very touching, i'm sorry you lost your mom.

My mom and I hit a lot of turbulence in the road over the years, but became friends and had a good relationship.

A few years ago she sent me one of those little inspirational notes in a birthday card. While cleaning out some boxes, I found the note about a week before my birthday (smiled to myself). When I read your above post made me think of the message inside of the note thought I would share it with you.

    Daughter,

    today and always,
please know that I see you.
I see the path you've made
    that's all your own.
    I see the many unique
talents and gifts you have to share.
I see your brilliance, your enthusiasm,
    and how deeply you care
    and hurt sometimes.
    I see your hard-earned wisdom,
    your soft pure innocence,
    your courage and compassion,
    your unconditional goodness.
    I see what a difference
    you make in this world,
    and I hope you know
how very much I love you,
and how proud I'll always be
    to have a daughter
    as wonderful as you.

    Love

    Nora
Nora, thanks for sharing this beautiful poetry and description of you. For your Mom to share these thoughts of you... just blows me away. It's tender, nurturing, damn priceless! You are fortunate!

The above views on the counter cultural movement of the 60s may be humorous, but they actually demonstrate how successful the PTB were in marginalizing and neutering a developing consciousness and commual-based movement that actually had little to do with what is represented now as "Hippies". Instead, the real movement was like a stream that slipped beneath the surface and out of sight (no pun). I've been tracking it, and these days it resembles more the self-sufficient recluse movement of early Chinese Taoism, crossed with Native American Shamanism. You won't find it in the MSM, or even much in the so-called Alt. community (which is now heavily infested). There are still signs that I find here at this oasis we call Avalon, little streams that could eventually connect and join into a river of life to nourish the arid landscape of materialistic desperation and religious provincialism. That is the true revolution -- consciousness itself becoming fully self-aware in form.

I was lucky enough to be in San Francisco in the early to mid-60s, and was in awe of the potential I witnessed, only to be dismayed as I watched it get ripped off by the same forces that have fractured, divided, and pretty much conquered the current elements of an alternative possibility. It was never about drugs and sex and rock 'n roll, or anti-establishment politics. That was all a bunch of BS infused by very clever manipulation, to cast a huge smoke cloud (no pun) over a movement in consciousness that was indeed truly threatening, because if people were to awaken on a mass scale to their true identity and power as immortal spiritual beings, the whole oppressive architecture so carefully constructed over centuries by the dark ones would be relegated to a swift obsolescence.

It can still happen. It's in the hands of each one of us.

Thanks Astrid. Break was necessary. Those walls....... I had them. Hurdled them.
Energies were very strong (still are). It has been raining A LOT, which also affects the psyche.
    Finally the sun, she shines...
I feel for those who are experiencing drought.

Sadly I missed playing in the carefree 60's, instead this is what we boogied to a little later on:

    Oh man, those toit pants

And this was the slow song choice, when we innocently shuffled around the dance floor, hugging each other, not really understanding what the song meanings were. Not that its any clearer now

I miss MW too! Bring your guitar. Lets have a sing-along around the campfire! We need to be dancing on the lei lines, laughing at the silliness of it all.

I LOVED the chicken coop. I want (not need). My favourite colour too!

True dat. If only the irreverence for the flag and rebellion against war had brought out the true Age of Aquarius - true fellowship of humankind.

Oh yes.. the rain here, has been unrelenting and it has a way , if fall into that space,
of drawing out long forgotten sadness. I must say i have always loved winter for support it
brings to be introspective, it can be the most valuable time, and also the most miserable,
depending on how much you surrender to the process, that is natures way every year.
As i type this I'm looking out to the leafless trees, the Ash and the Silver Birch.
Still both standing strong and sacred, even though they are without the covering of their canopies.
A reminder that it's not only natural to withdraw energies within, it's imperative in order to weather
storms and re-emerge in spring with a new burst of growth.

Also a good reminder that everything is totally perfect.
The greatest privilege of a human life is to become a
midwife to the awakening of the Soul in another person.”

Reading the Acknowledgements thread and I was thinking it was nice to be reading about what was right around here at Avalon, rather than what was wrong. And I have been guilty myself of making the list of things wrong around here!...but then the story of my life was always making the wrong list and it has been a hard habit to break.

I welcome the energy in the gratitude and it has inspired me to check out some posts of those who have been thanked who I am not so familiar with.

Anyway, it brought to mind the story I had heard once about the Babemba tribe.

    Quote
“In the Babemba tribe of South Africa, when a person acts irresponsibly or unjustly, he is placed in the center of the village, alone and unfettered.

