I totally do relate and understand where you are coming from, and I don't dispute whatsoever your points and concerns.

I just saw this incident as the guy getting caught up in a situation, as frustrating and stupid that the policy is , that unfortunately he could not win at that moment in time.

Rather it be fortunate, or unfortunate one of the qualifications that goes along with being a law enforcement officer is the quality to have to deal with tough decisions.


Myself I have no desire to ever be a law enforcement officer.
It most ways, it is a thankless job. I thank those same law enforcement officers that try their best to make our community safe.

Everyone is only a very simple human-being and I love each and everyone of them.

I think you are right about not being able to win at that point in time Vitalux. The parent was getting no where and spouting off that the school was holding his child hostage, didn't help. The other side of that argument though is, if there is a "rule" (it's not a law, it's just what this school had decided it was going to do)... that one opposes, and you are there non-violently confronting them about their decision, it shouldn't result in arrest. When do we arrest folks for disagreeing? Does that mean that the law is.... disagreeing with authority results in disorderly conduct?

Vitalux, my guess as a mom: you have no children.

I have three children and two out of the three have graduated University. My youngest, who is 21 is trying to decide between work or college.

I really based my opinion, when the guy had the opportunity to sign the form, he probably had a loophole to get his children.

In Canada, the Sheriff is the most powerful law enforcement officer there is.

Rather or not, I agree with a law officers decision or direction, it is completely pointless to argue with him, or fail to obey his instructions.
While he is giving me that order, on that patch of land that he is standing on, he is the law.

Rather he is right or wrong is of actually no significance at the moment. He is wearing a talisman that gives him the authority to do so.

Rarely have I witnessed anyone win an argument with a law enforcement officer. Arguing with them usually only escalates a bad situation and makes it worse.

The officer did give the guy ample warning that if he continued to stand his ground, it was going to result in his arrest.

Flash ....from the information I have seen, I do not necessarily agree with school policy, far from it.
I also have great compassion for the man who was arrested and admire his ability to stand proud for what he believes in.

My opinion was based that once the Sheriff informed him of his boundaries, any further debate was only going to result in the officer following which ever method he felt like choosing to resolve it. Had I been in the Sheriff's boots, I too would have arrested the man.

The Sheriff did not make the policy, it is his job to simply enforce it.

i am happy you have three children well raised and succeeding in their life.

But well..., you must have forgotten what it is like to have them that are all small, or you raised them in a smaller place where everything is nearby, or, put simply and crudely, you do not have any handicap child and cannot imagine what are the requirements for their welfare.

We are talking of a guy here how not only has a small child for whom it is dangerous to be in trafic, but has an handicap child.

Once a psychologist told me the following:

parents with handicap children have the worst of both worlds.

When other parents see them struggling, they all give advice, as if they knew that to do, when in fact they would be completely lost and most probably not able to deal with a child handicap on a daily basis, but they think they know and that the parent to the handicap child is "capricious" "stupid" "not a good parent" "do not understand how things work" name it, I even heard once that i was working too much from the "astral realmj" when my problems and needs were sooooooo much down to earth.

The other worst world is that those parents whose children are fine and without problems think it is thanks to them and the way they raise their children.

So on one hand they condemn, on the other they praise themselves for educating their "without any problems" chiildren.

If their children are without any basic problem, we all understand they were easy to raise. No particular praise there.

But the poor parent with a handicap child will never be praised, he will be scolded and moralised, as this school and this officer have done.

My 2 cents of frustration with these attitudes and the incomprehension.

God dammit, parents with children in difficulties, be physical, mental, emotional, learning, whatever difficulties always have to fight to their teeth just to get the basic necessities for their child because they are constantly trampled by others. Over and above the daily requirements of having to deal with the handicap, which is very often over the capapcities of any regular folk (see Tesla story here to understand how difficult it is).

Thinking the way you do Vitalux makes one of those compounding the problems of these parents, surely not the helping hand. (no hard feeling here, I only use your posts as a demonstration, I have no cue of what you do to help in your environement and how much empathy you have in daily life).

Not only do these parents have to deal with the problem itself, they have to deal with huge amount of careless and empathy less people around them that will trample on their child anytime without even a tad of guilt feeling.

I am a non-custodial parent of two teenage girls in the public school system... The other day, the police were called because I brought some pizzas for my youngest,, on her birthday... (Nov5) I did not stay to greet them,, but the pizzas were confiscated and put into 'evidence'.... No bull****...

On the Veterans day assembly at the same school, I was separated from the rest of the 'real' parents and walked over to sit by myself and a SECURITY GUARD!!!

Non-custodial, male parents are simply considered to be criminals...

I cannot pick my kids up from school,,, but strangers, who I don't even know,,,, CAN!!!

If I were to pick one of them up, without written permission,,, signed by her mom,,, and the administrators,,, AND copies prepared for the 'authorities',,,,, There would be an Amber Alert,,, (Amber Alert is an emergency system set up to find newly missing children,,, first 48 hours are critical) and I would be in BIG trouble.... The last time there was an amber alert in my state (that I remember) the FBI shot and killed the 'perp',,, no questions asked... (We will never know the circumstances involved,,, ever!!)

Fathers are being destroyed..... Systematically... IMHE.......

