Even though Putin and the Russian military are definitely no saints, that article sounds like a well-written and well-contemplated piece of spin doctoring to me. But then again, we already knew that The Powers That Be were going to be playing out this card, didn't we?

They did the same thing with regard to alleged atrocities committed by Saddam in Kuwait and Gaddafi in Libya. Undoubtedly, some of that will have been real, but most of it was just spin and propaganda. I expect no different here.

What annoys me about this issue at the moment is how the mainstream media are playing it as if there already is a war going on between the West and Russia. I hold the mainstream media just as accountable for war mongering as I do Obama, the EU and all of their cronies.

These anti-Russian leaflets are being dropped from helicopters over eastern Ukraine

Strange things have been happening in eastern Ukraine, a place swirling with rumors of imminent invasion by the "Little Green Men" (what the suspected Russian troops without insignia are being called).

A couple of British journalists and I were driving back to our hotel after a day of chasing news on the outskirts of Slovyansk when Boris, our intrepid taxi driver, pointed out the window and shouted, “Look at that!”

We, or at least I, ducked -- but then we looked. It was a large gray military-style helicopter. And something was falling out of the sky.

It was dropping leaflets, which fluttered toward the highway to Kramatorsk, then drifted in the spring breeze into a cow field and apple orchard.

Mission accomplished. A couple of locals pulled over, and so did we, to grab a handful out of the trees.

“Dear Peaceful Citizens of Kramatorsk and Slovyansk!” The leaflets read. “Here are your instructions on how to SURVIVE in the territories where Russian terrorists act.”

There was a black and white image of a masked man with a Kalashnikov and then what appears to be the Ukrainian Security Service version of a listicle. The first point:

1. “Don’t go close to the occupied buildings. You can become a human shield or hostage. It is a good picture for Russian media.”

Russian media are generally seen by the government in Kiev as instruments of the Russian state, especially President Vladimir Putin.

2. “Don’t listen to those who spout propaganda for federalization. They're being paid 1000 UAH per day.”

That would be about $80 a day, which is real money in eastern Ukraine, where in July 2013 the average monthly salary was 3901 UAH, or about $312 at today’s rates.

The instructions continue: They ask peace-loving citizens to inform law enforcement about suspicious people and groups of people carrying bags. They ask, please, don't join any self-defense groups: They're anti-Ukrainian.

Also: Avoid participating in mass rallies.

The leaflet warns that there are Russian GRU assets circulating in the crowds (GRU is Russia's military intelligence directorate) and that “they might liquidate those who criticize Russian politics.”

On that note, the instructions also warn the peaceful citizens to keep themselves and loved ones away from terrorists and anti-Ukrainian actions. Why? Because "all those who participate in anti-Ukrainian actions are potential victims.”​

"Exclusive: Kerry Warns Israel Could Become ‘An Apartheid State’

The secretary of state said that if Israel doesn’t make peace soon, it could become ‘an apartheid state,’ like the old South Africa. Jewish leaders are fuming over the comparison.

If there’s no two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict soon, Israel risks becoming “an apartheid state,” Secretary of State John Kerry told a room of influential world leaders in a closed-door meeting Friday.

Senior American officials have rarely, if ever, used the term "apartheid" in reference to Israel, and President Obama has previously rejected the idea that the word should apply to Jewish State. Kerry's use of the loaded term is already rankling Jewish leaders in America—and is almost certain to do the same to Israeli leaders abroad.

It wasn't the only controversial comment on the Middle East that Kerry made during his remarks to the Trilateral Commission, a recording of which was obtained by The Daily Beast. Kerry also repeated his warning that a failure of Middle East peace talks could lead to a resumption of Palestinian violence against Israeli citizens. He suggested that a change in either the Israeli or Palestinian leadership could make achieving a peace deal more feasible. He lashed out against Israeli settlement-building. And Kerry said that both Israeli and Palestinian leaders share the blame for the current impasse in the talks.

Kerry also said that at some point, he might unveil his own peace deal and tell both sides to “take it or leave it.”

