Default JUICING ~ Share tips, recipes, success stories, health benefits or ask ???'s

I have just started a juicing fast 4 days ago.....loving it but have many questions. After watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, it took me a few weeks to get motivated but I have jumped in to the deep end of the juice river and am feeling great.

If anyone has tips, recipes, success stories perhaps we could share them here.

I am trying to find a new juicer, my one is a cheapy on loan so anyone who has a juicer they love (or hate) please share.

I am trying to do a 60 day juice fast....so far I have cheated with a little juice of the barley , and the odd handful of seeds or nuts, but in 4 days I have lost 5 lbs. I plan on losing 50...the health benefits and energy boost are bonus!

hiya! i did a juice fast for a full week then onto juicing and salads then chicken or fish dinner with veg a month or so ago then crumbled back into old ways due to an all weekend birthday and also realised how inefficient my juicer was.. after much research this http://www.ukjuicers.com/matstone-6-in-1-juicer-ivory is the juice i want to get, single auger, barely oxidises the juice and leaves very dry pulp.. super efficient and reasonable price ... i felt buzzing when i was juicing and lost about 7 pounds, hardly any alcohol and no caffeine... thanks for reminding me to get back on the case!!

i did jason vales, juice master diet - can send u a pdf if u want it? in the end i just combined all the juices into one mega juice

all organic where poss: lime, apples, pineapple, cucumber, carrot, celery, beetroot, courgette
(sometimes), wheatgrass powder, spirulina powder, pea protein powder (i recommend), acidophilus, kale, spinach, water cress, alfalfa sprouts and celery... i think that was it... and i just ate the avocados, some nuts and bananas separately...

    good luck, is great
    OOB NOOB

    Earth Angel, kudos to you!

I have juiced off and on for many years, and have found it one of the best things I've ever done for my health.

I have a Braun juicer that's been a workhorse for nearly 15 years. I think it may be nearing the end though, and I'm looking at other juicers too.

Here's a page that explains the difference kinds of juicers:
    http://juicerrecipesnow.com/how-to-c...chine-for-you/

The Breville has a good reputation, and is the one used in the video series 100 day juice feast on youtube. Here's a link to day one.
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMsfPoF2PCE

It may be helpful to you, as you go along.

Good luck -- I'm with you!

thanks DBCD .... I am putting all the fruits and veggies you have mentioned but haven't added any powders yet....want to get some wheatgrass too.......so far i feel great but have to admit I have had beer every night......I feel like when I have gone through a whole day without food (as I type this my daughter is eating chips!).....at the end of the day I feel like I deserve a beer......sometimes I figure make major changes but some things why give them up when you know that's not a lifestyle change you are going to stick with......ie I know I love my beer on the weekend so I need to find a way of eating that gets me to a weight I am comfortable with while enjoying beers on the weekend.

I have an Omega Juicer and I love it. It is a single auger, slow speed juicer that does a good job extracting juice from a really wide variety of fruits and vegetables. It doesn't extract as much juice on hard vegetables, like carrots, as do the high speed smash and strain types, but it does a far far better job on things like tomatoes and softer things. It will also juice wheat grass. It is relatively (and by that I mean it's not a real pain) easy to clean up. It is a good all round juicer, but it's a little pricey. I've had it for a couple of years and I have to say it's been a workhorse for me.

I have to say that a mix of carrots and kale with a little ginger is one of my favorites. I don't know if anyone else does this or not, but I also like to juice alfalfa sprouts with carrots and kale.

Thanks Conchis......that is one of the juicers I am considering. I really like the look of the Vert 350 model , as you can drop big chunks in and don't have to use the plunger.
I am juicing so many things together at one time they are all starting to taste the same.....I think I am muddying the flavour with too many things at once....but I am trying to get as much leafy greens and then some carrots or parsnips and always some fruit to take the flavour up a little....I am not sure I am enjoying the ginger, I juiced alfalfa sprouts last night with a whole mess of other stuff. My juicer is not great but its doing the trick so far.

Thank you Marianne for those links......I guess $300 or $400 is not that much to spend if you think of the investment in your health which will quickly pay for itself with the money saved on pizza or dinners out, and if I really take to this as I am hoping I do, I can always purchase the other type eventually.....I have heard die hard juicers often have two or three different types to use depending on what they are making.

Our original $15 yard sale juicer broke, so we bought this one with a 10 year warranty after reading lots of reviews online. I believe the Breville models like Joe uses only have a 90 day warranty. Of course - you will have to spend more for the non-centrifugal juicers.

