I think there are more important things to dwell on.

Like thinking about something positive.

Men are not brainwashed because they wear a suit and tie, they either wear a suit or tie because they have to dress this way for the office, or like to dress this way because they look smart or because they think it will impress the ladies. Its about conforming isnt it-how your dress?

However this video clearly shows how the initial person is transformed into somebody else entirely on the outside view? So in a sense it is a kind of brain-washing as it teaches that all women should look this good or look this way? Which is an impossible ideal we all start off with a blank canvas everyday, what we paint on that canvas is our own art, not somebody elses art? So at the end of the day, this video is merely pointing out that if you want to have a picasso painting as your own, you need a team of people to help you make the picasso painting? When really your inidividuality is you, that is the most beautiful thing in the world & i prefer what i make of my blank canvas not what a team of professional artists can put on my canvas? Of course i am not brainwashed by adverts like this, as most people know its unattainable to look this way in everyday life, who would want to? Its just a mask isnt? Un-less i want to take part in fancy dress everyday i will save that for the theatrical world. Its all drama,drama, drama lol, also im naturally beautiful, have pale english rose skin, big blue eyes with lots of different spectrms of blue in them, high cheekbones, a pert nose, and rosebud lips, this is called conventional beauty, however all faces are beautiful, & the more un-usual a face is the more beautiful it becomes in my eyes, lots of people are conventionally beautiful, however this video merely shows that if you are not, how easy it is to get stuck ito the idea that you can look this way x

It has little to do with differing views, Gary. I think they are healthy and allow all the sides of a topic to be revealed. I do, however, perceive a real soullessness in Western culture that is celebrated and pushed on impressionable minds, exploiting the native insecurities that are part of forming personalities. Infect the consciousness early and deep enough and you have a life long consumer of products especially designed to give temporary relief of the anxieties produced by this cultivated neurosis. This was the point of the OP. Your examples of a hare lip, full Muslim dress and the tooth man are disingenuous in their extreme presentation. It presents as truly insincere. That is booable.

It is the pushing and selling of what is the right way to look, to sell products that is distasteful and ugly. Men are victims of this as well as they are conditioned to want what can, in many cases, only be bought. Our whole society is brainwashed, but women are f*cked with in particular. Much of it owing to the unique hate of women by the sociopathic money changers.

You are missing the point entirely, sublimal messaging has control of all peoples mind through images, words, pictures, logos, slogans, this is the media industry and it effects all walks of life, baring the ones that are not in touch with media, explain this why are western women so caught up in how they look, but women from less populated areas with no media are not? I agree as pareting is your first lessons in life, where you get all your first lessons from before school and education. Take for instance the 3 yr old girl watching her mother consumed with her image in a mirror all the time, that girl also tends to grow up vain too lol! However media does have a lot to do with vanity & attaining impossible ideals & this video merely highlights how attaining impossible ideals changes yourself into something else entirely, so you are unregonisable to the person you were before in the mirror, thereby the media has your soul-as when you look into your eyes you see your soul, if your eyes no longer seem like yours, you no longer recognise your true being.

I liked to digress a little & say its mostly men this kind of video tends to offend as they dont like to admit that they too are brain-washed into beleiving that what is hot,attractive etc etc is based on lies, falisty , fakeness, not real?etc etc, that girl with the tons of make-up on the night before who looked hot, when they wake up to the next day, no longer seems as hot with all her make-up off-why? Or the girl who wears the big padded push-up bra to make her assets appear bigger to attract the opposite sex, what has been lost is her assets are not her breasts, but her intelligence, her wit, her charm, personality, individuality, what men hate to admit is this what really attracts a man, not the ideal women they see on the telly as she does not exist, she is a done-up, transformed version of herself, and her personality,wit,charm is no longer her stricking factor x

You state that you perceive real soullessness in Western Culture. I find that interesting. However I would love to learn which cultures of the world possess souls, however I will leave that in abeyance for another topic in a new thread.

Gary with this statement you are comparing the women in the video to an apple, well her blank canvas is the whole apple, until she is eaten by a load of makeup artists/hair stylists and photo shop, do you even watch how much messing went on i here looking this way? How long it must of took? They treat her like a blank canvas waiting to be painted on as that is their art, however your analogy that the apple is the whole and her core what was there before the people starting changing her is wrong it is the other way round, her whole apple was what was there before she allowed a load of people to start cutting her into segments, and then a core' x

Actually I do respect your views, however I should add a bit more background information.
I've actually enjoyed a debate in this topic before.
My background also includes photography and well as television media.
I primarily work with female models in corporate advertising. Everything that is done in the video you posted I also am skilled at.

Therefore, I am speaking from quite a few hands here.

Actually, this thread is part of the solution. Until a problem is perceived it cannot be addressed. I believe observation is the remedy. If I inform you that a booger is hanging out of your nose, do I really need to produce the solution for you as well? It should suffice that attention was called to the issue. At that point one is on their own to produce their own solution.

The main question was where to draw the line. Astrid never mentioned legislation, just pointed out something that is causing problems with self esteem in gullible kids...so what's wrong with that?
Where do you want to draw the line with people's right of expressing those kinds of concerns?
Anything will develop in time to a point where it becomes so extreme it deserves to be challenged, certainly the targeting of children by advertisers ought to be carefully monitored by anyone who wishes to protect the young.

Legislating against deceptive advertising practises would never work, nor would it be a desirable option, but exposing them
for what they are and their effect on society is a good start.

Whilst that sentiment is great, we teach children right from wrong, danger from safety, good moral groundings etc etc,we nuture them & show them how to become independent, however anything after that is upto the individual, as that is a part of what individuality is, if a child wants to spend all her money on clothing/make-up/hair appointments and nail appointments, that is upto her, i would say to that child ''its upto you what you waste your money on, just know that there are much better things to save for or spend on''. What we subject are children too is important growing up, hence parental guidance warnings etc! By teaching childrent to be different and not conform whilst in school, they become bullied for being different, so it is best to let a child grow up naturally without interference by our own beleifs x

My earlier point was in order to fix the "problem", to what ends were we prepared to go to, to effect a solution.

I could not agree more about legislation. Education, at home and from each other, is all that is required. Like drugs, which I believe should have no legal prohibitions, it takes a willing users to support any industry. Self love and healthy personalities are the real solution to societal dysfunction. This is why the home alone is insufficient and society and friends may need to provide the education. Too many homes are the very breeding ground for dysfunction.

The airwaves belong to the public and we fund their existence. That these same conduits are then sold to others that then resell them back to us through advertising and cable fees is pure buggery, with a kick instead of a kiss. This problem is part and parcel of governments gone wild. Why don't we address this societal problem? That would be because we are being dysfunctional in our homes and then bring that into the workplace and it spreads like a bad flu. Immune system response is called for here and that is ultimately to Know Thyself. From this simple but elusive self reflection all manner of healthy behavior results. Many are content to drug, or air brush psychological issues away. That is, apply enough cosmetic and the problem disappears..........for a few minutes.

This is a great example of "duality" and it is leaving soon. There is truth in most positions according to our own experiences but the days when we are necessarily caught up in it have passed. As the mother of four daughters and three sons, I know all about the pitfalls, about anorexia and the opposite. We have been caught up in a web of our own making and also been subjected to profit and advertising that dis-empowers everyone but especially women. We are leaving this state of powerlessness now, if we will allow it.

We are remembering that we have Divinity in our own right and can create a new Earth experience of our own making. See you on the other side of duality. Amen.
