Default 999 - So what IS the significance(or symbolism) of the number 9 anyway?

The number 9 keeps coming up over and over lately 9 this 9 that (99%). Then that political slogan of Herman Cain and all that jazz. I get the feeling that there is a hidden message being said here.

Those that know, Know those that do not, simply don't get it.
Is the significance geometrical, arcane, coded speech etc?
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Why not now?

    G'day nomadguy,

Having toyed with number for decades, and bearing in mind that depending upon which culture, numbers system etc you are dealing with, you will get different interpretations, the most repeated theme that I can offer you is this..............completion, the end, end of cycle etc.

That's not much to offer I know, but this is something that we could ramble on for days over.

Now here for your possible enjoyment is John Lennon's Number 9 Dream.

On a significantly lower melodic note, here are The Beatles, with Revolution Number 9.

Did you get all the way through?............then this is for you

Although I have no knowledge about numerology I share your feeling and observation about the number 9 ...

District 9, The ninth gate, that puppet 9 that must save the world, I suspect there are 9 members in fellowship of the ring ....
    yep, sure enough: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/trivia

And when you watch movies there is lots and lots more about the number 9

In the movie "Planet 51" the secret base is nr. 9 (base could refer to a numerological base ... ?)

I should have kept a log but the number 9 appears many times in occult ways in lots of movies.

Well, Cain adds up to a 9.
9 is a very special number. It has little tricks of disappearing and appearing in formulaic ways. It also represents the end of a cycle, completion.

hmm, your all on to it. This goes way way back to researchers of the past such as Robert Fludd. http://www.synaptic.ch/infoliths/textes/arsmem.htm
    "The Fourth Circle

This circle corresponds to the Tetrad, the number Four. Its color is blue, its primary symbols are the Four Elements, and its geometrical figure is the square. The flowers bordering the hedges are blue and four-petaled, and the four gazebos are blue. The first of these has red trim and is topped with the number 7 in a red square ; it bears the image of flames on the dome, and that of a roaring lion on the sides. The second has yellow trim and is topped with the number 8 in a yellow square ; it bears the images of the four winds blowing on the dome, and that of a man pouring water from a vase on the sides. The third is unrelieved blue and is topped with the number 9 in a blue square ; it bears the image of waves on the dome and those of a scorpion, a serpent and an eagle on the sides. The fourth has green trim and is topped with the number 10 in a green square ; it bears, on the dome, the image of the Earth, and that of an ox drawing a plow on the sides."

    anyway on a scientific note - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_9_element
    The Group 9 Elements

All along I am led to think this is involved with what we call "alchemy".

(Ouroborus, 9th dimensional geometry and the end and/or beginning of a cycle)
    "the 9th legion" etc.
    carry on ~

Just a thought about the "HIDE Project", 666 or 999, RFID/microchip. This is HIDE projects symbol
About "Health Care Reform - connected to RFID chipping the population
    See the 999s & 666s

from site "HIDE aims to become the preeminent catalyst for innovative policy solutions to emerging ethical problems in the area of surveillance technologies, especially where collaboration among national and international agencies, communities, businesses, and NGOs is crucial."
I still think the significance of the numbers can be summarized in one word: enslavement
    Please do the research

A road that must be explored, by most. There is something there. There is nothing there. Both are true. Both are not.

Am wondering about DNA and the nines... Is this true for example "the Double helix in Human DNA is proof that the number 9 is the beginning of the fractal spiral relative to our own life existence"..? Perhaps there are more secrets to be revealed what these 999s are all about. Interesting..

Thank you. I used to drive myself nuts with inner dialogue like that, while mustering up the courage to call my Gurdjieff guru for an appointment and discuss all this with him. The enneagram was the Gurdjieff main mystery symbol, and when in 1983 I discovered that the Baha'is were using the nine pointed star and nine member assemblies I thought i had found the logical answers to the entire universe, of which earth was the center...the New Earth.
And the New Earth government would be a nine member council, made up of five woman and four men...with identical tiers down to the smallest village communities.
Do I still believe that? Yes, and no. No, because I decided the intensity was all wrong, just like the old man said.
Can little me make a difference? Yes and no. Both are true.
Bagdad was built originally in the shape of the nine-pointed star. A bit of trivia.

This site has some interesting facts about the number nine.

    Here are some snippets:

The magic square using the first nine numbers is associated to the planet Saturn and has for sum 15. Sometimes, it is also called the "square of Solomon".

    4 9 2
    3 5 7
    8 1 6

    R. Allendy speaks about the curious arithmetical properties of the nine which gives it a very particular character because of the use of our decimal notation system. In another numerical notation system they would cease to exist: the difference between an unspecified number and the number formed by the inversion of its digits is always a multiple of 9 - example: between 26 and 62, the difference is 36, multiple of 9; the multiples of 9 are always composed of digits where the sum (once reduced) is equal to 9; the product 123456789 x 9 gives 9 times the digit 1 in the answer (1111111101). Concerning this last property, Elisabeth Haich mentiones the next calculations:

    0 x 9 + 1 = 1
    1 x 9 + 2 = 11
    12 x 9 + 3 = 111
    123 x 9 + 4 = 1111
    1234 x 9 + 5 = 11111
    12345 x 9 + 6 = 111111
    123456 x 9 + 7 = 1111111
    1234567 x 9 + 8 = 11111111
    12345678 x 9 + 9 = 111111111
    123456789 x 9 + 10 = 1111111111
