Joseph Atwill's theory was discussed a month ago here:

Joseph Atwill proves this beyond a shadow of a doubt
Marlowe, my friend, he does no such thing. You are taking his word as… gospel, just as he is taking Josephus as gospel. Let me be the unbeliever here and pick a few holes in this story of yours.

First, let’s suppose for a moment that Josephus wrote Matthew’s gospel. Did he write Mark, which textual analysis shows came first and served as source material for the other three? He did not. Did he write Luke and John, and the Acts of the Apostles? No he didn’t. No one is claiming otherwise. Did he write the gospels of Philip, Thomas, Peter, Mary, and many others later discarded? Of course he didn’t. So many witnesses all with roughly the same story would sound impressive in a court of law.

Then perhaps Josephus didn’t write Matthew after all. Perhaps it was the other way round and he based his history of the Judaea campaign on the gospel account. We are talking after all of the Romans and their self-promotion of their ‘evil’ policies: perhaps they were even more devious about it than you are supposing. In other words, I am suggesting that the historian was writing fiction. He wouldn’t be the first.

Take Winston Churchill, who wrote his own history of World War II. Beautifully written, but historians have been picking holes in it ever since. It is a top down version by just one participant, albeit a very important one. But historians like to take into account as many eye-witness accounts as possible. These are only just drying up 70 years on.

Where did Churchill get the time? He was voted out of office as early as 1945, mostly by returning war vets who from experience weren’t buying into the war hero nonsense. In other words, Churchill’s history was denounced by millions as fiction before he ever put pen to paper. Of course he had to give a factual account of the war that everyone knew about, but he put a slant on it that did not correspond to the grassroots reality of the individuals involved in the war.

Now imagine this history being written by a German traitor, someone like the duke of Windsor… And imagine him having a monopoly on the story, no one to contradict him. Josephus was a Jewish defector who gained acceptance among the Flavians, and is the only source we have for Titus’s campaign. The manner of his defection as one of two survivors of a suicide pact arranged by himself is highly suspicious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephus_problem

With no one to check on him, the details of the campaign could have been entirely made up by Josephus: they did not need to have happened at all. He could have taken them from the life of Jesus, which is corroborated by many more than Josephus’s story. He might have done this out of pure laziness, or out of familiarity with the ‘typology’ principle whereby stories are based on other stories. Or he might have done it with the ulterior motive ascribed to him by Joseph Atwill, although doing the opposite to what Atwill claims. According to Josephus, the sack of Jerusalem led to 1,100,000 killed and 97,000 taken prisoner. That's quite a few people who would not be needing to turn the other cheek.

By the way, this ‘typology’ method is by no means restricted to biblical story-telling. E.H. Gombrich’s Art & Illusion describes how art has always copied art – for example, if you had never seen a whale or rhinoceros, you would just copy someone else’s woodcut or drawing. And plagiarism was rife among writers long before cutting-and-pasting made life easier for cheats and Internet searches made it harder for them.

Moreover, the ‘typology’ principle also applies to historical events. Wikipedia disambiguation lists 17 sieges of Jerusalem, and the fire that destroyed the Temple in 70 somewhat reiterates the fire of Rome probably started by Nero a couple of years earlier. Also military tactics are decided by adapting what has worked in previous battles to the present situation.

Finally, here is a character assessment of Josephus that suggests that this character should be deeply mistrusted – but why should we have any faith anyway in someone whose whole purpose as claimed by Atwill is disinformation?

Quote Josephus's life story remains ambiguous. He was described by Harris in 1985 as a law-observant Jew who believed in the compatibility of Judaism and Graeco-Roman thought, commonly referred to as Hellenistic Judaism.[3] Before the nineteenth century, the scholar Nitsa Ben-Ari notes that his work was shunned like that of converts, then banned as those of a traitor, whose work was not to be studied or translated into Hebrew.[16] His critics were never satisfied as to why he failed to commit suicide in Galilee and, after his capture, accepted the patronage of Romans.

The historian E. Mary Smallwood wrote:
"[Josephus] was conceited, not only about his own learning but also about the opinions held of him as commander both by the Galileans and by the Romans; he was guilty of shocking duplicity at Jotapata, saving himself by sacrifice of his companions; he was too naive to see how he stood condemned out of his own mouth for his conduct, and yet no words were too harsh when he was blackening his opponents; and after landing, however involuntarily, in the Roman camp, he turned his captivity to his own advantage, and benefitted for the rest of his days from his change of side" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavius_Josephus

    Thanks araucaria,

Yes as Winston Churchill once said ... 'History will be kind to me for I intend to write it."