All work ceases, and every man, woman, and child in the village gathers in a large circle around the accused individual. Then each person in the tribe speaks to the accused, one at a time, each recalling the good things the person in the center of the circle has done in his lifetime.

Every incident, every experience that can be recalled with any detail and accuracy, is recounted. All his positive attributes, good deeds, strengths, and kindnesses are recited carefully and at length.

This tribal ceremony often lasts for several days. At the end,the tribal circle is broken, a joyous celebration takes place, and the person is symbolically and literally welcomed back into the tribe.” ~Original source unknown

    Missed your Spirals, Spiral,
    keep them coming...

I'm planning to build a spiral labyrinth in my back yard this spring,
that will have ceremonial uses. I can't wait to build it,
i might even incorporate a herb garden into it for all my medicinal plants.

A lot of good analysis here, Bob. I agree about the MSM...not ever has there been a hippie character written into a sitcom.
But their impact will still be lasting, it just takes longer to manifest such a culture change.
Right now things are a bit lop-sided, which means that soon everything will return to balance. Come on, man, life is freakin' awesome!!! We have the Internet; and who made all the software but aging hippies....

Astrid, this picture needs to go on the acknowledgement thread. There, I said it!
In fact, I would suggest that anyone who felt left out even if for a brief moment, should put up one of those homemade cartoons of themselves.
With a gold medal around their necks.

Thanks, Sister -- excellent example of enlightened behavior on a communal basis!

Praise is the cure for the emotional contraction at the core of most conflict and alienation.

I am so grateful for the Acknowledgement Thread, coming as it does at a very ripe moment.

    Blessings to all!

    Thanks another Bob.
But waking up is not the only thing that needs doing. There is work to be done,
and I call it 'surfing the waves' at the level of the individual and 'sailing the ship of Gaia' at the level of the collective.
It's actually work that can be fun as well.

Controlling one's mood swings at the level of the individual,
and weather control at the level of the collective.
And this term 'weather control' can even refer to restoring power to the people of India,
as it does to dispersing clouds in the mid Atlantic before they can become hurricanes
(as the one just east of Barbados right now)
    Please HELP!!!!
...by the way, thank you everyone for restoring sunshine to Costa Rica....
now THAT I have to call a JOB WELL DONE...and with such SWIFTNESS!!
    You guys are THE BEST.

Indeed, and herein lies a paradox: "waking up" implies the recognition that such awareness must be embodied, or incarnated, in the way we act and behave with each other in the world of space and time. That is what "functioning" is all about. Insight must be grounded in functioning, otherwise, it stays in the head, rather than making its way to the heart and gut.

At the same time, "waking up" also yields the recognition that "there is nothing to do", or more to the point, there is no doer. This is the difficult part of realization -- to discard the sense of doership, let go, and "let God". It's the very sense of personal doership that sabotages even profound "spiritual" experiences, where the mind adds a "me and mine" to the functioning, re-inforcing the sense of a separate and enduring self.

Real spiritual maturity begins to dawn when we are willing to question our most cherished beliefs, assumptions, and presumed identities. When our love of Truth is such that even our most closely held notions and concepts about the nature of ourselves and existence can be submitted to honest and probing inquiry then we become "available".

Until then, we typically drift along in a dreamy sense of un-inspected security, at the mercy of whatever conditioning filters are operative in the body/mind (based upon prior association and interpretation of perception). In Buddhism, for example, this is called The Wheel, and it spins us through innumerable dreamy births and deaths unceasingly until the fabric of the dream itself begins to wear thin, and then there is the possibility of Seeing.

Of course, in the dream there are worlds to be saved, people at war, all manner of catastrophes and delights, and an unlimited number of seeming advances and retreats, and the wheel keeps on spinning, and the Dreamer keeps dreaming, and sometimes we seem to float above our dream bodies into some subtler variation on the dream, and fly through dream tunnels into majestic and comforting realms of light and beauty, or into perpetual hell realms of misery and despair, but never once stopping to wonder:

    "Is this TRUE?"

Never once stopping to pull aside the curtain and unveil the Wizard at last, because the nature of Oz is so seductive, and those poppy fields are so very potent, and the last thing anybody really wants is to Awaken, despite all protests to the contrary, for to Awaken entails walking off that cliff and flinging oneself into the Unknown, and that is a terrifying prospect indeed, and so we remain asleep, cuddled up in the comfortable blankets of illusion, and somewhere in the remote distance there is a Call, but in our accumulated congestion of dreaminess it is so easy to dismiss, until one day the truth can no longer be ignored, and the sunlight just floods through our little bedroom windows, stripping all the blankets off and exposing our nakedness, and then we are really in for it!