With that said... My daughters adore me. They spend more time with me than they do at 'home'... They can't stand it at home. I am wealthy beyond my life,,, just because they love me.... Most fathers that I know,, are NOT allowed to see their kids at all... Yet they still have to pay heavily for child support.

The State of Washington has shown me that they DO own my kids. They are commodities that bring in money to the state...

I call in NAZINGTON State...

People don't seem to care, unless it is THEM being violated and THEIR rights being s$%t on...

I don't really blame them,,, PUNISHMENT is the rule of the day.... Step out of line and you are dealt with....
People havent' realized it yet,,, just wait until the monies are pulled off of the grid and EVERYONE is at the mercy of government 'solutions'.... Everyone will be treated like a criminal,,, EVERYBODY!!!

Seriously, the bodies of control in the USA are way out of balance!

Both times that I visited the USA, this was one of the first things that caught my attention and the air port (border control) but also in the streets with the cops, safety guards, money transport operators and such. Even looking at them makes them feel attacked and you get the "eyeballing stare" at you.

Don't take me wrong, I had a good time there and many people are very open and interested in others, but everything that has to do with controlling the people is completely out of balance.

I hope that you get your kids back one day man.
Government shouldn't decide so lightly to separate parents from their children.

Jake, I so understand what you are going through. For a short time I worked for The Friend of the Court in my state. That office is the go between for the courts, referees, attorneys, sheriffs department, ex-husbands, ex-wives. It took a short time of of my witnessing abuses. I knew something was wrong. I tried to help the dads. But I got sent to the "principals" office. Told you just do your job.

My infraction: taking to a referee the actual check the dad had dropped off for his child support or alimony payment. Why did I do this? Because I also handled the arrest warrants. So at time it seems to me there was things that should be stopped. Like arrests. In the offices of the men that handled the cases they had boxes with the hard copy of all the pertinent paperwork. Lined up in the order it was received. They were usually about 4 to 6 weeks behind evaluating all of it. Many men should not have been arrested. Which by the way was likely to be done on Friday. Which guaranteed the weekend in jail. Because it couldn't get to court until Monday or Tuesday. The case would be immediately dismissed when the receipt for the monies was produced. Talk about corrupted. Shortly after the visit to the office I resigned.

For me this man was within his rights to demand his children, especially if the father has deemed the current "law" as being unsafe for his children. It is the parents duty to protect their children and family from harm. As citizens it is our duty to ensure that rules and regulations are fair and just. Civil disobedience is sometimes required to get the ball rolling.

Blind acceptance of unjust laws has brought our society to its current situation. A nation of unnecessarily restrictive laws that infringe on our natural rights which were given to us at birth.

For those who want to bend over and take it... So be it. But never will that method produce any meaningful change.

Totally sorry for you Jake. Really.

I always made sure my daughter had full access to her dad and him to her, if they wanted to, even if I thought he was not a good dad. I thought better to have a bad dad (unless she is physically harmed, which he never did), then no dad at all.

Now she is older, she decides if she sees him, how and when. She eat at his place one a week on her decision, but do not want to stay there ever more than this dinner time.

She says she is miserable at this place and the verbal harassment and intimidation have been going on forever. Which I believe. Yet, she prefers to have a dad than none. It says everthing. She will have to clean herself of the consequences of a bad relationship, but not of the consequences of abandonment.

I cannot even imagine why a mother would stop her children from having a good Relationship with their dad. I would have wanted this so much for my own child.

The last time there was an amber alert in my state (that I remember) the FBI shot and killed the 'perp',,, no questions asked... (We will never know the circumstances involved,,, ever!!)

Fathers are being destroyed..... Systematically... IMHE.......

With that said... My daughters adore me. They spend more time with me than they do at 'home'... They can't stand it at home. I am wealthy beyond my life,,, just because they love me.... Most fathers that I know,, are NOT allowed to see their kids at all... Yet they still have to pay heavily for child support.

The State of Washington has shown me that they DO own my kids. They are commodities that bring in money to the state...

So, her best course of action would be to not look at her ex husband killing the children as "wrong" from a soul perspective, even though from her physical perspective she is devastated, heartbroken, in total pain and suffering. She should just choose not to get too caught up in the game of life here.

Have you considered moving out of state and having the girls there part of the year?
Would that be better than being subject to the ex?

It seems like it would be -- but it's weird that you didn't get partial custody,
is that typical in Washington?

See, if the woman is "normal" i.e. neurotic workforce mom, she has rights --
but as a veteran with ASD and some problems in my life, I have very few rights.

my son's school doesn't even send me information about when he has Spring Break etc.
and the teacher told me that I was not welcome to visit before the children are close to afternoon release,
because Mom participating "would only upset them and make the kids want to go home".

what the ****!
and the Seattle school told me to be there every day if i wanted.
big differences between school districts, it's like dildo shopping (not that i would know)

p.s. recently one of the social workers tried to pin me down on whether i want my severely disabled child to live at home with a crazy single mom and i said "i am not qualified to answer that question".

they will probably punish me for being responsible.

also i make 1100/mo SSDI, and ChilD support took half my money this month.
just for the record, if Dad won't pay they garnish mom even if she is homeless.

they will make me homeless soon if i don't fix this.
