (and am considered by others) as Slavic, with a Macedonian dominant ethnic background.

But as I started digging up on the family tree, it seems that like many others of you here, I am a very mixed. Quite a genetic composition.

    From my father's side:

    * Overall genetic inheritance: The wild, straight hair, the sensitivity to stress, and the overall hard arse attitude;

    * Ethnic lines:

    Macedonian 27%

    Serbian 23%
(my grandmother is Serbian, from Kraguevac)

Here it got more interesting and I got more results

    From my mother's side:

    * Overall genetic inheritance: Sensitive skin, sensitive eyes, sensitive teeth, but one heck of an immune system, and I seem to heal a bit faster than the average person, usually with just minor scars, even though the injury might be quite dire;

    * Ethnic lines:

Macedonian 14% (mainly passed by my only living grandfather, who married my grandmother (daughter of a Russian/Macedonian woman living in the same region, and Spanish/Middle-Eastern man)

Russian (apparently Yakut) 6% (great great grandmother, from what i can tell, her family has been in that are for a long time, so I gave up digging more, the ancestors should be Russian Turkic people)

Hungarian (Hunic) 4% (great great grandfather, married a Russian maid in Sakha, still researching the rest of his background, he seems to be composite as well)

Spanish (Basqian) 12% (Twin brothers immigrating to the Balkans in 1898, one of them, becoming my great, great, grandfather)

Spanish (Other/Uknown) 9% (a line passed from the twin brothers' mother, still researching her)

Pakistani (Muhajir) 3% (great great great grandmother, giving birth to a girl that later marries my great, great, grandfather Diego, from Spain, who is the father of my great grandfather Milan, father of my only living grandfather;s wife) - so complex...

Egyptian (Alexandrian) 2% (great great great grandfather, marrying my Pakistani great great great grandmother)

I hope I put everything in order. Its very confusing, I know. Even to me. Perhaps because I see this in English form for the first time lol.

Default Re: Would you like to share your ancestry?

This is a great post! So interesting to read about other members ancestry (especially Lord Sid's...fascinating!)
I am a 10th generation New Zealander on my mother's side. It's almost all completely Irish with a bit of English thrown in, and even some Scandinavian which balances out the alcoholism gene quite nicely...hehe.
My mother's ancestors were some of the first settlers on the north shore of Auckland, infact they founded Devonport and owned much of the land along the coastline. You can still go there today and visit the grave stones and read about them. Unfortunately none of their fortune filtered down to my mother, and she spent much of her childhood living in conditions reminiscent of Frank McCourts Angela's Ashes. But that's another story....
My Dad has mainly Irish and English ancestry again, with the most interesting ancestor being a man by the name of Sir Leander Starr Jameson, who was well thought of by his contemporaries. He was a close friend and cohort of Cecil Rhodes (don't mention the war) and together they orchestrated The Jameson Raid, which was a disastrously failed attempt to overthrow the Boers in an area of South Africa that they wanted to gain British Control over. Winston Churchill later cited The Jameson Raid "major factor in bringing about the Boer War of 1899 to 1902."
Despite all this Leanderr Starr was held in high esteem by nearly all who met him, having inspired comments like: "Whatever one felt about him or his projects when he was not there, one could not help falling for the man in his presence...."
Astonishingly, Rudyard Kipling admired him so much, that in his autobiography Kipling states that his famous poem IF was "drawn from Jameson's character" Amazing!

EDIT: I meant to add one more quote, which I really enjoy...
".... He wrapped himself in cynicism as with a cloak, not only to protect himself against his own quick human sympathy, but to conceal the austere standard of duty and honour that he always set to himself. He was ever trying to hide from his friends his real attitude towards life, and the high estimate he placed upon accepted ethical values... He was essentially a patriot who sought for himself neither wealth, nor power, nor fame, nor leisure, nor even an easy anchorage for reflection. The wide sphere of his work and achievements, and the accepted dominion of his personality and his influence were both based upon his adherence to the principle of always subordinating personal considerations to the work in hand, upon the loyalty of his service to big ideals. His whole life seems to illustrate the truth of the saying that in self-regard and self-centredness there is no profit, and that only in sacrificing himself for impersonal aims can a man save his soul and benefit his fellow men"

All this makes me wonder how much we truly carry down through each generation. I'd like to think that I have inherited some of Leander Starrs better qualities, as well as some of those from the hard working and good natured Irish on both sides too. (alright, and some not so good ones...)
A close friend of mine once said rather wittily when observing a young lady of rather unfortunate appearance..."Ahhh, the tragedy of genetic inheritance." Which sounds mean I know...but I have to admit it's quite true...hehe
It's so interesting to me that whenever I hear Irish music or see photos or film about Ireland, I feel a strong pull and sense of emotion. Would I feel this had I no awareness of my Irish ancestry I wonder. Even more interesting is that as a New Zealander, an inhabitant of a relatively young country with a very short history involving European settlers anyway, the lack of ingrained culture can leave one feeling a bit bereft in terms of a sense of belonging here. I feel more of an affinity towards the Irish sometimes than I do towards my own place of birth.

