Default Colorado farmer harvests first U.S. commercial hemp crop in 56 years

    Some good news.

    The most amazing plant!!

Colorado farmer harvests first U.S. commercial hemp crop in 56 years
    denverpost.com

Colorado farmer Ryan Loflin made history last weekend by harvesting the nation's first commercial hemp crop in 56 years.

Hemp advocates said Loflin's harvest is a landmark event that could one day lead to larger-scale domestic farming of hemp for industrial uses such as food additives, cosmetics and building materials.

Hemp is genetically related to marijuana but contains only trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive substance that gets marijuana users high.

Loflin's 55-acre crop in southeastern Colorado's Baca County won't yield large amounts of hemp-seed oil and other by-products but is "quite significant symbolically," said Tom Murphy, national outreach coordinator for advocacy group Vote Hemp.

The sale of hemp products in the U.S. reached an estimated $500 million last year, according to the Hemp Industries Association. Yet all of the hemp used for the products was imported because federal law prohibits its cultivation in the U.S. under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. The last known commercial crop was harvested in Wisconsin in 1957.

Colorado's passage of Amendment 64 paved the way for legal cultivation of hemp, but Loflin chose to plant his crop earlier this year before implementation of the state's hemp-growing regulations, which are scheduled to take effect next year.

Loflin used social media to line up about 45 volunteers to hand-harvest his crop on Saturday and Sunday. Use of a mechanical combine, he said, would have harmed the plants' stalks, which can be used in construction materials and for animal bedding.

Loflin said some of his hemp seed will be pressed for oil and subsequently purchased by Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps, a major user of hemp oil.

"We're very excited that Ryan has done this," said David Bronner, president of the company. "Ryan has kind of busted it open and taken this necessary step to make hemp a viable crop."

Good news. Maybe small farmers will soon have a chance at a crop Monsanto hasn't ruined yet. The farm bill never made it out of Congress before the government shut down. It passed the Senate but got stalled guess where - the House of Representatives.

Now they can "fine tune" it to eliminate certain subsides such as Michelle Bachmann ($250,000 farm subsidy), Chuck Grassley ($700,000 farm subsidy), Sam Brownback ($500,000 farm subsidy), and Stephen Fincher ($3,000,000 farm subsidy).

That is if anyone wants to be re-elected. A poll by the WSJ shows that 60% of Americans want the entire Congress fired.Let them scramble for good legislation that serves the people rather than lobbyist campaign contributions/bribes.

I thought Hemp and the Cannabis plant were the same thing
Botanically speaking they are the same plant. There are three species of cannabis, of which c. sativa is the least psychoactive. Just like apples and roses can be bred to display different colors and other characteristics, the same is true for hemp: it can be bred for fiber or for THC content (or both, for that matter). As an herbalist, I've played for years with the idea of the ten most useful plants of all time. Cannabis would certainly be in that list as it provides, fiber, food, medicine and relaxation.

    Good article here...published yesterday.

Here in California, Marijuana is pretty much legal. There is a large push to provide the CBD levels as well as the THC levels at the various dispensaries. Some of the newer strains are very low in THC and bred specifically for the medicinal properties.

One of the most famous is the strain Charlettes Web. Here is a video about Charlette and Zaki, they have had their lives changed dramatically by the medical use of marijuana. And no they do not get high. The strain has a very low THC level and is given orally.

I make cannabis oil to heal from many ailments. The first is the non Hodgkin's lymphoma that I was diagnosed with last year, also decreased my blood pressure, and takes away the hyperthyroid symptoms. I have also lost about 25 lbs of extra weight from the cannabis oil.

This is a document available for kindle, or to be read on slide share site that gives links to scientific articles that support the healing properties of cannabis for a huge number of conditions. It also explains the endocannabinoid system in the bodies of mammals that is the basis for the healing.

[QUOTE=Vitalux;648220]Here is an interesting experience I can share.

Many of you might be familiar with the disease called colitis and/or crohn's.

I have always suffered with this illness for aboout 40 years since I was was a teenager.

    Hi Vitalux,

There appear to be many ways in which to cure ailments / conditions of the Gut / Colon !

SCD / GAPS, cleansing / detoxing (myriad of techniques), fasting - really it's a case of trial and error too and of course weaning yourself off from any meds !

    Best Wishes,

    Default True History of Marijuana

I have, in my personal archives, more than one hundred documentary videos about Cannabis – both Industrial Hemp and Medical Marijuana – and about the history of the totally corrupt prohibition and the resurgence of both Industrial Hemp and Medical Marijuana, globally. The following documentary is one of the best I have seen because it covers all of these topics in detail.

Remember that Industrial Hemp is Cannabis that has very low THC content while Marijuana usually means Cannabis that has high THC content. At times the documentary blurs the differences because the words “hemp” and “marijuana” are used incorrectly several times.

There are over 2,000 documented varieties of Cannabis and less than 10% have high THC content.

Low THC Industrial Hemp contains everything except the psychoactive THC, therefore Industrial Hemp also has exceptionally high value for medicinal uses in addition to several thousand industrial uses. For example, CBD can virtually eliminate the pain and significantly reduce the swelling caused by Arthritis, within 3 days. And as the video explains, the most potent anti-cancer compound in hemp is not THC.

And Medical Marijuana can also be used for all of the industrial uses of hemp.

Industrial Hemp can be grown legally almost anywhere in Australia and in dozens of countries. Medical Marijuana can be grown legally in fewer countries - and ironically, in almost half of the states of USA, where the corrupt prohibition began.

    This video is highly recommended.

Cannabis is the plant of the planet IMO. I think it was brought here from another world along with many other types of foods/spices etc. If it wasn't I'm willing to bet it has been brought to other worlds from here. It is truly an amazing plant. When people realize how amazing these plants are, a global conspiracy becomes easier to see and more credible.
