Default The "official" New Year - Annual Celebration Date

    Hi All -

Happy (Western Colonized World) New Year! hahaha

Can we imagine a day where the planet actually agrees on a single date as the beginning of “the new year?” My Asian friends have a different date. My Pagan friends do as well and if I were forced to decide on a realistic “Globally accepted date” I would suggest two date ranges – June 21st ish through 25th ish and December 21st ish through 25th ish.

I once read that "the Satanic New Year" is January 13th and that was particularly spooky to me as that was my Dad's birthday! Freaky...

In fact - here's the list that shows the date - http://www.religioustolerance.org/ra_date.htm

WoW!!!! Look at that!, the specific page on this site is called ra_date.htm

I wonder what date the Luciferic New Year is celebrated? If anyone knows, please let me know... thanks.

Anyway, I am probably a "Pagan" at heart if anyone had to label me as anything -

So within those two "paganly derived" date ranges I noted above I would ask the experts to tell us precisely when the sun is up the longest from the perspective of the northern hemisphere and when the sun is up the longest from the perspective of the southern hemisphere and I would produce a world-wide television broadcast for which a special, giant copper coin was created where on one side of the coin we had the Southern Hemisphere written boldly on it and on the other side we had the Northern Hemisphere boldly written on it. Obviously my idea is that we hold a coin toss as I am firmly against hemispherical bias... but that's just me - apologies.

Then – I would hold a special drawing as to what date this “coin toss” would occur – I would handle this part as follows – I would do like they do in lotteries... I would have 365 balls labeled one through 365. Note, these lottery balls are like ping pong balls. The first date would have to be the date of a calendar we accept for pinning down this date – my recommendation is we seek the most ancient calendar we can agree upon existing that has an exact “beginning” date which the experts can associate to a date today. That day would be Lottery Ball # 1.

Now – if you have ever seen those lottery machines they have all these balls inside one giant sphere and there’s some sort of air flow pumped in where the balls are chaotically moving around within the sphere. So clearly there would be an honest generation of random process as to which ball might end up being the “chosen day” ball.

OK, so I am unsure as to how a lottery machine is triggered to produce a ball, but I assume it is triggered by pushing some button while all the balls are randomly bouncing all around. I would suggest we allow the medal winner from the latest Special Olympics to have the honor of pushing the button. Just an idea.

Now once we have this day as to when we will have the official coin toss – we make sure the entire planet agrees well enough to this idea. Of course there may be dissenters, but come on folks... either we end up with what we got now - a global civilization within which we have all sorts of individual culture's culturally derived “new years” dates where there is always folks who think their date is more special than another culture's OR – we all get together and emulate the human family we could one day grow into being and show ourselves we can rise above all this “differences” crap and symbolically draw the line by agreeing we create this globally accepted single date.

So now we have chosen the date the coin will be “flipped” and this process has been accepted well enough by enough of the planets governing organizations, religions and cultures... it is done in a way we have the very most integrity behind the effort. Enough of us agree the date should be pegged to heavenly bodies. And enough of us agree that it boils down to an either or situation based on the hemisphere and so we are well past the 100th monkey on this one and we now have the “Coin Toss Date” set.

Live, on TV world wide and which will live forever on YouTube and Google Video and Vimeo and on and on and on as long as we do not one day destroy ourselves or end up destroyed by some other civilization or some geophysical event.

So someone has to “flip” the coin and so I am unsure how that individual would be selected but i would suggest how that person is chosen is done in the very most random way as possible and that it be chosen from a list of volunteers gathered from throughout the globe.

Anyways, the day finally comes and we have the coin toss and if we have agreed it is either the Summer solstice or Winter solstice (based on one’s hemispherical point of view) then we have done the very best job we, as a global collective, can do to end up with that one single date.

I would be rooting that the one who ends up winning the random selection process to be the Official Coin Tosser would be a female – why? Look what a male driven society (at least over the last few thousand years) has done for our planet?

I would be rooting for the Southern Hemisphere too as look what the population dominated Northern Hemisphere has done for our lovely planet BUT!, I would fully accept however either of those two minor details ended up.

Anyways – then we could actually begin to celebrate (the next time the new date rolls around) a true, global celebration of a fairly selected single Official Date as to a Global New Year.

    just an idea from justoneman

Sometimes I think the best threads get zero thanks... (or am I just trying to convince myself?)