Here is the link about Leander Starr Jameson for those who are interested...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leander_Starr_Jameson

I've had great fun reading through this thread today...thanks for the great idea, and the opportunity to share some of my family history.

Hi, carrying on from post 28
My mothers fathers side came from the west of Ireland and mingled with the Danish long time back.
my great grand father was a Reverend in Ulster,on to out side Dublin, on to Yorkshire. Rev Richard Huggard M.B.E. MA. BA. Noted for setting up the rugby club in Barnsley, referee games between England and Ireland.
Sons: Lieutenant Hewitt Huggard fell at Gallipoli
Captain Lewis Dudley Richard Huggard also died at 23.
both Oxford grads. The daughters were a determined steely lot, One spoke and translated books into twelve languages into her nineties, another Matron in a London Hospital, another had her own School, all formidable.
My Grand Father, the youngest son, went to Charter House aged six offered scholarships to Oxford, for maths and history aged fifteen.
    All educated on scholarships.
My G Father rebelled against his father, marring my G Mother for not being a blue stocking, getting married in a registry office, turning up in a van pilling out the back, her wearing a black hat and green coat, this was his up yours.
My G Mother, one of the kindest people in my life, told me my G Fathers Mother family was land and gentry and with shame told me, how the workers went on strike for more pay. The family decided to go on holiday till the fuss had died down, on return the workers were staving and went back to work. Seeing my grandmothers disscunfahrt at the treatment of these people I distance my self from asking the family name or the time frame.
My Grand Father warned my Mother, be very weary of the Free Masons, has links to Jack the Ripper. NOW it makes sense.
I wonder what els he new?

On My Fathers side they took care of the family tree and had it back to Count Fulk of Anjou who was in the first crusades and after the crusades was given Jerusalem to rule. King of Jerusalem, Protector of the Holy Sepulcher. Using Ancestry.com I have it all the way back to 600bc. King of the Franks. More recently in my fathers line is the Pikes that Climbed Pikes peak

French from Normandy, French from Poitou, French from elsewhere, Dutch (I do look like a scandinavian, my mom too and the family history is that a boat of people not speaking the local language wrecked on the St-Lawrence Seaway. The local village recuperated the survivors, amongst them the captain, and they named them Pilote (for boat pilots). This family name is still strong in Quebec. My great grand mother said that when they landed from the boat wreck, she was around 4, her name was Darwar or something like this, now named Pilote).

When I got gene tested because of being pregnant and over 35, I was having a gene mutation that makes blood cloths easily, and this gene mutation is found from descendant from a small village in Holland, the only place this gene mutation occured on the planet. This is how I discovered that my great grand mother's boat was from Holland most probably.

Abenakis Indians and French from Normandy from my Dad side.

My family is amongst the first European settlers in North America. (Late 1500s). French Canadians. I do have dreams sometimes that I am a fur trader or an Indian woman. Must be my genes speaking to me.

I love ancestry searches. I discovered that my poorest side were descended from the Howards (Dukes of Norfold, Boleyns etc.). My most-common-name in the UK side built the very odd Brighton Pavillion and much of Kensington&Chelsea. The most downtrodden were Icelanders who wrote and featured in many of the heroic sagas. These sodfarming, viking ancestors of mine were themselves descended from the Yngling Dynasty of Norway (same as Queen E2 comes from) direct descendants of Harald Hardrada who tuckered out the English Harold up at Stamford Bridge so that he lost to William the Conqueror 3 wks later down in Sussex, as William fought with my other side by his side.

Default Re: Would you like to share your ancestry?

For what it is worth in brief.

My family is from Croatia for many many many generations (thousands of years ago?). I recall a family "myth", or simply a story told that my family had come from the region where ancient Sumer once was; I vaguely recall that, for some reason, the bloodline had fled.

