You may need medical attention and get something for acid reflux. You have to be careful because you can do real damage to your esophagus.

Oh, and avoid acidic foods which includes milk.

You might have a hyatus hernia Eric Charles that can cause reflux. Not nice at all.
Suggest you try antiacid medications e.g Gaviscon, Renes etc BUT if it doesn't go within the next day or two OR it gets worse you should go see your Doc.
I hope you feel better soon

I had this a few months back, you can get an over-the-counter pill -Histamine Receptor Antagonists that work
very well in the short term. And even Bi-carbonate of Soda mixed with water is great. But Doctor if it persists.

You could be like me and have a wheat intolerance. Both pizza and beer are huge no no's for me. The acid usually comes up while I'm sleeping, burns my throat and goes into my lungs. No fun and can cause Barrett's Esophagus (cancer) if not controlled. I've found that 1/4 tsp of baking soda, a Benadryl and sleeping sitting up will get me through the night. But avoiding wheat, barley and malt products are really my only solution.

Avoid milk, it will help at first, but may eventually prolong the situation as it is alkaline and will demand more acids in the stomach. The same goes for many alkaline substances that are, as Unifiied Serenity said, acidic in the end. A few slices of raw potato might help. Also a spoonful of mashed lingonberry without any sugar may ease the situation.

    Try eating an apple!

As simple as this sounds, apples absorb excess acid and this results in gastric reflux, which can cause heartburn.

I would also recommend eating something with an alkaline content, such as peoto bismal and drink lots of water.

I hope this helps, heartburn is a horrible thing to have.

Oh man...I´ve been having this fu**ing strong heartburn for about a week as well.

As far as I know, the best medicine that´s not really aggressive for the body, is baking soda. It really works like a charm.

Milk actually makes things worse, because it will increase your blood acidity during its digestion.

    Cheers,

    Raf.

You ate a raw pizza? That sounds gross but I'm sure it didn't give you heartburn. You should be checked out, though, because persistent heartburn can be a symptom of something much less trivial, and heart attacks can often be mistaken for indigestion, so keep an eye on yourself :-)

You definitely need to avoid acidic foods and drinks (that includes all fizzy drinks; the carbon dioxide dissolved under pressure in the liquid acidifies the liquid, so all fizzy drinks are inherently acidic). Also avoid anything sugary, because the acidic dehydration of sugars is an exothermic reaction, meaning without the mucus lining which protects your stomach, you'll burn your oesophagus with a pain that you could mistake for continued heartburn.

Naturally you'll want to take a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in water to combat excess stomach acid, but that in itself very often doesn't calm down the pain of heartburn because you will have acid burns around the base of your oesophagus. You can make this feel better by making a paste of cornflour and water (until it's the consistency of drinking yoghurt) and adding a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate to that. When you swallow that, it will coat the oesophagus and hold the soothing property of the sodium bicarbonate in place for a longer time and therefore calm the gastro-oesophageal junction down in a much more beneficial way (sodium bicarbonate in water obviously just washes straight through).

    Hope this helps

Thumbs up Re: Anyone with homemade remedy for wicked heartburn

I consider myself to be heartburn king Eric C, that is why I am giving you these tips, and I tend to do the same as you too in terms of routine, lots of coffee, and nothing to absorb it so it sits and mixes with the gastric juices. I would definitely recommend you also eat something to start your day as the stress levels also tend to exacerbate gastric problems and it could get worse like ulcers etc. I find a few slices of brown wholesome bread or a croissant can help, thought croissants and other things like muffins tend to be a bit oily.

You might want to get a check up if the problem persists - same for you too, RMorgan

Smoking and coffee add to heartburn. You could get some charcoal tabs, drink water, don't over eat, eat smaller meals, and avoid soft drinks. I'd put you on a pretty bland diet for a while, and add to it item by item to see if you react worse to one thing or another. Acidic stuff is definitely out, but you'd be surprised what can get to you like iceburg lettuce. Your Gall bladder can also play into stomach upset and fried foods and fats upset an irritated Gall bladder, but there are some really good gall bladder cleanses. Again, do be careful because you don't want to hurt your esophagus.

I did a quick google and found:

    Heartburn triggers

You may already know about some of the many triggers that can cause heartburn:

Going to bed or laying down soon after eating
    Drinking alcohol
    Smoking cigarettes
Indulging in fatty or spicy foods
Eating certain fruits and vegetables like citrus, tomatoes, and onions
Drinking soda, coffee, and other carbonated or caffeinated beverages
And yes, even eating chocolate and mints

Sometimes healthy choices like a good diet and regular exercise can help you avoid the usual symptoms of heartburn. But there is another cause of heartburn you might not think about as often, and it's called stress. This is a not-so-obvious factor of heartburn that can sneak up on you. Prevacid heartburn info

I don't recommend getting hooked on heartburn medicine, but find out what's causing it and deal with that not the symptoms.

20 Pain Cures You Can Find In Your Kitchen

    Heal heartburn with cider vinegar

Sip 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with 8 ounces of water before every meal, and experts say
you could shut down painful bouts of heartburn in as little as 24 hours. “Cider vinegar is rich in malic
and tartaric acids, powerful digestive aids that speed the breakdown of fats and proteins so your
stomach can empty quickly, before food washes up into the esophagus, triggering heartburn pain,”
explains Joseph Brasco, M.D., a gastroenterologist at the Center for Colon and Digestive Diseases in
    Huntsville, AL.

Wow that's really interesting! It feels so counter-intuitive to take something acidic like vinegar to deal with heartburn, but the explanation sounds reasonable enough :D

I've heard about this, never tried it. It is worth a try to get the food moving out.
