Some official finally telling it like we have been saying it on this thread:

    Quote

Emilio Carreno, director of the National Seismic Network of IGN. Photo: Europa Press TV

    SEISMIC CRISIS SPECIAL - 6/10/2011

The National Geographic Institute does not think it will produce a volcanic eruption in El Hierro.

The director of the National Seismic Network National Geographic Institute, Emilio Carreno, explained that if there were a submarine eruption ,''people may not even know ''of it occuring.''

    DIARIOELHIERRO.ES, writing (10/06/2011)
The National Geographic Institute has seen "no indication that there will be a volcanic eruption on the island of El Hierro after the earthquakes of recent days, but believes that it is an option that "can not be ruled out."

Speaking to Europa Press TV, the director of the National Seismic Network National Geographic Institute, Emilio Carreno, explained that if there were a rash "could be underwater," hence people may "not even be aware of its existence. "

In this vein, he added that since the National Geographic Institute in collaboration with the CSIC are studying "behavior patterns of other cases similar to El Hierro in other parts of the world."

Thus, stressed that the historical experience on the island reveals that at the end of the eighteenth century "there were a series of earthquakes felt by the population" but added that it is in doubt if at that time "there was a volcanic eruption."

Nevertheless the expert considered that in case there were a volcanic eruption in El Hierro, the consequences "would not be very worrisome" because it would be a "slow" process .

Finally, Carreno explained that currently "the level of the magnitudes of the earthquakes, does not exceed 2.8 degrees [average]," and stressed that the depth of these "remains stable."

These would be Hawaii (see: https://projectavalon.net/forum4/show...l=1#post323834), the recent eruption at the Anak Krakatau (see: https://projectavalon.net/forum4/show...l=1#post325414) as well as what's happened and happening in Iceland (see: http://www.clickgreen.org.uk/news/in...ano-katla.html).

There is also the Nabro volcano in Ethiopia which has some similarity to the Iceland volcanic environment.

    Town Council - 6/10/2011

The closure of the tunnel economically asphyxiating La Frontera led to a unanimous declaration of a state of emergency.

The City of La Frontera has just declared emergency, social and economic, after the resolution was passed unanimously by all political forces of the local corporation in an extraordinary plenary session held urgently on Thursday.

    DIARIOELHIERRO.ES, writing (10.6.2011. 21:21 pm)
The City of La Frontera has just declared a social and economic emergency, after the resolution passed unanimously by all political forces of the local corporation in an extraordinary plenary session held urgently on Thursday. The proposal was submitted by the Association Herreño Independent (AHI) and was approved unanimously.

Tunnel closure of Los Roquille, main route between Valverde and Frontera, shutting down the socio-economic development lifeline of this El Hierro region, has been one of the main points discussed during the plenary session.

In this regard, the mayor of La Frontera, David Cabrera de Leon, in his speech at the plenary session said that "there is no technical report required to maintain the tunnel closed to traffic The Roquille." Cabrera de Leon added that "the road to the summit is not safe for traffic and its users," he said.

For his part, Councillor PSC-PSOE, Carlos Andres Acosta, who was called to order twice during the plenary asking that the proposal be read by the secretary of the Corporation, called for "clarity" to the government group (AHI -PP) and its mayor, while requesting that the necessary explanations to ask from the Government of the Canary Islands before the end of the tunnel.

Acosta proposed, in this sense, submit a proposal "to hold accountable the promoters of the work and the construction company of the same and are the ones who explain how structural conditions was performed in Los Roquille tunnel," said the mayor.

Also, the mayor of Frontera Union (UF), Pedro Luis Casañas, criticized the "political use" of the situation and recalled that the situation faced by the residents of La Frontera due to this closure, "is not isolated, as are repeated from the tunnel opening, landslides on the slopes, the presence of stones in the road, falling within gumitado and even the fans of the same, something usual, "criticized Casañas.

For his part, Mayor David Cabrera de Leon, said that "the important thing is that this decision has been made with the consensus of all political forces," he said.

The mayor said that "with the declaration of emergency social and economic in the municipality, is to seek the cooperation of the institutions of higher rank as the Cabildo de El Hierro, Canary Islands Government and the State, to an exceptional situation occuring in the island and has particularly affected the municipality of Frontera and the economic decline that has been generated due to the closure of tunnel Roquille ", said the mayor.