I never gave it much thought until sometime in 2003 when I randomly discovered an island, off the cost of what was once ancient Sumer, with my family name on it. Since I found it, another name (or two was added). Supporting this find was material from the United States navy and a bird watching club whose logs were posted online.

This becomes weirder when I discover an online video game that had my family name as a major part of it (the land of...); at first, I dismissed this and then after a few years I went back and read about the factious game's people - their fighting style (which got my attention), their politics and such. Another coincidence in my life, that is until I began to put the pieces together - ancient Sumer.

I know that there was royalty in my family at some point; even in Europe. With all the things in my life that conventional logic cannot explain (weirdness), my life overall and what others have said to me - I cannot help but wonder if the weirdness is part of this bloodline past.

My family name is not common at all; either in Croatia or in the land where ancient Sumer once was. I did screenshots of the above said supporting material; good thing as it appears it is slowly fading away (online); once I "accepted" (within) what I was seeing. Does this mean anything to me or anyone - I would say not because who am I but another.

Despite all that has been made known to me (by "those others" and myself), all that I have witnessed and everything overall - I still have a difficult time accepting any of this; some here in this forum can all too well confirm this about me (left/right brain woo woo stuff). Readers of my words can conclude for themselves - if they so choose.

    *POST EDIT*

I was born and live in the land known as Canada; I am a permanent resident by way of birthright.

I will add mine in here. Starting with the husband I am almost through a divorce with after 38 years of marriage, then following with our daughter and just why we might have gotten married. It helps that I have clear recall of a number of past lives, and that my sister did in depth research for my side of the family.

Husband.... last name Pshevlozky, Americanized from Prezchlovzki (I think I may have it correct however it used Russian Characters in the original name)
    1. My husband has an old locked of his grandfather, head of the Russian Tzar's army and the locket photo is a spitting image of him (I mean EXACTLY like he looks)
    2. In 1350, the story goes, that 2 Polish brothers distinguished themselves in battle and the then Tzar rewarded them by making them head of the Tzar's army, the this title and office continued through the bloodline.
    3. Almost his entire bloodline on his father's side was dragged from their ancestral home on red square (where generations lived together in something that looks like a Hyatt hotel across from the Tzar's old palace)in the Russian Revolution. They were all dragged out of the house and shot while my husband's father (who was 7 years old) was left alive and taken to be raised in a orphanage. When he grew up this man became a good soldier and was directly involved in the massacre of 15,000,000 Ukranians.
    4. My husband spent me out of house and home and would not cease to stop living like a king, which is why I am now a pauper and why I am ending the marriage. He was spending $10,000 per month on restaurants, for example. I just could not make enough money to keep up with his spending habits. I have always wondered if he lived like this because he had been royalty in his last life.
Here is a photo of his ancestral home (I think it is the building on the Left in the photo)

    My Lineage
    1) My Dad was from a long line of Celtic people living in the Ukraine in the Carpathian Mountains. His history includes men who fought with the Cosaks to remove Genghis Khan and the Mongol Hordes from Western European lands. I have almond eyes that look suspiciously Eurasion... and I have always thought somewhere my background on his side there was Mongol blood by rape. His mom was apparently a Gypsy who had developed psychic gifts. My Dad HATED (!!!) everything Russian because of the 15,000,000 Ukranians slaughtered in the genocide that occurred when the USSR took over the Ukraine by force. His parents were part of an underground railroad station receiving Ukranian refugees into the New York area and he had heard many awful stories about all of this as a young boy directly from survivors. Here is a picture of typical Carpathian Ukranians

My mother's side of the family is interesting. Her dad had the last name Lowe and he survived the potato famine by shipping to America on a steamer as a 13 year old boy. Once in the America he made his way across the country and laying brick, finally settling in Idaho, where all the old brick town and city buildings all over the state were made by him and his crew. The Lowes were the only Scottish clan to fight with the Irish and when they lost the war all the Lowe lands and the right to wear their plaid colors was taken from them. I learned a few years ago the he was the Grand Pupa in the Masons for the Western US (scary huh?) He played bagpipes like no one I've ever heard. Here is a photo of one of the city halls built by my Grandpa:

My maternal Grandma had interesting bloodlines. In her background was Erythmey Foster, who came through Oregon in a covered wagon. She my great Grandfather for love, and as a result was disowned and erased from her family's bible. In her background are clearly traceable bloodlines to both Lakota Suix, and to an Illuminati bloodline which includes Charlemagne, and before him Enoch, and before him Hermes... all the way back to something called the 'Ovum of the Pleiades'. I have very developed psychic abilities and I have wondered if this is due to this bloodline. I have many, many memories of being killed and tortured repeatedly in the inquisitions during many lifetimes, as well as being a healer in both Native American villages, and in ancient Inca Villages.
    Lakota Suix Woman:

    So, in summary, I have
    1. Celtic roots (from Scotland and the Carpathina Mountains)
    2. Illuminati roots from Egypt (back to the Ovum of the Pleiades)
    3. Native American Lakota Suix

I am a glorious MUT and everything I overcome and become free of also frees up all these bloodlines (I like to think)

Aha! Harald the hard ruler is my favourite Norse king.
He was the genuine article too.

