The battle against the New World Order is designed to demoralize us. No matter how we vote, no matter what politician we vote for, no matter what legislation gets passed, no matter what rallies people attend, nothing seems to fundamentally change. If anything, things only seem to be getting worse and worse. So how can we effectively fight back against the powers that shouldn't be. The answer, it turns out, might be remarkably simple: stop feeding the beast. Join us this week on The Corbett Report as we explore the power of the boycott.

    What is open source?

The term "open source" refers to something that can be modified because its design is publicly accessible.

While it originated in the context of computer software development, today the term "open source" designates a set of values—what we call "the open source way.” In general, open source projects, products, or initiatives are those that embrace and celebrate open exchange, collaborative participation, rapid prototyping, transparency, meritocracy, and community development.

    What is open source software?

Open source software is software whose source code is available for modification or enhancement by anyone. "Source code" is the part of software that most computer users don't ever see; it's the code computer programmers can use to change how a piece of software works. Programmers who have access to a computer program's source code can improve that program by adding features to it or fixing parts that don't always work correctly.

What's the difference between open source software and other types of software?

Some software has source code that cannot be modified by anyone but the person, team, or organization who created it and maintains exclusive control over it. This kind of software is frequently called "proprietary software" or "closed source" software, because its source code is the property of its original authors, who are the only ones legally allowed to copy or modify it. Microsoft Word and Adobe Photoshop are examples of proprietary software. In order to use proprietary software, computer users must agree (usually by signing a license displayed the first time they run this software) that they will not do anything with the software that the software's authors have not expressly permitted. Non-GMO lettuce here costs $2.80 per head more than the poison stuff. Just for giggles I made a scene about the price difference last week, played hard of hearing and stupid which allowed the grocery store worker to raise their voice and enlighten me. No poison costs more. *LOL*

Open source software is good stuff. There's a place out here called download.com where one can find most anything they need for free. You can support the coders you like by hitting their donate button and sending a few $s - win-win-win The self employed coder gets beer money, you get good software that works and the big books get squat.

For spending money, when possible, I work to share the money with people I can respect. Walmart gets damn near nothing from me anymore while the office supply shop on main street gets my business even if their prices are slightly higher. When I need a ride somewhere I give money to neighbor for gas instead of calling a taxi.

The only way I know to fully disconnect and not feed the system is to die but we can make small efforts to starve em.

I agree with you Paula, my aim, (if I ever find myself in the position of having a permanent home, ), is to be 100% free of microsoft etc.
Wold anyone in their right mind put up with car manufacturers (for example) making the wheels square ? Or moving the brake pedal to the back seat and then demanding that customers change the way they drive ? ANY company that complies with U.S. spy laws should be boycotted. And that includes everyone's little darling - apple.

But ......... (and I don't want to offend anyone here, honestly), isn't it all just a hollow gesture while you continue to pay tax to the U.S. government ?

    Good point(s) mariposafe.

What may seem like a hollow gesture to one, it's a wake up call for another. Yes, I pay taxes to US government. To get from here to there is made with small steps from all angles from the 99%. How that begins is to offer alternative solutions.

The way I see it is even small gestures from many speaks volumes. Like no more drive through dinners or dinner in a bucket. Shop the outer isle in grocery stores with the money you would have spent at the Micky D's drive by. Purchase pre-paid cell minutes rather than long term contracts. Watch how the companies scramble to meet our needs and not the other way around. Raises the ethical vibration for starters.

Small incremental change encourages even more change in all areas of one's life. And when other's around you begin to change? That's a bonus for us all. Time for a relearn. Time to take expectation up a notch.

    Peace,
    Paula

The way they are tanking the economy and wiping out jobs on us, they are getting less and less income tax from many each year. Sales taxes are dumping on them too because we don't have money to buy stuff or are going alternative like barter and flea markets.

They couldn't finance a copy machine on what they get from myself or perhaps 70 million other individual Americans today.
