an interesting one from a social point of view,

I would never give to a coercive beggar. Unless it is a child that will possibly get beaten up if it returns to their shack with empty hands...
A sign that society and communities need restructuring.

There comes a point in life where individuals ought to direct their natural creativity away from becoming better parasites, and start giving from their centre, even if just with a small positive gesture or a heartfelt smile. Expressing anger and cynicism only perpetuates the dysfunction that's around.

Nor does the "**** THE POOR" banner get me to feel guilty, as I am not even on a wavelength.
It's like the saying, let the dead bury the dead.
Let the poor give to the poor.

Having inner abundance means never having to hit on others coercively for help.
Because the universe does provide, if we can just tune in to that wavelength.

Telling one's story is different. If it is done without that emotional blackmail element.
Also if one prays to the highest (imaginable) Source of everything...
then from that point a beacon sends inspiration outwards, and those who are receptive will respond
and soothing will prompt them to show generosity in the right direction, place and moment.

If there is one thing that matters on this earth, it is this:
to discover how the universe really works,
and that all coercion and deception and force and emotional blackmail is wrong.

I suppose 'coercive' can be somewhat relative and maybe I feel a bit more comfortable being around such folks being a man but I always give to anyone who asks for change. I usually give whatever singles I have on me though.

I do see your point though and I imagine more people would agree with you than me. I once gave a guy all my change (less than $5) and my buddy scoffed at me for doing this. Ironically he is super religious.

Weeds are over our knees in some places, so I thought I had better put on my big girl britches and take care of that. After all, last weekend Mike took one of the tires off, which was flat, and just bought a new one.

I trekked to the back, behind a tool shed, through some pretty rough terrain (and I was talking real loud the whole time, hoping to scare of critters) to get the gas can. Brought it back to the house and filled it up. Got myself all situated. Battery was dead.

I think this is really funny. But...I also know that critters like tall grass, er, weeds...or whatever. So at this point I'm not going trekking again until the mower is given a clean bill of health.
Life is a road we don't travel alone. But everyone's on their own journey home.

I was going to go out and plant some lettuce and spinach seeds, but the forecast is calling for an upslope storm with 6 - 15 inches of snow tonight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. With the key word "upslope," because it's always an upslope that sometimes stalls over the top of us and instead of putting down 15 inches max, it sticks around and gives us 36 - 50 inches or so. Yes, in April. So, I guess I'll wait another week or so to plant some seeds, lol.

About beggars. I was homeless once. Sitting on a bench in Boulder and writing poetry about the coffee shops with their outside cafes, fenced in against the folks who might like a place to sit down and can't get to the table without going past the buying counter, and the boulder-special ambiance of the yuppies sipping their $5 coffee while watching the homeless folks walking around the mall with backpacks. Anyway, while I was sitting there, I overheard a conversation between the two guys, also with backpacks, talking about the relative merits of their "stake-out" spots for begging. One was complaining that he "used to" get over $400 a day on good weekends, while the other one agreed that with the economy downturn, folks just weren't shelling out anymore and he was lucky to net more than $200 a day now. Then, there's the woman my son gave a ride to in his taxi. She was going from Boulder into someplace in Arvada - and took a cab, which is a super expensive way to travel that distance. He drove cab in Boulder. He had been in Denver a couple of days before, and had spotted her - no question, same woman - womanning a cardboard sign at the end of an off ramp to the interstate. He watched her go up to the house she directed him to, take out her keys, open the door, and go in. Hmm...

The two videos - dog versus cat and tiger with chiuahua - I enjoyed both thoroughly. Thanks.

I'm surrounded by beggars pretty much all the time, because of where I live...third world, etc.,
and I should have mentioned that I give quite a bit. Just can't stand it when they become
    manipulative and aggressive and coercive.
That's where I draw the line. Gratitude is a virtue that will get them out of their fix
even faster than donations can. And it doesn't cost them anything.
The spiteful poster up above is an expression I don't relate to at all.

Not at all. I thought you were being realistic.
And having experienced what it means to be down and out you have every right to express
your views of the different angles of beggars' attitudes.

The fork in the road still exists at the bottom where one needs to drop one's pride and dignity and actually start pleading for help.
And the danger lies in the fact that many people want to feel that they are 'good" people and so they might give generously...
and suddenly comes the realisation how much easier it is to live off of handouts than to produce something that really benefits others.

And so quite a few got stuck and became professional beggars.
And judging by the current state of affairs the majority of them are not in the streets at all, but are working for some organised "charity"
or figured out how to get big hand-outs from government.

Since you are struggling to live off-grid and become self sufficient I see you as the opposite of that.

I sensed no spite in your post. You just pointed out what can happen once people get past their inborn need for dignity,
when they discover how easy it is to sponge off of others.

What horrific wounds must be at the heart of those who become beggars to make a living. The way I feel about them, and I am not suggesting others should feel this way, and I am only sharing my own view here, is much the same way I view a sts 5th density being. Ho'oponopono comes to mind.

That is exactly right. That is why those who have abundance need to keep an eye out in their communities and neighbourhoods
if there is anyone who could do with some help.
Also set up some local food supplies, health services, shelters, and even small local banks, independent of current institutions.

Heartfelt thanks, meeradas. Absolutely inspirational. Eye opening. And full of hope. Something I never would have seen, and never would have known without you sharing this, here and now. I read every single word of this, which took quite a bit of time, pausing and playing and pausing and playing (I don't understand German).

Something that sticks with me, and will continue with me: Being Pro does not mean being against anything. And I am Pro Peace. I am Pro Human Being.

Blessings to this man, and all others like him.
