I've read the whole article Putin makes some interesting points, and has good insight.

I agree.
When I started reading the article I confess I expected to see something more impactful.
But after thinking about it, he is a politician after all, would not give your tongue on the teeth.

In other news, the German equivalent of C-Span has admitted that programmes critical of the US or friendly and complimentary of Russia are being censored in Germany...

Our basic law (what on earth is that anyway, haha) clearly states that censorship does not take place at all... This is while the list of banned books slowly approaches the 45,000 mark... 99% of those books are not worth most people's time anyway, so why ban them, that only raises people's interest as to why they're banned in the first place.

This was also announced just in time for America's version of "dear leader" to visit Berlin... Warm feelings all 'round

Russia seems to have lost its lobbying battle in Europe for its South Stream pipeline carrying gas and against rival Nabucco, which is planned to run from Azerbaijan via Turkey to the European markets. At present, Moscow seeks as a last resort to negate the availability of gas supplies to the Nabucco project in the Caspian basin.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin summed up this official line during the recent annual gathering of the Valdai Club of Russian experts. He claimed that the Nabucco project lacks guaranteed supplies (and Russia would "not contribute any volumes"); that Nabucco cannot fully count on Azerbaijan since the latter has signed a supply agreement with Russian gas monopoly Gazprom; and a dispute over the delimitation of the Caspian seabed would block the transportation of Turkmen gas to Azerbaijan en route to Europe. In their acrimonious tone as well as in content, Putin’s remarks sounded like arguments of despair.

Azerbaijan is the existential supply source for the Nabucco project. Russia seeks to increase its imports of Azerbaijani gas to the maximum possible extent so as to reduce the volumes available to Nabucco. During President Dmitry Medvedev's recent visit to that country, Gazprom signed an agreement to purchase 2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas from Azerbaijan's State Oil Company (SOCAR) in 2011 (up from the 0.5 bcm first agreed in October 2009, then 1 bcm during 2010).

Hungary’s MOL said earlier last week it considered further financing of Nabucco unsustainable and had therefore not approved its 2012 budget. Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban added that Nabucco was “in trouble”. Instead, Budapest threw its weight behind the Russian-backed rival South Stream pipeline.

Nabucco is also facing competition from the South-East Europe Pipeline (SEEP). BP and its partners in the Caspian Sea developing Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz gas field plan to make a final decision on an export route to Europe by the middle of 2013. The group will choose between Nabucco and the SEEP by the middle of this year. The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is also vying to carry gas from Azerbaijan to Europe and will face off with either Nabucco or SEEP.

UK oil major BP said it was no longer considering shipping gas from its Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan through the Nabucco pipeline, dealing a blow to the troubled European project. But the European Commission said the “full-scale version” of Nabucco was still the main option under consideration.
Iain Conn, BP's head of fuel refining and marketing, said in a speech last week that BP and Azeri state oil group Socar were now considering only two options for the pipeline's route to Austria – a smaller, pipeline from the Nabucco consortium, known as "Nabucco West", and the South East Europe Pipeline (SEEP).

"Nabucco West" is a shorter line that would run from Turkey's western border through Bulgaria and Romania to Austria. The full-scale Nabucco project involves new pipes all the way from Azerbaijan to the Baumgarten gas hub near Vienna.

The West is going to arm the rebels, because that is what they are, criminals supplying weapons, and they will stick a gun in the hand of anybody who can fog a mirror. So Putin just wants to do it as a reactionary measure, to maintain the higher moral ground. At least he is trying to show that he is putting the option of whether tens of thousands more will die even more horrifically in the hands of the West, problem is this isn't even a guess. The West wants death and destruction (duhhhh.....) So this is 100% predictable...

Russia only supplies them with weapons that aren't banned and are supplied under a contract that was signed long ago and are air defense weapons designed to protect Syria from an external attack. The contract states that they are not allowed to use them against there own people. I think some persion gulf countries supply them with small arms and ammo but i am not 100% sure on that one
