Very good advice, Paula. I wonder...have you ever said those things to beings in the physical? I mean, here we sit in a God-fearing, Bible-thumping community. She was open in that shop for a good 6 months before religious fanatics quit coming in and yelling at her to leave, or that she was going to hell for who she is. I think they would have burned her at the stake were it not that some preacher or another came in and asked if she believed in Jesus. She said yes, of course she did not clarify how or why or who that is exactly.
This woman is drawn to plants, right? I mean, as far as all outward appearances, she might be into natural cures to illnesses or teas to calm. That's about it. But these people had decided she was a "witch" and they were the "Salem."
It is better there now. But if there are people in the little shop, it's your typical environment. People milling about, she might be helping someone with an herbal remedy, etc., and there happens to be something amiss, someone not of the highest light...well, there is the issue of how to handle that in front of a shop full of (possibly) small town religious folk.
What would you do in that situation? Maybe the direct approach like that is still the best one, I really don't know.

Oh, Sierra, that might do it also. I know she printed some of the book of Psalms and put it by her door a long time ago, something that was important for personal reasons, and she says that helped with the feel of the place.

I’ve never had a physical entity situation. But I’ve had stalkers. One was a student. In the beginning I worked with her private therapist and the school social worker. I finally had enough when she drew pictures of where I lived and told other students that we were in a relationship. She actually found my place that was way, way in the woods. I used a PO Box address that’s how private I am and she got my phone number. No caller id back in those days.
My principal instructed me to ignore her because she was really disturbed and used starvation and then she said she’d kill herself. That threat was not even three weeks after my son passed, and she was aware of that fact. So all bets were off. I filed a police report and never heard from her again.
What I learned was people that drain you don’t mind even if you are rude. They will take any kind of interaction. So I keep my sentences short and firm. Ignore when possible. Use brief, to no words. Not even a smile because that’s misinterpreted.
If a physical entity engaged, I’d stand in my power. You know that feeling when your just about to come down from a high swing? I’d call that up. I once was confronted in a parking lot and it was in front of a large crowd. I stood my ground and looked her in the eyes and said nothing. It happened to be a crazy sister. When I didn’t light, she got in my face and said, “You with all your degrees, whatta going to do now?” I told her I’m walking away. As I step out she tripped me, but I half expected it and was ready. It was a time when I use to run five miles a day. And she did not. So there was no question I could hold my own. It made her more angry that I didn’t engage. But it was the only way for it to end.
Those accounts were before I did Tai Chi. But today, I still say, less is best. Now, if some one was physical, that’ll be a whole different story that has not been written and probably never will. In part, because most would feel that “don’t mess” vibe with strong eye contact tossed in for good measure.
The crazy ones, that may be different. But how I see it? It’s just not part of my story.