“A two-state solution will be clearly underscored as the only real alternative. Because a unitary state winds up either being an apartheid state with second class citizens—or it ends up being a state that destroys the capacity of Israel to be a Jewish state,” Kerry told the group of senior officials and experts from the U.S., Western Europe, Russia, and Japan. “Once you put that frame in your mind, that reality, which is the bottom line, you understand how imperative it is to get to the two state solution, which both leaders, even yesterday, said they remain deeply committed to.”

According to the 1998 Rome Statute, the “crime of apartheid” is defined as “inhumane acts… committed in the context of an institutionalized regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over any other racial group or groups and committed with the intention of maintaining that regime.” The term is most often used in reference to the system of racial segregation and oppression that governed South Africa from 1948 until 1994.

Former president Jimmy Carter came under fire in 2007 for titling his book on Middle East peace Palestine: Peace or Apartheid. Carter has said publicly that his views on Israeli treatment of the Palestinians are a main cause of his poor relationship with President Obama and his lack of current communication with the White House. But Carter explained after publishing the book that he was referring to apartheid type policies in the West Bank, not Israel proper, and he was not accusing Israel of institutionalized racism.

“Apartheid is a word that is an accurate description of what has been going on in the West Bank, and it's based on the desire or avarice of a minority of Israelis for Palestinian land,” Carter said.

Leading experts, including Richard Goldstone, a former justice of the South African Constitutional Court who led the United Nations fact-finding mission on the Gaza conflict of 2008 and 2009, have argued that comparisons between the Israeli treatment of the Palestinians and “apartheid” are offensive and wrong.

“One particularly pernicious and enduring canard that is surfacing again is that Israel pursues ‘apartheid’ policies,” Goldstone wrote in The New York Times in 2011. “It is an unfair and inaccurate slander against Israel, calculated to retard rather than advance peace negotiations.”

In a 2008 interview with Jeffrey Goldberg, then-Sen. Barack Obama shot down the notion that the word “apartheid” was acceptable in a discussion about Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians:

“There’s no doubt that Israel and the Palestinians have tough issues to work out to get to the goal of two states living side by side in peace and security, but injecting a term like apartheid into the discussion doesn’t advance that goal,” Obama said. “It’s emotionally loaded, historically inaccurate, and it’s not what I believe.”

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told The Daily Beast that Kerry was simply repeating his view, shared by others, that a two-state solution is the only way for Israel to remain a Jewish state in peace with the Palestinians.

“Secretary Kerry, like Justice Minister Livni, and previous Israeli Prime Ministers Olmert and Barak, was reiterating why there's no such thing as a one-state solution if you believe, as he does, in the principle of a Jewish State. He was talking about the kind of future Israel wants and the kind of future both Israelis and Palestinians would want to envision,” she said. “The only way to have two nations and two peoples living side by side in peace and security is through a two-state solution. And without a two-state solution, the level of prosperity and security the Israeli and Palestinian people deserve isn't possible.”

But leaders of pro-Israel organizations told The Daily Beast that Kerry’s reference to “apartheid” was appalling and inappropriately alarmist because of its racial connotations and historical context.

“While we’ve heard Secretary Kerry express his understandable fears about alternative prospects for Israel to a two-state deal and we understand the stakes involved in reaching that deal, the use of the word ‘apartheid’ is not helpful at all. It takes the discussion to an entirely different dimension,” said David Harris, executive director of the American Jewish Committee, an organization that has been supportive of Kerry’s peace process initiative. “In trying to make his point, Kerry reaches into diplomatic vocabulary to raise the stakes, but in doing so he invokes notions that have no place in the discussion.”

Kerry has used dire warnings twice in the past to paint a picture of doom for Israel if the current peace process fails. Last November, Kerry warned of a third intifada of Palestinian violence and increased isolation of Israel if the peace process failed. In March, Democrats and Republican alike criticized Kerry for suggesting that if peace talks fail, it would bolster the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

“It’s in the Palestinian playbook to tie Israel to these extreme notions of time being on the Palestinian side, that demographics are on the Palestinian side, and that Israel has to confront notions of the Jewishness of the state,” he said.

