School and mediocre school teachers used to be very valuable in the past, when the used to be practically the single source of knowledge.

Now, with the internet, the whole school system should be reinvented. The fact is that a kid doesn´t need them to learn anymore.

For example, if a kid loves drawing, he can now learn almost everything about it on the internet, for free. There are tons of materials on drawing techniques, styles, materials and all these kind of things available. The internet is a blessed shortcut for learning. Once a kid finds out what he really likes, he doesn´t need to swallow all that bull**** anymore.

    This is a great thing.

There´s a big chance that, in the near future, there will be no physical schools and classrooms anymore. A kid will soon be able to educate himself from home, choosing only to learn what he really wants, making his own curriculum and with a worldwide teaching support and help.

I´ve done it all. Gone to school, got a bachelor and masters degrees. However, the most important things I´ve learned were from simple observation and from the internet.

I used to be like that kid...I couldn´t stand school...However, I had found a way to adapt. I didn´t care about grades; I just studied enough to pass, so I could have more free time to do what I really liked to do.

    Cheers,

    Raf.

Count me a stick in the mud, but it's obvious to me that while the kid in the video may not like school and see an indoctrination happening, they also did not avail themselves to learn how to follow grammar rules and spelling. If I were going to put out a video for everyone to see, I would know when to use their vs. they're and other simple errors of verb tense the young adult made. I found it hard to watch each card slowly go by and it was all the more irritating when their grammar was so terrible and they are ranting against school.

Teachers do not even care anymore about grammar. I've seen some of my children's papers come home with terrible mistakes which were not corrected in public school, while the two in Catholic school are not allowed to get away with such mistakes. No wonder so many students have to go through remedial education in college just to come up to acceptable standards. Its one thing to make mistakes in online chat or simple forums, but when you are going to put out a video or give a speech, at least do so with some forethought.

Ok, I'll crawl back under my rock.

Call me another stick in the mud. I find to terrible grammar and spelling painful to behold. It is a distraction that I have to overcome because such quasi-illiteracy is a product of the schools and not an indication of the person and mind presenting.

I believe public presentation should be refined and proofread. It shows care about the message and not just an impulsive gush of idea. Instant gratification and poor patience skills are a symptom of the conditioning and programming of modern society. We are not well served by these traits.

That was incredibly heartwarming, thank you!

And so f***ing what if he's got some grammatical and spelling errors. He's 17 for Christ's sake! Let him be 17! :D At that age it wasn't much different for me and eventually I cleaned it all up on my own without much help from the education system. In the entire course of my school experience in this life I had about 3 inspiring teachers. That says quite a lot!

You can not, CAN NOT! expect a teen to be writing perfectly in the current education system which does not teach them to be passionately creative about what they are doing. If they aren't into it, man, they aren't into it. You don't force a round peg into a square hole, that's the whole problem with the education system!

omg, I'd be fired so fast if I were teaching in college and fellow professors made such impossible mistakes. I was priviledged to go to one of the best boarding schools in the nation. Everyone in my graduating class scored in the top 2% nationally on our ACT for English. We were grilled in grammar and spelling every week. We had to turn in an essay by noon every Saturday or lose permission to go anywhere on the weekend, and if we were going off campus for the weekend, we had to turn in our paper before we left the school. Let me give you an example of how we were grilled in English. We would be presented on Monday morning during English class (it did not matter if it was grammer, comp I or comp II we all had tests on Mondays) with ten sentences. We would have to identify the error in the sentence, circle it, cite the kind of error, and then write a proper sentence. Thus, when we finally sat down to take our SAT in English are we saw the sentences with five underlined words and all we had to do was identify the problem we sailed through the SAT English portion.

We were taught critical thinking, expressing our viewpoints and defending our positions. This video though was difficult to watch because of the presentation.

I still never excelled in spelling, and regularly missed all points there.
