Default Ferocious torrent in Texas Panhandle

Texas today. After the tornadoes, here comes mounds of hail mixed up in a roaring torrent in the Texas panhandle. I thought the Bush family would have left Texas alone, seeing as it is their home ground.

Default Four *FEET* of Hail in Texas

Incredible. This during the same time period where we have just had 5 large earthquakes. Even Dutchsinse sounds blown away.

    Check it out.

    Pronews 7 Continuing Coverage

Extreme weather, including heavy hail and flooding, paralyzed parts of the Panhandle Wednesday evening, shutting down highways.

Highway 287, which was previously at a complete standstill, has resumed traffic slowly. Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) said crews will work throughout Thursday to remove ice buildup. That ice buildup is preventing proper drainage of water from the roadway, TxDOT said.

According to the TxDOT, Highway 136 at Fritch was closed in Hutchinson County because of flooding for a short amount of time. It was reopened late Wednesday.

Three to four feet of hail was reported near the Canadian River. Watch the video above from Storm Search 7 Storm Chaser Doug Blach. It was shot at Lahey Creek.

Storm Search 7 Chief Meteorologist Steve Kersh said the intense hail was something he had never before witnessed.

"It looked like soap suds," he said. "The storm was moving really slow and a combination of the pea-sized hail and four to six inches of rain created those conditions."

The Potter County Sheriff's Office confirmed motor vehicles were stuck in the ice and rain.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported extremely low visibilities in the area at the time of the storm. The main part of the heavy hail was reported four miles north of the Canadian River near the Fain Plant.

The rainfall affected drought-stricken Lake Meredith. As of 6:30 a.m., the lake's level rose half a foot from 29.84 feet to 30.35 feet.

I do believe we were warned long ago about wars, disease, pestilence, earthquakes and other extreme weather. I for one believe we are about to enter our most trying and brilliant time ever! We do live in the most interesting of times.

Y'know, I live in Calgary AB Canada. Despite all the "crazy" extreme weather across north america in the last 3 years or so -- none has ever come to this part. We get some nasty storms now and then, but we've always had those occasionally. The last 2 winters have been extremely mild (especially this year) with little turbulent weather, whereas much of the rest of Canada (and USA) has been pummeled with snow and storms in the winter and dry and deathly hot in the summer -- but not Alberta. Not at all ....

All I can say is that Alberta has massive Big Agra and Big Oil interests operating here (but ty
hen again so does Texas?) .... Maybe it's just nothing

Texas hail and mud drifts ‘waist-to-shoulder high’

A motorist trapped in the Texas hail storm (Photo credit: Amarillo/Potter/Randall Office of Emergency Manageme …Maintenance crews in the Texas Panhandle are working to clear roads after several inches of hail fell Thursday night. In some areas, the hail mixed with heavy levels of dust to create muddy drifts that were waist-to-shoulder high, according to the AP.

"It was crazy," National Weather Service Meteorologist Justyn Jackson said about the storm, which first hit Wednesday afternoon.

Potter County Sheriff Brian Thomas said that in rural areas, the hail mixed with rushing rainwater across dry land, which resulted in the mud and hail combination that accumulated to levels 2-to4-feet in some areas.

"There were just piles of hail," said Maribel Martinez with the Amarillo/Potter/Randall Office of Emergency Management. "Some of the cars were just buried in hail and people were trapped in their cars."

A National Weather Service (NWS) photo that first appeared on Facebook showed an emergency worker standing next to what was first reported as four feet of hail. The photo has a caption reading: "We received this photo from earlier this evening showing just how deep the hail was in northern Potter County. If you all have any hail images feel free to post here!"

At first, Facebook users were skeptical, with several calling the photo a fake. As one user wrote: "Faked! Why is the stuff discolored like it has road gravel in it. look in the background whats that wall?"

And not only is the photo really unusual but the caption seems to imply that four feet of actual hail fell, creating boulder-sized blocks of ice. But the NWS itself stepped in to explain how the phenomenon occurred.

A NWS meteorologist said the frozen water is beginning to slowly dissipate, which should help avoid any flash floods created by the melting hail.

"That's a good thing since it will take a few days for that hail to melt," said Andrew Moulton, an NWS meteorologist in Amarillo.

My goodness that's insane! I attend college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, which is pretty much in the dead center of the pan handle. There have been some pretty bad electrical storms the past couple of days with lightning strikes every couple of seconds for hours. I also get up really early in the mornings for classes, and every morning I see planes flying in formation creating those damn chemical trails. They always do it in the early mornings since the trails dissipate before the majority of people wake up. I have a sneaking suspicion that there is something to all of this, though I am still skeptical about it.