So far, I see a large representation of English and Irish, which is to be expected because their are alot of responses from people who live in US, Australia, New Zealand. I was not surprised by the amount of Native American mixes either. I am disappointed that besides me, there not any south east Asia mixes, there is one other Pacific Islander though. I think I recall a few middle easterners. I think Africans and Asians are under represented here. Maybe they just haven't commented?

I believe that our Dna is carrying bits and pieces of our Ancestors, not just our physical appearance and diseases we might be prone to, but more than that. Like Morgaine's feelings toward Ireland, or Lord Sidious's honeryness. I am delighted to know others here are proud of their mixed heritage, like I am. Thanks to all!

Yes, I think they just haven't commented yet. But if you take a detailed look, a lot of us do have some bits and pieces coming from Africa or the Middle East.

Anyway, I believe Egypt was in Africa, right? lol

Yes, mixed and proud. I'm probably a lot more mongrel than I have had the privilege to find out.

The first time I heard about anything other than Macedonian in my family background, I was like "what the hell were my ancestors thinking!?"

You soon grow out of it. I can't stop thinking about it now

Oh, btw, those 'feelings' you mentioned... I am immensely drawn to Africa. I dunno why. Its been that way, like, since forever.

Yes, I know Egypt is in Africa silly! I meant black people as a race. Also, I do not see Mexico, Central America or South America mentioned Here.
My whole life I have been asked "What are You?" by people I meet. I have been asked if I was: Native American, mexican, cuban, puerto rican, black mixed, Japanese, ect. My son was recently asked by a Saudi Arabian Officer, if he was Saudi. (by the way we don't even have brown eyes just a slight olive complexion and medium brown hair)

I have always been drawn to Hawaii and I am mistakened for a local there, lol.

This is one of my ancestors, A covenanter Martyred here in Scotland for speaking against the King in 1666, Totured and Executed in the streets of Edinburgh.

He was a bit of a poet also, and made his speach on the gallows,

Again Hugh MacKail appeared before the men with the power of Pilate, and they in Pilate weakness condemned him to die at the Mercat Cross of Edinburgh. But he who lived in the power of a deeper death, and had the sentence of it in himself, was borne with shining face down to the Tolbooth through the large crowds who openly wept as he passed. ‘Trust in God,’ he called to them, ‘Trust in God!’ Getting a fleeting glimpse of a well-known friend, he shouted in ecstasy, ‘How good is the news! Four days now until I see Jesus!’ In prison a merry thrill of joy was on him, making him humorous in serious hours. Someone asking him how his crushed leg was faring; he smilingly replied that the fear of his neck was making him forget his leg. And he averred that he was less cumbered about dying than he had often been about preaching a sermon! His old minister-father came to see him, and they strengthened and comforted each other in the love of the Father and the Son.

The night before his execution he went to rest at about eleven o’clock, and his doctor-cousin, Matthew MacKail, lay by him. Doctor Matthew had gone to Archbishop Sharp for help, but ‘the Judas in the Church’ had not forgotten, and his answer was, ‘I can do nothing.’ To this the doctor replied, ‘You mean, "I will do nothing."‘ Hugh was astir by five o’clock and awoke John Wodrow, the Glasgow merchant, who, with several other Covenanters, was to die beside him ‘Up, John,’ he said, smiling, ‘you and I do not look like men about to be hanged, seeing we lie so long.’ But, as one having no fellowship with the throne of iniquity, earnestly he prayed, ‘Lord, we come to thy throne, a place we hitherto have not been acquainted with. Earthly kings’ thrones have advocates against poor men, but thy throne has Jesus Christ an Advocate for us. Our prayer this day is not to be free from death, but that we may witness before many witnesses a good confession.’ His prayer was answered abundantly, and they who were seen in the weakness and scandal of the Cross showed forth the power of His resurrection.
