After a day of the Republican-controlled House and Democratic-controlled Senate playing chicken over a spending bill that would keep the government running, neither side blinked and the White House ordered federal government agencies to begin shutting down, furloughing thousands of workers and curtailing some services for the first time in nearly 18 years.

The Senate twice on Monday stripped House amendments from the spending bill and sent it back to the House. As the clock struck midnight, the House was debating a procedural move to appoint negotiators for a conference committee to try to work out differences between the two chambers. But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid rejected that move even before it left the House, saying, "We will not negotiate with a gun to our head.

President Barack Obama delivered a message to members of the military over Armed Forces Television that they would get what they needed to carry out their

mission and that they would get their paychecks as scheduled. To Department of Defense civilians and government contractors, his message was less certain: "You and your families deserve better than the dysfunction we're seeing in Congress," Obama said. GOP has already rewritten one that will go through, there are only 30 tea party members that refuse to allow anything to go through without disrupting the healthcare coming in January.

the GOP is about to break the news to the tea party that they don't matter, they are moving forward without them...

the new funding will pass with an overwhelming majority.

graded again. Worse case scenerio would probably be Depression

Obama on Monday said, “The Affordable Care Act is moving forward. That funding is already in place. You can’t shut it down.”

"Government Shutdown" is just a cover label and lie to what's really going on.....all the big players will still get paid and all the big ABC agencies will remain operational and active. (especially DHS, NSA, and FEMA)

If it was a real government shutdown all politicians, agencies, etc would be ordered to go home without pay, but in reality what we are seeing is a complete lie and a designed maneuver to once again manipulate the masses.

Without a false flag event to rock the economy, people will see that this "shut down" has absolutely no effect and means little (with perhaps 99.9% of the actual gov.), it will only "affect" pockets of "civilians".....that they now can't get a gun permit, wander around in national parks, lay offs, and still must prepare for ObamaCare.

Sorry to hear your taking a hit due to this TargetT, I edited my post as I meant the fat cats in DC it means nothing to, not people like you and I, (civilians) specifically "non-essential" people.

I'm sure they'll make the masses suffer here and there to pound their agenda home a bit so to speak....many are waking up to these DC games and illusions....I'm really sensing that this will have some blowback to many polticians and to the Obama administration.

No hard feelings on my part, just trying to bring the full picture back into focus; for the most part you guys are right.

Looking at my agency and seeing who is deemed "essential" and who is not makes it clear: the upper crust (even at the "lower levels") won't be affected by this, this shut down is designed to put pressure on the "common man" which makes congress's actions just that much more out-of-touch with their constituency.

Personally, I don't mind a few days off, I have quite a few projects that need attention at home; I just hope it lasts at least until Monday so I get the weekend off too

I don't think I will entertain the idea of a Government job for awhile. Go figure, part of what is considered ESSENTIAL Government is NSA Spying!!!

On Friday, the Defense Department released its plans for dealing with a potential shutdown. In a memo, intelligence and surveillance programs were listed as essential duties of the department not be affected by a shutdown

Every single American, should be enraged by this. Folks who were 'essential' Yesterday, are not 'essential' today. But the spy program lives on!!!

Are their Americans here who still believe that the US government is looking out for their best interests???

My opinion,,, if they are ALL so inept that they cant keep the government running, then they should all be fired. A vote that ends up in a Shutdown of government, should also carry a penalty of losing your government job. I just watched Obama smiling and laughing and waving,,, then takes the 'stage' and dawns his 'gloomy president' look.

Perhaps unrelated, but I have been unable to access my (US chartered) bank for online banking for last 3 hours, for the claimed reason of 'scheduled maintenance.'

I figured it would be up by start of regular biz hours but so far that is not the case.