Kerry on Friday repeated his warning that a dissolution of the peace process might lead to more Palestinian violence. “People grow so frustrated with their lot in life that they begin to take other choices and go to dark places they’ve been before, which forces confrontation,” he said.

The secretary of state also implied, but did not say outright, that if the governments of Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu or Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas left power, there could be a change in the prospects for peace. If “there is a change of government or a change of heart,” Kerry said, “something will happen.”

Kerry criticized Israeli settlement construction as being unhelpful to the peace process and he also criticized Palestinian leaders for making statements that declined to recognize the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state.

“There is a fundamental confrontation and it is over settlements. Fourteen thousand new settlement units announced since we began negotiations. It’s very difficult for any leader to deal under that cloud,” Kerry said.

He acknowledged that the formal negotiating process that he initiated and led since last summer may soon stop. But he maintained that his efforts to push for a final settlement will continue in one form or another.

“The reports of the demise of the peace process have consistently been misunderstood and misreported. And even we are now getting to the moment of obvious confrontation and hiatus, but I would far from declare it dead,” Kerry said. “You would say this thing is going to hell in a hand basket, and who knows, it might at some point, but I don’t think it is right now, yet.”

Kerry gave both Israeli and Palestinian leaders credit for sticking with the peace process for this long. But he added that both sides were to blame for the current impasse in the talks; neither leader was ready to make the tough decisions necessary for achieving peace.

“There’s a period here where there needs to be some regrouping. I don’t think it’s unhealthy for both of them to have to stare over the abyss and understand where the real tensions are and what the real critical decisions are that have to be made,” he said. “Neither party is quite ready to make it at this point in time. That doesn’t mean they don’t have to make these decisions.”

Kerry said that he was considering, at some point, publicly laying out a comprehensive U.S. plan for a final agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, in a last ditch effort to forge a deal before the Obama administration leaves office in 2017.

“We have enough time to do any number of things, including the potential at some point in time that we will just put something out there. ‘Here it is folks. This is what it looks like. Take it or leave it,’” Kerry said." link

This letter, is from top Christian Leaders in the US to Congress...

"Fifteen religious leaders representing many major faith groups in the country, have written a letter to Congress seeking to make U.S. military aid to Israel contingent upon its government’s “compliance with applicable U.S. laws and policies.”

Signers of the letter include Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) General Assembly Stated Clerk Gradye Parsons.

The signers say they “have worked for decades to support both Israelis and Palestinians in their desire to live in peace and well-being” and “have witnessed the pain and suffering of Israelis as a result of Palestinian actions and of Palestinians as a result of Israeli actions.”

Though they recognize that both Israelis and Palestinians bear responsibility for the prolonged violence in the region, “unconditional U.S. military assistance to Israel has contributed to deteriorating conditions in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories which threaten to lead the region further away from the realization of a just peace. Furthermore, such aid sustains the conflict and undermines the long-term security interests of both Israelis and Palestinians.”

The signers urge an immediate investigation into possible violations by Israel of the U.S. Foreign Assistance Act and the U.S. Arms Export Control Act, which respectively prohibit assistance to any country which engages in a consistent pattern of human rights violations and limit the use of U.S. weapons to “internal security” or “legitimate self-defense.”

They urge Congress to hold hearings to examine Israel’s compliance, and request regular reporting on compliance and the withholding of military aid for non-compliance.

Thanks Rocky, I think that posting Miko Peled's video is very fitting here and suitable for this conversation, he speakes about Zionism and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and touches all the points that we all identify as defective, immoral, and in stark contrast to human rights. Of course, he does so in the frame of the allowable and non-risky range of the political- human rights arena and not exposing the one dominating force that rules our world.

In a way, I find that there is a parallelism between Miko Peled and Noam Chomsky, They both deal with the 'nitty gritty' of political life, U.S.A, Israel, Palestinians relations, the imbalance of power, injustice, the distorted vision of our leaders and the diseases of the government, an incredible and courageous and wise analysis which does not threaten the cabal's empire, and so the carousel continues to move around and the door of the cage is about to be closed. Such is also the keeping up with what happens in Russia, Ukraine and the U.S as is reflected in the public discourse, It's all mostly moving around the central nucleus of the inside game perspective and without an understanding of the main cause of the problem and the need to disconnect from it, sticking a nail in the wheels of the system and stopping it from moving. I remember the news medias making this guy out to be a real scumbag. And, fool that I was, I believed the medias. But just listen to him and see what he says after almost 8 years in prison.... He still believes what he did was right.

