A 15-month investigation by the Guardian and BBC Arabic reveals how retired US colonel James Steele, a veteran of American proxy wars in El Salvador and Nicaragua, played a key role in training and overseeing US-funded special police commandos who ran a network of torture centres in Iraq. Another special forces veteran, Colonel James Coffman, worked with Steele and reported directly to General David Petraeus, who had been sent into Iraq to organise the Iraqi security services

Soon after the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, now retired Colonel James Steele was in Baghdad as one of the White House's most important agents, sending back reports to Donald Rumsfeld and acting as the US defence secretary's personal envoy to Iraq's Special Police Commandos, whose intelligence-gathering activities he oversaw. Drawn mostly from violent Shia militia, the commandos developed a reputation for torture and later for their death-squad activities directed against the Sunni community.

People in the USA can't imagine the kinds of things that are actually happening in the middle east and elsewhere because of American (imperial!) presence there...

they want to put their heads in the sand (!) and ignore the reality that because of the actions of our gov't and misused military,
people are suffering in black gulags and worse, we can't even begin to comprehend the scope of the thing,

edit: i remember once in my unit (air force), someone was circulating pictures of prisoners during transit and they were apparently bad enough that our commander sent a memo that people should stop looking at them/sending them around,
before the MEDIA got their hands on them, etc.

can you imagine, seeing a picture of a man chained to teh FLOOR of a c-130H on his KNEES for 12+ hours?

Well it looks like they've found those top chain of command guys that had Abu Graib torture going. NOW, will the planet give them a HAGUE court of the people. With 10 top judges of every country and the last, drawn from a hat to the tune of over 190 judges, 1 from every country and they cannot be contacted by anyone, until the cases are resolved. So have em' pack for at least 2 years, and protect their families while they are serving as soon as the drawing begins. Each country with a back-up judge, in the event they get to a hat selected judge's family or kidnap. WE must get the rats before they cause any more damage.
