This thread is very much appreciated. Thanks to all!
I have a friend who is preparing a series of short stories on alien intervention and the origins of mankind. He sent an excerpt over to me a few weeks ago. I asked him if I could share it with you here and he gave the green light...
I believe this is a forward but it sort of relates to the subject matter. Feel free to tear it apart... he is grateful for any and all constructive criticism. I've encouraged him to apply for membership here. He would really benefit from the insight.

Humanity stranded on this orb, questioning its plight purpose and origins of existence. Throughout eons many great minds ponder the wonder, the injustice, the incredible absurdity of being. Alone in the universe with only a modicum of clues, myth, legend and archaic texts scribed by brethren, we struggle in a vain attempt to understand why we are The Orphaned Planet*.
Are we the ostracized progeny of some distant and presumably advanced civilization? The creation of a vengeful and jealous Patriarch? The experiential manifestation of universal energy? A computer simulation? A virtual vacation? A single organism with disparate and dysfunctional components attacking one another under the presumption of individual sovereignty as a cancer to the host, or a platform of individual life forms evolving and competing for survival?
If we interpret prevailing theological themes, ( Genesis, Horus, Isis/Osirus, Giglamesh, the Iriquois Sky World, Brahma, the “primordial wind” of Buddhism), we can extract understanding in just how very special and unique humanity, the flora and fauna of this earth truly are. Humanity alone is represented by four major races and over five thousand ethnicities and fifteen major religions. The diversity in our species pales by comparison to the estimated 8.7 million species remaining in our ecosystem. Whether this planet, this galaxy, this universe is real, perceived, a digital or holographic manifestation or simply the collective observational experience of energy, this place, this wonderfully diverse, beautiful, inspiring, and yes, terrifying place is something to be cherished, preserved and protected.
Just as a Curator or Archivist would preserve works of art, literature and documents/media or a Conservator would care for and maintain species and their DNA, it is plausible that we too, have a Conservator or Curator to oversee our awe inspiring world. If so, would this Conservator seek to maintain the collection in its unadulterated form with minimal intervention or would Curators of the collections of Antiquity handle the artifacts regularly or rarely and with gloves and masks to prevent deterioration and contamination?
True Conservationists of the animal kingdom take extreme measures to preserve their charges avoiding altering their natural existence and intervene only to preserve the species without conscious influence, thus allowing the perceived injustice of natural selection and as such, the Lion eats the antelope shortly after the Conservationist anesthetizes the Lion for tagging or procedure. The Conservationist seeks to be as invisible and anonymous as possible. The Lion awakens from its anesthesia, slightly annoyed, somewhat groggy with a faint memory of being violated. Occasionally, the Lion catches a glimpse of the dart gun or its operator prior. What must this poor creature think of its experience? Does the antelope sense injustice in the preservation of the lion as the lion’s jaws bear down on its delicate neck? Does the Conservationist, believe that he or she is enabling the antelope’s brutal demise or saving a noble species for posterity, and if for posterity, whose? Will the Lion, one day in the distant future, evolve and prevail as the dominant species on the planet and if so, will it know or understand its origins? Will the survivors of the inevitable human demise become the new Conservationists watching from afar? Are the progeny of the once Dominant Reptiles of Earth watching us from afar and intervening only to preserve our species? Have you glimpsed the “dart gun’? Is its Operator a benign Curator seeking to preserve us and our planet or a malevolent hunter seeking to reclaim the real estate?
*In astronomy, an Orphan Planet is a planet adrift in the cosmos with no parent star to orbit. The author assumes poetic license in the loose application of this term as it applies to an occupied planet that for lack of empirical evidence is presumably alone in the Universe
