    Good morning everybody!

The garden tomatoes are coming in. Here's what they were 3 weeks ago.

And now here they are. Nature is amazing, isn't it?

Hang in there, everyone who has garden babies who are still in process of producing veggies. Sending you good vibes for delicious, abundant harvests!

My brother Curtis dropped by this morning. We ate some sweet, juicy cantaloupe (from the store). Sunday dinner is cooking in the oven; I'll take it to Mom's later.

I'm playing with Tarot this morning. I got two new reference books yesterday.
I pulled a card for the village today.

The four of swords (Robin Wood deck) which means take a respite. Don't let the image throw you ... it's just a time of rest so you can come back refreshed. Rest and re-evaluate where you are. Seems right for a Sunday when many have the day off. Or those who are working today, try to catch some time for yourself.

    Love to all,
    JB

Hey villagers, hope everybody's having a wonderful day! Just dropping through really quick to say hi. Went for a wonderful run this morning out in the forest, then stopped at the sandy beach to enjoy the breeze coming off the water. There was an older gentleman sitting nearby staring out at all of the dog people by the water. For some reason, I felt drawn to him. When he walked by us, I said hello. He smiled and stopped to talk for a while. After we went through the banalities he began to open up to us, as people seem to do for some reason, telling us about his life, his relationships, how he had had so much and lost everything. Eventually the conversation got around to politics and the world, economics and then, ancient aliens. LOL

It's funny the people you meet. The ones who have had a chance to get out of the rat race and sit back and look around them to see what's going on. It seems for people in the olde generations, they have no one to talk to about these things so it is a blessing for them to be able to open up and share what they are learning about the deeper aspects of things. I felt honored to be able to listen to him, to let him open up and speak about such things.

It turns out he owns a shop where he sells t-shirts and he is interested in getting some of Sira and I's designs, so it might turn into a business relationship.

    Go figure.

You never know who you're going to meet or what's going to happen when you step out of the door in the morning.

    Blessings, villagers!

Oh, I took some pics yesterday of a great car show here in town, I'll post some up later for those who like classic cars! I'm out!

In any case, creativity is the best protection against depressions.
One would assume so, and yet why are so many creative-type personalities known for moodiness and depression?

After some investigation, my conclusion at this point is that a common factor in the prevalence of depression is organic in nature, typically spawned by chemical imbalances. Certainly, the average diet of folks these days is a contributor to the imbalance, but there are of course other environmental factors (like seasonal affect) that contribute to the pervasive dis-ease. One has only to look at the statistics on obesity increases to recognize that something is terribly wrong in this regard. Ironically, diet books regularly top best seller lists, but even though the immediate factors leading to depression may be organic, there is a still deeper root to the matter that needs to be addressed.

Undeniably, we live in a depressing culture, in that it is cut off from the heart & soul, being largely characterized by greed, envy, ignorance, fear, cut-throat competitiveness, hatred, and other bummer traits and tendencies. Temporary hits of pleasure (aquisitions, conquests, material advancement) only accentuate the habitual background suffering of a soul-less culture. The psychiatrist R.D. Laing once noted that mental disorders were an appropriate response to a mentally disordered culture, and he certainly makes a good point.

2500 years ago, Buddha diagnosed the human situation pretty accurately, when he noted that, regardless of whether things seem to be going pretty well, or not well at all, human life fundamentally is dissatisfying (dukkha). He then went on to provide a reason for that (grasping and aversion), and an antidote (the 8-Fold Path). Of course, there are all sorts of variations on such themes, but the main point is that all dis-ease is "spiritual" at the core, and therein lies the path to healing.

We are prone to depression here in the North West with the gray days. I find whether sun or gray D3 is a savior! That and staying busy + being outside!!!!

    Excellent quote there another Bob!
Ive just finished reading a few books on Buddhism, after a few times in hospital going back over the last few years i was lucky enough to meet a family who were Buddhist, they, one day brought me up a small statue for my bedside to keep me safe during one of my operations, i did like the way of the Buddhist, very calming.
"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." another quote from Buddha
    Thanks again Bob

One thing about the high which is induced by creativity...
once a person starts to compete with themselves then ego enters.
Like, 'Last weeks high was good but not good enough.'
And that then leads to addiction.
So I guess it depends what is understood by creativity.
Maybe a better word would be productivity...dealing with one's own world, no matter how mundane the task.

I don't want to go on about what a good time I'm having in case I make someone jealous.
On the other hand, sharing your joy could be contagious!

    Hiya Ulli!

I understand what you are getting at, and yet there is still something of the sense of dilemma when folks suggest "keeping busy and productive". It certainly might address some symptoms, but there is still an avoidance involved. The question is, what is being avoided, that we need to keep busy so as not to have to face it?

As an artist "who wasn't", I can totally see where Ulli is coming from. I find in myself I get an unimaginable flow of creativity, and the high comes with it is just as unimaginable and I often times have difficulty in "aiming it" at something truly productive, because I'm not sure where I should be aiming it. I have so many outlets available to me that I more often then not, get confused, and utilize that energy in a way that is less than optimal for the continuation of that creativity. I feel like I really live the effect Ulli is trying to get at.

However, that is just another challenge for me to be able to overcome -- something I must do to receive my gifts fully. I find I actually avoid the use of my gifts ... maybe deep down I feel unworthy ... seems likely. So both your points of view on this hit me in the face like a sack of hammers .. Thanks! hahaha!