    SEISMIC CRISIS SPECIAL - 6/10/2011
It is feared that an earthquake of magnitude 4 INDUCE DETACHMENTS

Technical studies are initiated to assess the reopening of the tunnel Roquille

The direction of the Civil Protection Plan Volcanic Risk of Canary Islands (Pevolca) wait for the results of studies of Geological and Mining Institute (IGME) and the Ministry of Public Works of the autonomous government on the structure of the tunnel, to assess the restoration of normalcy in the road.

    DIARIOELHIERRO.ES, writing (10/06/2011)
The direction of the Civil Protection Plan Volcanic Risk of Canary Islands (Pevolca) wait for the results of studies of Geological and Mining Institute (IGME) and the Ministry of Public Works of the autonomous government on the structure of the tunnel, to assess the restoration of normalcy in the road.

In this sense, through sub-delegation of the Government of Spain has requested a geotechnical study on the incidence of earthquakes in the outer slopes of Los Roquille tunnel and a technical report, which has already begun work the Department of Public Works, on the structure of the tunnel, to the Government of the Canaries in a statement.

In this sense the direction of the Civil Protection Plan will assess the information provided by these studies, which give information on the actual situation of the infrastructure and the outer slope, as well as the actions, if any, were necessary to ensure safety users.

The realization of these new reports is one of the decisions taken on Thursday at a workshop held at the Cabildo de El Hierro, also attended by the island authorities, the municipalities affected, the deputy of the Government, scientific Geological and Mining Institute and the National Geographic Institute of the Canary Islands technicians, in order to make possible the opening of this important means of communication for the Island

During the meeting, the National Geographic Institute scientists did not rule out the possibility that earthquakes can reach magnitude 4 on the Richter scale which could trigger new landslides in the area.

As you may recall, this tunnel was closed on September 27, by the direction of the Plan, the high risk of landslides in the area according to reports taken by the experts of the National Geographic Institute, Center for Scientific Research and Geological and Mining, with increasing frequency seismic intensity affecting the island of El Hierro since last July 17.

M ª José Blanco, next to Maria del Carmen Morales, during her last appearance before the media. Gelmert Finol / www.diarioelhierro.es.

    SEISMIC CRISIS SPECIAL - 6/10/2011
    According to the IGN

The depth of earthquakes is maintained at over 10 kilometers

Migration of seismic activity up, ''would be promptly communicated to the authorities because it could be one of the indications that something might be triggered in a relatively short period.''

    DIARIOELHIERRO.ES, writing (10/06/2011)
The earthquakes that are occurring on the island of El Hierro in the last days (between 1.5 and 3.8 magnitude on the Richter scale),have remained 'stable' so far in their depth location between 10 and 19 kilometers.

One of the clearest signs of a possible volcanic eruption of magma from depth would be the closer to the surface, the more likely to occur.

Indeed, this week, the director of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) in the Canary Islands, María José Blanco, during her appearance before the media in Valverde, said: "Migration of seismic activity up, would be communicated quickly to authorities because it could be one of the indications that something might be triggered in a relatively short period," she said.

However, Blanco said that "earthquakes located in the south of the island of El Hierro are maintaining the same rate of energy release."

As for earthquakes being felt, the director of IGN in the Canaries, María José Blanco, said that "many are not reflected as received because the population has made a seismic event as something ordinary and does not report it," she said.

However, Blanco qualified that, "although they report, often there is not enough information to make an assessment as to the number on the scale MS, which is what we use," she added.

Also, Maria Jose Blanco said that the distortion still have the same variation, "in the last week has been about 4 millimeters of deformation and, therefore, the strain accumulated since the beginning of the series, July 17, is in about 40 millimeters," she said.

The director of the Canary Islands IGN said that "earthquakes are still located at depths greater than 10 kilometers, which is what we have always said, and in the area of the sea of calm," she said.

25 EARTHQUAKES OF MORE THAN 3 DEGREES OF 1 TO 5 OCTOBER

Meanwhile, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN) collected by DAILY IRON, 1 to October 5 there have been a total of 25 earthquakes above magnitude 3 on the Richter scale (the largest of 3.7 degrees ) and 10 earthquakes of magnitude 3.

    SEISMIC CRISIS SPECIAL - 6/10/2011
    DUE TO EARTHQUAKES

The council works to reverse the tourist cancellations after the crisis

The president of the Cabildo, Alpidio Armas, acknowledges that there has been a decline in tourism and there have been some cancellations,''if the economic situation was bad, now is pretty bad,''he admitted.

    EUROPA PRESS, Valverde (10/06/2011)
The president of the Cabildo de El Hierro, Alpidio Armas, reported Thursday that the island Corporation is trying to "reverse" the tourism situation following the earthquake-volcanic crisis endured over the past few months causing some cancellations.
