Japanese scientist Mitsuyuki Ikeda from the Okayama Laboratory certainly doesn't believe in human waste.

He thinks that's perfectly good protein you're sending out to sea, and he's found a way to extract it, mix it with steak sauce and create a fecal feast fit for a king.

And despite the downside of having to add soya to bind it all together, Prof Ikeda thinks there's no reason why we shouldn't all tuck into his turd burgers.

Why would he even think of it, you might ask.

Because Tokyo Sewage asked him to. Tokyo is swimming in sewage mud, it seems, and there's only one way it can save itself and that's eat it.

Prof Ikeda found the mud was loaded with protein due to the high bacteria content. Combine it with reaction enhancer and put it in a magical machine called an "exploder" and artificial steak comes out the other end.

According to Digital Trends, it's 63 percent protein, 25 percent carbohydrates, 3 percent lipids and 9 percent minerals.

It's colored red so you don't know it's poo.

Prof Ikeda and his colleagues say it's the perfect solution for reducing waste and emissions from flatulent cows.

Which is understandable, because if someone told you that Whopper you just ate was actually made from yesterday's leftover feces, you'd probably be too traumatized to masticate meat ever again.

Of course, there's a hitch - besides the fact it's made from poo and soya. The cost of producing Prof Ikeda's stinky steaks at the moment is about "10 to 20 times" the price of carving it off a cow.

Leave it to the fast food chains to work out the economics. You can't argue the mass production side of the equation is already sorted...»

Theres plenty of sources of sustainable food around us. Its just the idea of it "Disgusts Us" and its never persued.

the ONLY food companies which should be able to NOT DISCLOSE what is in their product, are ones that revolve around taking unlikely, yet very avaliable and sustainable food sources and turning it into something that ends up on alot of peoples dinner plates.

I'm talking about NATURAL ONLY, NOTHING PROCESSED. But le-sigh it would be abused by someone and go horribly wrong

We used to eat insects a loooooooong time ago, and theres plenty of them now.

Went to a fish and chips place yesturday that gets all its produce from sustainable fish farms. Did you know, baby prawns can be eaten whole? Did you know they're damn yummy? Did you also know that just the look of them turned my partner off eating them entirely? I don't know much of the older generations (I spent a short time there last summer), but the younger ones will almost literally try "anything" & the more outrageous things seem to draw people to them ( I think it has to do with the dense population centers & striving for individuality in a sea of humanity) I see a logical approach to a problem in this article, one that "westerners" would never even consider, yet when boundaries (seem to be) just suggestions in a society, idea's like this will flourish

I think its a clever idea, though perhaps (apparently) economically unsound.

Are they voluntary or forced turds or just random floaters?

I wounder how many ppl know what that is and if we are already eating it without knowing ? indeed . This is nothing new it was developed many years ago by an English lab.

As I understand it, soon there will be food replicators that have been around for awhile (just not for us); and will soon be made available to us where anything you want to eat will be made from energy matter. It'll taste good, clean your teeth and become nutrious as it's digesting. You want steak - no cows will need to be slaughtered for it. Food stores and food producers won't like it, but WHO CARES! At least, no one will go hungry anymore.... Every household should have one....

I'm saying that there's no need for this kind of drastic and disgusting measure. It's rather insulting if you think about it.... Are the elites eating it, too? Probably not....(but they should).