And i totally agree with your argument that Joseph Atwill's theories (work) are (should be) suspect ...

Though in regards to the written history that has been handed down (supposedly transcribed) via Paul the Apostle (Saul) - his Roman handlers and of course the Patriarchal Roman Catholic ... Well that's another argument ...

Though i personally have lost my trust (faith) in the Universal Catholic Church ... Note i still maintain my belief in (and of) the historical figure known as Christ Jesus ... And from that knowingness ... It has allowed me personally to hold the space in the here/now ... For what matters most (to me) ... The maintaining of the Christ Consciousness upon this plane.

    Blessings Gio

will share this here ... a timely metaphoric message ...

The Lament of Hermes, read by Graham Hancock

"Hermes thrice-great, the Messenger of the Gods and Greek reincarnation of Thoth presents his `lament`, which reads like a prophecy, telling of a time of cultural disease that will be wiped clean to begin anew. Much like many prophecies around today including the 2012 Mayan date, this one from ancient Egypt appears to apply to our time, giving us reason to reevaluate our present."

Question Re: At the Vatican, Up Against the World

OK ~ Sounds good to me ...

But only if we can get all those god fearing priests and christians to commit to and do the same ...

Pope Francis reaches out to atheists and agnostics
The Pope has struck a surprisingly conciliatory tone towards atheists and agnostics, saying that God will "forgive" them as long as they behave morally and live according to their consciences.

The unprecedented gesture came as his incoming number two, the Vatican's newly-nominated secretary of state, said that the rule that priests should be celibate was not "a dogma of the Church" and could be open for discussion... More here

Pope Francis is enjoying being pope but what he doesn't like are the restrictions to his movement and having to be escorted everywhere.

Last Saturday he saw the perfect opportunity to regain a bit of his lost freedom and enjoy a joy ride in the Vatican when he took possession of a nearly 30-year old Renault 4 which had just been given to him and drove off happily in the Vatican "as if it were the most normal thing in the world."

The car was given to the pope by the Rev. Renzo Zocca, a 69-year-old Italian parish priest...

Minneapolis Arch-bishop Blames Satan for Marriage Equality

The archbishop of Minnesota’s two biggest cities argued that the devil is to blame for the legalization of marriage equality in the state, Minnesota CityPages reported on Friday.

“Sodomy, abortion, contraception, pornography, the redefinition of marriage, and the denial of objective truth are just some of the forces threatening the stability of our civilisation,” Rev. John Nienstedt said in a speech to the Napa Institute Conference in August. “The source of these machinations is none other than the Father of Lies. Satan knows all too well the value that the family contributes to the fabric of a good solid society, as well as the future of God’s work on earth” ... Read more with video speech here

I think the reason it's all hidden is because the power within us by God, can use prayer to remove all the problems, "if" they are known.

Ergo, the revealing for us to show faith and give it over to God when WE don't know or can't do it without His loving help and mercy. WE are navigating through some torrential weather the next few years, so get ready for it. WE will come through it if we are worthy and listen within on what to do next.

WE are truth seekers and link leavers to the truth.

Our mission is not to leave it there for someone else to clean up in the future, we are the last stand. So sound the alarms and wake them up. Drop links of the visitors, truth testimony by those in the armed services, and the Canandian Prime Minister during Reagan. Paul Hellyer. He told everyone that we've lost loved ones attacking, when all they wanted to do was help clean the pollution

Our children do not deserve to have to live in this corrupt government of the Corporations. They deserve a government that "cares and looks out for them. It's not selfish to stop stirring a bees hive that has been going on for 3,000 years. They have to settle it as other nations, but without chemical weapons. Freedom in the material world must be faught for to be maintained. Remember the Malevolents are the ones programming the chaos, ergo there are Benevolents who want to help.

On who's authority is this article written in deciphering the knowledge of God?

No man knows all there is to know when the word has been scattered and taken apart like a Religious Frankenstein. Why couldn't they have just left all the lessons in life in there, and let the people know and through God's infinite wisdom and choice, decide what speaks to their hearts. What instance/family/person in the bible, gives examples? They hid it for control, and the word of God has NO controls on it. It was inevidible, that the truth would burst forth. God promised it. It is done. WE must question, but not insult or shun another's belief in how they understand it. Christ had to teach the diciples/apostles, and He will teach US from within our hearts, if we but listen and understand/walk in anothers shoes.
