Re: The real Jesus, the real Mary, Gnosis, the Archons, and the world's first major smear campaign
Well.....I did not think that I would be writing this when I started out doing this three or so weeks ago, but gang? I'm sorry! I was wrong!
Well not completely.
When I began, the first thing that I looked at was the Vision TV documentary on the Talpiot tomb. I'm in Canada, so I remember watching this on Vision when it first came out and thinking....wow....WOW....
However! If you look at the Wikipedia article on this alone, you're going to see that there are a number of things that come into question about the evidence found at Talpiot, as well as the documentary itself.

So considering that evidence, I find it possible, but extremely unlikely this is the family tomb of Jesus of Nazareth.
Also, this video has some interesting comments:
However, having said that....
I just finished listening to an audio book, "The Gnostic Gospels" by Elaine Pagels. It was tough to get into at first, because I found myself rejecting everything that was being said without giving it any thought. I was looking for a way to make it wrong before I gave it a chance.
Then something very interesting happened. Pagels started quoting the Gnostic Gospels themselves, interspersing them with her commentary about what was going on historically at the time. I was shocked, and at times giddy, when what she was quoting was not only something I agreed with, but something that from my own spiritual experience I know as to be true.
Holy shoeshine. I'm a Gnostic. And I didn't even know I was a Gnostic!
This is a REALLY good book, one I"m going to Amazon and re-read on the page.
There are aspects of traditional Christianity I've always believed true. But when held in the context of most of Gnostic texts, at least what I heard Pagels quote, this jives with how I understand these doctrines/dogmas.
Rather than being discouraged, I'm encouraged. Believe it or not, my faith is actually deepened because of this. And I do stand by what I said, but I have to modify it slightly. I believe the Gnostic truths are available in the New Testament...but you really, really, really have to read them with a critical mind to see them, and not everyone is going to be able to do it or see it.
This has really opened a door, but it's also confirmed my feet are on the ground.
