I will be the president of the local Farmer's Market this coming year..
It is revoltuionaly... revolving back to the freedom and health that humanity once had
and has forgotten exists.

My focus this year will be in community education through the farmers market
Not really sure what that will look like yet... still in the dreaming phase.

Excellent find Nenuphar! I love it...a "garden stimulus package". This should be viewed by all Avalonians.
(Local) Food sovereignty laws; community-based garden initiatives/CSA's; organic, heirloom seeds.
This is our future...and our children's future. Gardening and whole food as a subversive act...these are dark days indeed.
The (food) revolution is underway...and the movement is strong! Thanks again for the inspiring reminder.

That was so much fun! Here in the tiny trailer park I live in we have turned every spare scrap of soil or space into a garden. May I suggest the book 'Square Foot Gardening' by Mel Bartholomew. Maximum food production with minimum space. Covers all the basics for the first time gardener.

You can get an older copy on ebay for under $5, well worth the investment.

Lets keep it on this thread as I think we are on a good start with that intro video.

I contacted www.ruralroots.org the other day and will use some of their lovely colorful mini-posters to post our town with.. I wish I could show them to you..they are VERY nice! my first intent it to get the buzz words into everyones brain "buy Local" and "sustainable agriculture" as well as organic but thats been around for a long time. If you join their organization they will send you these book mark and post card size cards that you can pin up on billboards, put into s hopping bags.. they also have stickers I havent'seen yet that maybe can go on bumpers or in car windows. If you become a rual roots member they will send the stuff to you for cost of postage only!
I will stamp the cards with our farmers market info.

I am finding that people know what organic is but they dont really believe that it makes a difference in their health... so maybe we will do a Market seminar this summer on market days... serve ice tea and do a little chit chat about what organics means to health of the land and the body.... last year we did demonstrations of different things... like milking goats.

I hope to do much more when our house is done next year... like movie viewings on agriculture and organics etc with maybe pot luck or something to bring people together to talk.

realize that I live in a very small community.. only about 500 on a good day.. it might be alot different what I chose to do if I lived in or near a city.... unfortuantly we have no grange hall so things get done in people's homes.

I wrote a press release last week regarding the success of our Farmer's Market this past year... and it made the front page of our local paper this week!

The past president of the Market and I have brainstorming on what we can do to advertise and educate and yesterday we came up with the idea of Movie showings to start in March. There are a ton of movies on Netflix that address our food ciris/diet and agricultural issues, covering a mulitutd of angles.. So we thought if we had home viewings maybe with a potluck dinner and community memebers could get together to discuss these ideas it might get some folks motivated. Our community is a great source of grass fed meat, and yet most people here dont fully understand how superior a product it is... gardening is much harder here due to our short season but still people garden. They need to learn more about gardening in zone three and how their small gardens can feed a whole community.

If you have netflix you will want to look for the following. I will also be reviewing these movies on my website. there are MANY more but these are the ones I've written on so far. I am thinking that after we have a movie showing I will print up my reviews on flyers and at the next farmers market a flyer will go into the shopping bag for everyone who makes a purchase. so that will advertise not only the message of our intent but the social gatherings of the movie pot lucks also