What annoys me about this issue at the moment is how the mainstream media are playing it as if there already is a war going on between the West and Russia. I hold the mainstream media just as accountable for war mongering as I do Obama, the EU and all of their cronies.

University of Ohio study:

85% of all American Major media is in the hands of, literally controlled by (they all share the same stories)... 6-7 people, 5 of which (and a 6th suspected) are ethically Jewish.

(I am of Jewish extraction, enough so to get to Israel as a 'Jew', so none of the anti-semitic crap can stick on me. The above is just a fact, nothing more.)

Those laws regulations and procedures were on the books to PREVENT this now existing situation from occurring, so that no small group could ever end up in a position to be controlling public opinion via total media control.

Bush Jr, in 2000, IIRC, tore apart the federal offices that would prevent such media consolidation from happening. In this case, infiltration and plants of nasty people put into the FTC, in order to drive out the long term civil servants who cared for America and it's freedoms and laws. Those departments heads he appointed brought in even more nasty people (while firing and driving out the real civil servants), people who are still there, still controlling those federal offices, and infecting them. Basically, nasty fascist neocon plants, who've spent the last 14 years burning down the public approx 71 federal departments of the USA federal government. And that's the least of it.

I even got corroboration from a deputy director of one of the biggest federal departments, that this is exactly what was done, in order to break the back of America. Not that the democratic party (hah!) was/is any better.

You are looking at a systematic plan that was enacted and held to, all the way down the line. A unilateral plan via all political (and other) avenues.

The question, is what are they doing now? As..what you are seeing now, is just a step, a stage, a marker, on an enforced and directed path and plan.

Nor did it begin with Bush Junior.

During Bush Junior's term, a lawyer for (at that time) the U.S. Department of Justice, Jesselyn Radack, co-authored the paper "PIERCING THE “HISTORICAL MISTS”…AND LOOKING TOWARD THE FUTURE" which described in the sort of detail only available to people who were there at the time, the destruction of the U.S. Department of Justice, during the Clinton administration (1993-2001), using similar techniques, including the suspicious deaths of key people who were getting in the way.

Jesselyn Radack has since left the U.S. government, and is now with the Government Accountability Project (whistleblower.org), where she has served as attorney for various whistle blowers, including Thomas Drake and Edward Snowden.

The destruction of the U.S. government (its subordination to some other authority than the informed will of the American people) is a project that has been on going for a long time. A key early step was obviously the passage of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, one dark and stormy night (actually, I don't know the weather, but surely it could have been none other.)

The first, with a tip-of-the-hat to ZeroHedge, is from WikiSpooks.com. It is a lecture by Andrei Fursov (Director of Russian Studies, Moscow University. Member of the International Academy of Sciences) dated 2014/04/14, that provides a "wide ranging analysis of the 2013-2014 situation in Ukraine, its antecedents and consequences from the perspective of a senior Russian academic".

The second is a documentary video of the war of 08-08-08, when Georgia invaded Ossetia, followed by Russia's defense of Ossetia in the following days. Contrary to the blame placed on Ossetia and Russia for this brief war (see for example the Georgian–Ossetian conflict (Wikipedia)), this documentary provides strong evidence that it was the Georgian government, working with the substantial support of NATO and turn-coat Ossetian leaders, who intended to slaughter the Ossetian people and claim the land for Georgia.

Jesselyn Radack has been a thorn in the side of the U.S. Dept. of Justice (DoJ) since at least the months following 9/11. In December of 2001, when she was employed at DoJ, she objected to their interrogation of 'American Talib' John Walker Lindh without a lawyer being present. Jesselyn Radack tells her story of these events in A Whistle-Blower's Inside View of the Homeland Security Nominee.
