Default Earthships, sustainable building from earth, cartires and glass bottles

    http://www.dreamgreenhomes.com/plans/earthship.htm
Hi Avalonians, on the Mists of Avalon Forum is a great topic on ecological building. Hobbit homes in Wales, beautiful pictures too. One of the pioneers, designer of Earthships, is Michael Reynolds, an architect whose ideas were laughed at in the sixties. Look what enduring critics and slander can do to a man!
    Don't worry, be happy Tint.

    thread titled Earth Ships.
    Also mentioned here

I own two of Micheal Reynolds books, myself. also gave them to my daughter.

Like I said elsewhere, I think the man should get a Nobel Peace Prize.

These homes are beautiful ! Off the grid and all the systems" link" together rainfall and snowfall, drinking water, sink and shower, indoor garden to toilets to septic tanks with a window to let sunshine ( ultra violet) to quicken the process. The videos are great -the diverse architecture (I love how everything is rounded) and the homeowners comments. These people are in heaven with their natural surroundings outside Taos, New Mexico. The architect mr Reynolds says they have been built in every type of climate and he wants to put one on display in every major city of the world to show what can be done. I would think these homes would stand up to solar and seismic events quite easily. This is customized, luxurious, environmental living in a wide variety of sizes and materials.I got a warm tingley feeling inside while watching these. Thanks

If you can ever watch the full length movie about his ideas, "Garbage Warrior", you will see he and his group going to Indonesia, and helping/teaching people there how to build housing literally out of "what's left" in the streets.

Imagine a fund raiser to finance M. Reynolds and crew going to Haiti, to do the very same thing.

Anyone here good at fund raisers?

Recently we took photos of Earthship homes near Taos. No one was home at the time and we could not take the guided tour.

My daughter sent me an e-mail yesterday containing this link for the Haiti project: http://earthship.com/haiti-disaster-relief.html Video 2 shows a small dwelling completed with the help of Haitian volunteers. The group is returning in October to finalize services eg solar etc.

This is the kind of project that makes sense. Helping others to empower themselves. Hope they meet their fundraising goals.
