750 African Greys die on Durban flight

Durban - More than 750 African Grey parrots worth about R2m died on a flight from Johannesburg to Durban.

The news has caused shock waves among conservationists, bird breeders and those involved in the aviation industry. The parrots died on December 24 on a flight operated by 1time.

Dr Steve Boyes, director of the organisation World Parrot Trust Africa, said steps should be taken to ensure that something like this never happens again.

The parrots were part of an order of 1 650 adult African Greys which were caught in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to be sold to South African breeders.

Ben Moodie, a well-respected Boksburg lawyer, alleges the birds were to be imported for his business Iceland Industrial Projects. He said he was only informed of the birds' fate on December 29.

"At the OR Tambo quarantine the birds were fine and I was informed that on arrival at King Shaka they were dead. I can understand a few casualties along the route, it happens. (But) this doesn't gel and I can only satisfy myself if they show me the carcasses," a distraught Moodie told The Witness.

Altogether 800 of these parrots were imported to South Africa in November. A further 850 are still being held in the DRC, ready to be brought to South Africa.

Pelicans turn up sick, dead off Jacksonville coast

    By JUSTIN SACHAROFF

    The Times-Union

Hundreds of Eastern brown pelicans, some with missing wings and frostbite, have been injured or killed in the St. Johns River the past couple of weeks in the Mayport area.

The exact reason is unknown but the cold weather could have caused hypothermia when the birds landed in the water. The pelicans have been losing a protective coating they have on their body to shield their feathers from becoming saturated by water.

Cindy Mosling, co-founder of the Bird Emergency Aid and Kare Sanctuary on Big Talbot Island, thinks chemicals in the water could be the culprit.
Mosling and her team, which consists of her husband and their only employee, Jose Gutierrez, have been capturing the sick birds for a more than a week when they fly to an open feeding area at their facility.

They spot the weak ones and bring them in to be cleaned, warmed and fed.

The sanctuary, known as BEAKS, has about 20 sick pelicans huddled inside a tentlike heated room that are being cared for as more injured pelicans show up.
Without their protective coating, Mosling said the pelicans have no shield from the cold water.
“How would you feel if someone put a wet blanket over you and made you sit outside in the cold?” she said.

Mosling has seen at least 20 dead pelicans so far. Karen Parker of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said 15 pelicans were found dead Sunday but couldn’t explain the reason.
Bobby Taylor, president of the Florida Open Beaches Foundation, said he hasn’t seen anything that would point to chemical contaminants in the water. But the cold could be taking its toll.
“This is the coldest water I’ve seen in awhile,” Taylor said.

Mosling said this has been happening to the birds for 30 years and cites aqueous film-forming foam as the root of the pelicans losing their protective coating.

USDA admits role in large bird kill

When birds began mysteriously falling from the sky a couple of weeks ago, some conspiratorial minds were convinced that the government was involved. One line of speculation held that the Pentagon was conducting a secret weapons experiment that killed the birds. Another theorized that the feds were covering up the air-befouling practices of a major player in agribusiness or the energy industry.

Now we know that the government did have a hand in at least one of the kills, though this revelation doesn't seem to involve sinister intrigue.

Yes, the Agriculture Department said Thursday, it did have a hand in the recent mass killing of starlings in South Dakota. According to the USDA, the birds were poisoned in Nebraska to help farmers who had complained about starling flocks defecating into livestock feed troughs. The birds dropped dead en masse after migrating north.

According to the Christian Science Monitor:

"The USDA's Wildlife Services Program, which contracts with farmers for bird control, said it used an avicide poison called DRC-1339 to cull a roost of 5,000 birds that were defecating on a farmer's cattle feed across the state line in Nebraska. But officials said the agency had nothing to do with large and dense recent bird kills in Arkansas and Louisiana.

"Nevertheless, the USDA's role in the South Dakota bird deaths puts a focus on a little-known government bird-control program that began in the 1960s under the name of Bye Bye Blackbird, which eventually became part of the USDA and was housed in the late '60s at a NASA facility. In 2009, USDA agents euthanized more than 4 million red-winged blackbirds, starlings, cowbirds, and grackles, primarily using pesticides that the government says are not harmful to pets or humans."

Surely this news will calm all the "aflockalypse" hysteria out there, right? Oh, who are we kidding: Any sign of federal involvement will be seized on as another layer in the elaborate cover-up. This is the Internet, after all

    Seals dying in
one of UKs biggest breeding grounds

Quote Dr Dave Thompson, marine scientist at the Sea Mammal Research Unit at St Andrews University, added: ‘If it was disease it would have been obvious by now.

‘It is possible there is something else happening at sea that we don’t know about.’
No-one knows what is causing these deaths, Does Anyone in the UK know if this is related to environmental issues, or is it another possible anomaly due to scalar weapons or the like??

Wonder if the Daily Mail will look into the possibility of this being a result of a HAARP weapon testing ?

Daily Mail love a wild story, however I doubt they are ready to go there without some strong lead from inside.

Agreed on the Daily Mail, or well any UK paper actually. This is really strange, of all things Seals? Definitely weird things going on right now with the birds, fish and seals. Any predictions on the next random bunch of animals to die strangely?

I'm hoping not, but gut instinct (first thing that came into my head) is penguins.

    Rotorua NZ

What killed hundreds of dead birds found on a Rotorua central city street? Nobody seems to know.

Rotorua mother Glyssa Bosworth was walking down Amohau St this week when her 1-year-old daughter pointed out a bird on the ground.

Then she saw a few more.

"I could smell something absolutely horrific," Miss Bosworth told The Daily Post.

so even more happening... wonder if this is linked to the solar activity of the last few weeks or something like Haarp?

Astral Walker on the video on the Enlightenment: Ego what is it? thread in spiritual section, talks about a massive band of magnetic energy coming in to the our area of the Cosmos, it is already creating climate change here and on all the planets.
Basically we, birds and animals are greatly affected by magnetism. The birds are more sensitive than us an probably flew in to a burst of this energy.

he talks a bout UFO's as well which may be true but the main thing is what the energy can do.
David Seraden also brilliant Coast to Coast talk talk on the thread as is Nassim Haramein further back

Seemingly this energy has the power to change DNA so David Wilcock may not be that far out.
More and more scientist are talking about this energy.
NASA producing picture of it. Its real.

Have a look on the thread.

Second year in a row :

Blackbirds have fallen dead from the sky in a central Arkansas town for the second New Year's Eve in a row.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Thousands of dead blackbirds rained down on a town in central Arkansas last New Year's Eve after revelers set off fireworks that spooked them from their roost, and officials were reporting a similar occurrence Saturday as 2012 approached.

Police in Beebe said dozens of blackbirds had fallen dead, prompting officers to ban residents from shooting fireworks Saturday night. It wasn't immediately clear if fireworks were again to blame, but authorities weren't taking a chance.

Prior to this New Year's Eve, Ballew said he wouldn't be surprised if people sit out on their front porches in case the winged creatures fall from the sky again.
