Ulli skyped me from the beach house, she is going through Village addiction withdrawal, says there is no internet at her house, says it is one of the drawbacks of living in the tropics, and Night night ...

    Night night Ulli!

Let's all shove loving will and fierce intent at ulli's internet provider, hardware, software, and attitude and lots of serendipitous good luck for good measure ...

To comment on the thruneck style and also on your original comment, "Back when artists did things right...they got the note they wanted from the instruments and how the gear was set up.", I think that was best typified by Owsley "Bear" Stanley, Phil Lesh, and Jerry Garcia. Notwithstanding the Wall of Sound, Bear was an absolute genius and pioneered the Dead's sound, and took it places where no one else, with maybe the exception of Zappa, was going at the time. Their sound was primarily accomplished by using nothing other than McIntosh equipment, made in Binghapmton, NY. My favorite of Garcia's guitars was the Travis Bean, which he played form '74-'79. The Bean had a solid aluminum neck which ran straight through the entire body with the pickups located on the aluminum neck. I have always wanted one, but alas, I don't have several thousand dollars laying around.

Whether you dig the Dead or not, they put more deadication (slight pun intended) into the sound and technicality of their music than any band that I have studied, again, excepting Zappa, and possibly Floyd.
I just read about the Travis Bean guitars.

I can give you that sustain and make it completely tunable. Any tunable flavor you might want. Anything at all.

In a wood based solid body guitar.

I've been sitting on the design for over 15-17 years.

I don't make guitars, and I don't play them, but I know everything about how they work. On a level where the makers may have more practical experience....but I have the technical expertise in various other areas that allows me to say that, without fibbing or being even remotely wrong.

I've been thinking about going forth with that experiment and proving it to myself, for a long, long time.

I wasn't sure if a completely tunable guitar was wanted, so I just shelved it in the back o' me skull, along with 100's of other similar shelved projects and ideas.

A few friends are luthiers. I'd like to experiment with him (the one guy i'm thinking of), but not at those custom prices. I'd have to spend $100 on a used Chinese strat. which I nearly bought today..after reading this thread. I had to force myself to back off from taking on a fever project in the middle of many other red stickered projects (red sticker:rush, late, important, etc). Too many projects!!!

Here's one from the friend. The neck is also a Bird's eye laminate:

I like the 3 and 3 tuning peg arrangement. I don't like all of the pegs on one side, for bass or guitar. It is a deciding issue for me. I like that guitar. Has an ethereal look to it.

The distinctly different positions for the individual pegs (in all planes of measurment) make the anchor points of the strings not vibrate in sympathy with each other. Thus the tone invoked when picking is distinct and separate on any given note, which is probably desirable in a picking design.

I loved the shape of the stage building. Great proportions. The banners flying in the crowd was magical. The band was pretty good too.

"Your spirit sees the invisible, hears the silence, feels the darkness and restores all it touches to those who don't see. You are very special. Darkness will try and hide that so you forget. But your spirit still lives."

I appreciate, very much, the beauty of this message. But I'm dumbfounded it came through the person it did to me, and I'm not sure I understand it exactly.

    Hmmm.

Nora,Thank You for your welcome~but can I ask you though, really what do you mean by most have" pans-villagism" ?and maybe I'm not permitted to ask questions one on one,Please excuse me if that's the case, but that's such a curious thing to say...why should anyone have to put the brake on with just simple loving idea's?

    Hey kizzy,

I was welcoming you to the Village. I was being somewhat silly with my use of pan-villagism.... meaning the village is comprised of "a mixed bag" of loving, creative, intelligent and accepting souls.

    Love

    Nora

    We are all related
