@ulli- funny, years of self scrutiny eventually led to great triumphalism.

@JB- I had heard the natives sowed lentil with corn, so all my corn got lentils right there with it, but the round mound I was putting squash in will now have all three sown together and I will report (eventually) on the difference. My twenty ocra went in the front but it was too dang hot to do anymore until evening. I got me some decent hoses at the hardware store this morning, which will lead to better watering with less waste. The house we bought was once a nursery for exotic shrubbery, so we moved in with a shed full of old gardening implements. The hoses we dug out of the bushes still worked well enough, until I had a blow out yesterday, but other than replacing those every tool I've used was here when we moved in. The universe knew exactly where we should be, no doubt about it!

My farmer friend told me that lentils put nitrates back into the ground. He uses about a three or four year rotation (Canada - short seasons), planting peas every fourth year, and whatever grain or commodity he predicted was most valuable for any given year in between. He said his equipments works perfectly well with peas and at the end of the year he tills all the scrap back into the soil, and gets a better crop the next year.

3rd hand info - I'm not a farmer, but I do like gardening ;-)

No problem, Ulli, just going down memory lane. This is another of the movies I saw when I was 5 or 6, living in California in the early 70s. I've got a whole list of 'em and don't understand how my parents let me sit in front of the television like that watching this stuff. It's definitely to blame for why I am the way I am now.

We just watched this movie last night. I commented that the writers must have been slipped some inside info at the time (which is not unusual, since the film industry has often been used to pass on bits of disclosure).

From what I've gathered, I've "paid hell" in every incarnation for at least the last two thousand years time, so much so, as I've told you before, that when I started to figure out what's what the last time around, I committed suicide. Once the karma smoke cleared from that one, I was handed the purple pill, you know, the one labeled DGAF.

The heat is back for another three day visit. Maybe I'll pull out our old hand crank ice cream maker and invite the grandkids over for homemade ice cream...the adults, too...they can help crank.

mat-covered wetu, the Wampanoag word for house, and a bark-covered long house or nush wetu, meaning a house with three fire pits inside.

It's a bit like a manly tropical beer (due to the spiced rum notes) ... very interesting, I quite like it -(sorry for the giant picture! lol)
