Moonbase Alpha - Wild Conjecture

As a fan of the old Gerry Anderson Space 1999 I was idly looking around for a Moonbase Alpha login screen and found this massively multiplayer online game. The initial scenario is:

Your mission is to restore critical systems after a meteor strike cripples life support equipment.

Just suppose, for a minute,

• that some of the recent scuttlebutt about destruction of secret bases has some basis in reality.
• And allow the possibility that it wasn't a meteor strike that caused the damage.
• Would you consider using the internet gaming fraternity to propose solutions that might not be obvious?

I'm sure that more than just a quick scratch of the surface will show that this game has been online for a while now, and almost certainly before the events referred to above. But where might we go, thinking about the implications of a game of "what if ..."? does anyone smell smoke?
