afternoon ranchers.has anybody ever heard thunder last continuily no break in sound for 45 min.i wish i could have recorded this but couldnt.it wasnt raining or blowing for the first 35 min.souned like a huge jet above our heads was going to land but never did.What would cause this??..i have never heard this before.and iowa gets odd weather and always has.

As you probably already know ... Thunder is caused by the rapid expansion of the air surrounding the path of a lightning bolt... So when one takes in the factor that You live right in the mist of the infamous US Midwest weather mixing bowl ... i say by looking at this current satellite map ... i am seeing two large fronts compressing over your state of Iowa during the last 12-24 hours ... There's little doubt in my mind why such a phenomenon could occur ... Especially with all the other factors playing into it with recent solar activity ... jet stream and ocean current changes etc...

We live in interesting 'Weather Times' ...




It still brings shivers to me when recalling the humongous noise of 'Thunder' awakening me
in the early morning hours when i lived out in the the farmlands of Western Illinois ...

humongous.nice way to put it.this was last nite or begining at or around 5:15 or so...lasted 1 hour and half with hail as cocktail.40 ta 50 mile an hour winds.cooled it off today.still 45 min thunder.strange days on the plains.thanks GIO.
