Christine, I'll have to work my way through the threads you referenced to see what you're suggesting, but the idea of developing some teams for specific work on this is great. Would it be possible to set up a work space for us somewhere on Avalon?
Vivek, your suggestion is terrific. I wish I could volunteer but I don't have enough tech expertise to help out. I hope you find the people you need here, though, and I fully support whatever you initiate.
Gripreaper, are you suggesting we develop our own web? If you're meaning that at a cyber level, I wish I could help you but I don't have the expertise. A web at other levels, though ... that's a very interesting idea.
I'm seeing at least two or possibly three angles of approach that could make good use of the various skills and expertise of posters on this thread. There is work I can do to help - from a non-cyber angle - and being able to visualize how it all works would be very useful in that work. So, can anyone here answer the questions I asked in #208 on page 11, copied below? I apologize that I can't put in hundreds of hours of research just now - hopefully one of you already knows the simplified answers. Thank you if you can help me out.
@Doodah, #208
Exactly how does all this work?
How many "nets" are there? If we call the one we're accessing the Public Net, how many other nets exist? Does the military (and all the other militaries of the world) have their own separate net or nets?
If the whole electrical grid worldwide went down, how much of the various "nets" would be affected? I realize that portions of the electrical grid could be kept running by means of generators, solar, wind, etc. as long as those alternate installations still existed and until all the available gasoline for generators was depleted. And of course there are likely other more advanced ways of generating power that we don't know anything about.
If all the satellites went down, how much would be affected?
If all the cell towers went down, how much would be affected?
