    Default Tips for saving foods

I thought it would be nice to post the tricks to save foods from going bad, ways to resurrect a recipe that was ruined, or substitutes for ingredients...

I just made a pineapple upsidedown cake with a cake mix that was "out of date' by adding 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the cake batter. It rose well in the oven and tastes great.

I stumbled upon a video recently that was very useful: about dehydration

I googled a link to more of these kind of video's:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=how%2...N&hl=en&tab=wv

Sort of do it yourself conservation of normal (non freeze fried) food ...

    Hello xbusymom

Any chance of trying a piece of your pineapple upsidedown cake? I am an old guy now and one of life's little pleasures is a piece of cake.

    Love and peace. JP

Hmmm... I could mail it to you but I don't know that it will hold up that well in transit... and it is disappearing pretty fast... sorry 'bout that...LOL

    but the recipe is...

cake mix (your choice of white or yellow)
    can or fresh crushed pineapple
    butter and brown sugar

make a layer of melted butter in the cake pan
sprinkle a layer of brown sugar
do the cake mix according to instructions and add to pan
    bake and cool
then flip onto platter and eat

thanks... those are great, and I have bookmarked several of the videos... but i was thinking more along the lines of fixing food goof-ups... since we already have a section for food storage

Just a word of caution...cake mixes, pancake mixes and brownie mixes that are outdated can form mold spores which have been known to make people sick and even die from it if they are allergic to molds.
