There is longstanding association between natives of the Iberian Peninsular and the "new world". See the book "America BC" by Barry Fell for evidence that the Phoenicians established trading posts in the Gulf and up the Mississippi before the time of Christ, and these trading posts were people by Iberian Celts who remained.
