Default The Best American Exponent of the Perennial Philosophy

I would like to share the writings of an amazing mind, Alvin Boyd Kuhn. Reading his works opened doors that I had never even seen before. In his day, he was recognized as a leading philosopher, but academia seems to have paved him over. Why? That is a difficult question: Some label him as a theosophist (he did employ theosophy, but he transcended it). Another reason could be that he was not a part of the "club of professors of theology." Some of his writing may be found at:

    http://bio-plasmics.org/alvin_boyd_kuhn.htm There, you will find:

Shadow of the Third Century: A Revaluation of Christianity
Who is this King of Glory? A Critical Study of the Christos-Messiah Tradition (1944)
Lost Light: An Interpretation of Ancient Scriptures
India's True Voice: A Critique of Oriental Philosophy (1955)
    *The Root of All Religion
*Mary Magdalene and Her Seven Devils
    *Easter: Birthday of the Gods
Hallowe'en: A Festival of Lost Meanings
Yule and Noel: The Saga of Christmas
    *The Stable and the Manger
*The Red Sea is Your Blood
*The Esoteric Structure of the Alphabet
    *Prayer and Healing
    A Rebirth for Christianity (1963)
Sex as Symbol: The Ancient Light in Modern Psychology (1945)

If you are unfamiliar with Kuhn, or you are aware of him because of the works of Tom Harpur, I suggest that you start with "The Root of All Religion." Then, if that interests you, I suggest you continue with the shorter papers the are marked by an "*." The other works are much longer and will demand much of your time. I suggest that you begin with, "Sex as Symbol: The Ancient Light in Modern Psychology." The most important work is "Lost Light: An Interpretation of Ancient Scriptures."

A final note, these are not books intended for wide audience. They have little to do with the many "controversial" books that question the "true identity" of Jesus and that are intended for popular consumption. I hope that you give Mr. Kuhn an opportunityby reading "The Root of All Religion" and "The Esoteric Structure of the Alphabet. Thank you for reading this post - George

You did well in placing this thread in the appropriate location, although I fear it may not receive the attention it deserves. I had not heard of this fellow before, but having read the preface and first chapter of The Shadow of the Third Century, I can attest that this man's scholarship has every appearance of being of the highest quality.

Thanks! (Lord, I can see "kreagle's" head spinning now.)

I found this thread because I usually check all the new posts and it showed up there. I might not have found it otherwise.

millsge... I really appreciate the GREAT outline of how to approach Kuhn's work. I have been exposed previously but wandered around and never really got started. I have downloaded your first two recommended books and am reading them now. Again, kudos for your guidance in Kuhn's works.
