Default Irish pensioner dies from 'spontaneous combustion'

Just found this on News.com - I haven't seen a SHC reorts for years...

BAFFLED coroner rules 76-year-old man who burned to death inside his own died as a result of "spontaneous combustion".
Michael Faherty, of Ballybane, Ireland was found lying on his back close to an open fireplace. But forensic investigators found that fire did not cause his death.

The Daily Mail reported there was no trace of an accelerant such as petrol and nothing to suggest Mr Faherty had met with foul play.

While the pensioner’s body was totally destroyed by fire, it had not spread and the only minor damage in the lounge room where he died was to the ceiling above him and the floor beneath him.

Coroner Ciaran McLoughlin said he had consulted medical textbooks and carried out research in an attempt to find an explanation for Mr Faherty’s death.

"This fire was thoroughly investigated and I'm left with the conclusion that this fits into the category of spontaneous human combustion, for which there is no adequate explanation," Dr McLoughlin said.

The term spontaneous human combustion (SHC) describes alleged cases of the burning of a living human body without an apparent external source of ignition.

Several unexplained cases are reported around the world each year, but experts are divided as to whether the human body can actually burst into flames.

If I had the ability to spontaneously combust I would definitely use it when close to dying! It really would save a LOT of hassles for everyone! I don't want a funeral and I definitely wouldn't want my useless hunk of meat body stuck in a $5.000 casket and put in a hole in the ground to rot. That seems quite barbaric to me. Hooray for spontaneous combustion!