Some of our fav recipes are:

    4 apples
    3 carrots
    4 celery

    Joe's juice
    6 kale leaves
    1 cucumber
    4 celery
    2 apples
    1/2 lemon
    1" ginger

    Cabala
    5 lbs Carrots
    2 red Apples
    1 medium Beetroot
    2 green Apples
    1 whole Lemon
    2 yellow Apples

Some of my favorite everyday juice recipes:

    Morning Juice
    1 bunch celery stalks
    1 whole pineapple, peeled
    1-2 cucumbers (peel if waxed)

This is a good one for morning, somewhat sweet and provides good energy, but is light tasting too. This makes about a quart, and I sip it throughout the morning.

    Golden Enzyme Juice
    1 pineapple, peeled
5-6 carrots, scrubbed but not peeled
    1" slice of peeled ginger

Great if you have digestive trouble. Also great if you don't, it's delicious!

    Lemon Sherbet
    6 Golden Delicious apples
1 lemon, peeled (organic if possible)

Makes enough for a single small drink.
This one I adapted from a recipe on youtube, but don't recall the name. If anyone knows, I will credit them.

Earth Angel, it's true, when you consider your juicer is something you will use often, maybe daily, and it will last for years, $300-$400 is an investment.

Albativo, your juice recipes look great -- I will give them a try. Thanks.

    Good thread!!!

    Ingredients:
    2 Bananas
    4 oranges
    1 lemon
    1 grapefruit
    1 tea spoon of honey

You get around 800ml of juice ...
Or about 3 large American coffee cups...(each is 250ml at least in Europe)

I found that Banana is an awesome taste filler in any combo.

    Second formula is:

    1 banana
    1 cup of choc milk
    handful of dry:
    apricots,plums.

You can put powdered nuts in (walnut, peanut...)
Either buy it in powder or make it powder physically.

what is the good vegetable natural source of good protein for this mixes we`re talking about?
Exclude soy and anything connected with it...

Beren, I've found rice protein is a good alternative to soy. It is easier to digest.

I recently purchased a VRT 350HD & am very happy with it, its quiet and sounds like a horse eating when you feed it carrots (don't know why, but it always makes me smile,, I paid $400 to have someone chew my food for me! haha)

I've been pretty un-creative, sticking mostly with this juice recipe:

    6 kale leaves
    1 cucumber
    4 celery
    2 apples
    1/2 lemon
    1" ginger

or variants of that; I figured too much fruit would be very high in sugar so I have avoided fruit juice mixes (except for a couple of times just for a treat) is that incorrect?

I also shoot for the darkest green leafy veggies, though maybe my ideas are wrong here (LOTS of kale.. L O T S.... haha)

My dogs love the "pulp" that is left over, I've considered adding eggs to them and baking them on low temp for dog treats.

I am starting my juice fast today (birthday present to me!), Earth Angel is my inspiration!

    Happy Birthday Target

I have to admit I have juicer envy! I think that is the one I am going to get. Love the description of the horses eating carrots!

I agree Kale is amazing........I put a variety of leafy greens and add whatever else I want, tomatoes, parsnip, carrot, avocado (which it seems you CANT juice lol) peppers, and then add some apples or pineapple (really good) .....but I often fine the end result regardless of what I make and the various colours, is almost the same tasting.......I wish fruit was the way to lose weight! now they taste amazing.

Love this.......Kale, your new friend with benefits !

Kudos! I was inspired by the same vid and instead of buying a juicer (Have one in storage buried in a box somewhere in the storage space) I bought a Blendtec 4 inch blade blender. Thought Id get all the fiber as well. Doesnt work. The mean green drink in the blender fluffs up to at least a quart and is totally over run by the kale. Truly horrible. Could do 10 oz of juice but never a quart of terrible tasting green pudding.

The juicer I have - somewhere - is a Champion. Its footprint is huge and it weighs a ton to lug around in the kitchen (You juice at the edge of the sink with a bowl in the sink catching the fiberous stuff.) Anyway, it does the job and lasts forever. Juicing Celery is a pain as you have to keep cleaning it as the long fivers wrap around the screw and stop the machine.

If you want to consume kale but not juiced, you can cut it yp, put some olive oil on it, spread it out on a baking sheet in a hot oven for 10 minutes and PRESTO Kale chips! Delicious!

I was considering giving mine to the dog as well but thought he might 'explode' with delight, if you get my drift!

I can't see how it's bad for em, plus it's "economical", better than throwing it away

They seem excited at first and then drop off a bit, she only ate maybe half what I gave her before losing interest.

If you want to consume kale but not juiced, you can cut it yp, put some olive oil on it, spread it out on a baking sheet in a hot oven for 10 minutes and PRESTO Kale chips! Delicious!
    Good luck to you.
A big part of why I spent as much as I did on my juicer is that it doesn't heat the juice (as supposedly this robs a lot of nutrients) so while this may be tasty, I'm not so sure if it's the best method of consumption.
